How Can I Help My Wife Get Her Teeth Fixed?

Friday, May 20th, 2016
Q.

Dear Dr Moore, I was wondering if you could advise me on how my wife can become a guinea pig to help have her teeth fixed. 2 years ago my wife had to have many teeth out due to bad dentistry. She was fitted with a denture for top and bottom but had problems with ulcers, this was put down as being a bad fitting plate. My wife had a second lot done and still ends up being very sore and ulcerated, also they have affected her remaining teeth due to being ill fitting again. My wife has since been back to her NHS dentist, explained to them the issues she’s having only to be told yet more teeth may have to be removed and that she maybe allergic to the dentures and that if that the case there’s nothing more they can do. My wife is only 44 and very conscious of her mouth. We were always going for meals and nights out but now she makes excuses to hide herself away, she gets upset if she can’t eat a meal due to having no chewing teeth and her gums being too sore. I am on disability myself with my wife being my carer, my wife will do anything to meet my needs and I myself would love to be able to meet hers, I would love to see her smile a full smile again. I hope you can advise me, kind regards.

Could I Have All My Teeth Extracted and All On 4 Done on the Same Day?

Tuesday, September 16th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I have extremely bad teeth because of drug abuse and from never looking after them properly in the past. There are more fillings than there is enamel now, and I also have seven crowns. I am not in any pain or discomfort or anything like that and I have been looking after my mouth properly now that I am drug- and alcohol- free. Would it be possible for me to have all of my teeth extracted and get All On 4 done on the same day, or would I have to wait for the gums to heal before a dentist could start the All On 4? Thank you for your time, I hope you can answer my question.

Is There Any Temporary Filler Treatment I Can Administer at Home?

Thursday, September 4th, 2014
Q.

Good morning Dr Hughes. I am having my bottom four front teeth pulled in five weeks’ time, and at a later date I will be having them replaced by prostheses. In the meantime, there will be a pretty obvious gap there, and  I would prefer it to be temporarily disguised. Is there any material that could be put in the gap until my new teeth are ready, and would it be possible for me to do this myself at home? I cannot afford any appointments for temporary filler as the treatment I’m already having has cost quite a lot, but I will be going a month or two without these teeth. Is there any temporary material I can put in this space so I don’t look so toothless for a few months? Thanks you.

I May Need A Denture To Stop My Teeth From Moving. I’d Like Know If Dentists Offer Payment Plans To Spread The Costs?

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I would like to have my front teeth straightened they seem to have moved with age. I had them straightened in my thirties the normal way with the metal ones and had superb results, yet 20 years on they have moved and I’m very self-conscious of them. My problem is that I’ve had some teeth removed at the back due to no fault of my own so I think this has caused them to move. So I may need a denture or something to stop them moving in the future. I’m sure this will be very expensive so I’d like to know if there are payment plans available at all?

I Got Charged For Two Aveoplasties But I Can’t Remember Anything Of The Sort. What Should I Do?

Tuesday, July 15th, 2014
Q.

I recently had 7 teeth pulled in preparation for a lower denture. I received local anaesthesia only, I was wide awake, no gas either. I just got my bill and there was £600 on the bill for two aveoplasties. I think they made a billing mistake. Like I said I was wide awake and I contend there were no aveoplasties done. I even remember him saying after he pulled the last tooth, “Look at that, 7 teeth in 25 minutes, I think we just set a record”. Even though I was very numb wouldn’t I know and be able tell that a procedure like that or something other than a tooth being pulled was being done? Can an aveoplasty be done without sutures being required? Thank you very much in advance.

I Don’t Like To Wear My Hard Denture. Can You Tell Me If The Rubber Ones Are More Comfortable?

Friday, May 9th, 2014
Q.

Dear Andrew. I have had movement of one of my front teeth and the gum has receded back. It’s been like this for some time. The tooth itself is not loose but it has dropped down and is a bit twisted. For the past month I have had a bit of sensitive pain with it. I know it needs to come out but I’ve put it off as I already have one tooth missing. I have a hard denture which I dont like to wear as it covers the roof of my mouth and I don’t like the feel of it. I only wear it now and again as you can’t really tell. My problem is if I were to have the front tooth out I will need to wear a denture all the time and can’t stand the thought of a hard denture. My dentist has shown me a rubber type denture and I wondered if this might be the better option? Thanks.

I Have 9 Teeth Extracted. Would There Be Some Kind Of Payment Plan Available To Have Implants?

Friday, May 2nd, 2014
Q.

I am having surgery done this soon. I’m having all the back teeth have been removed. I only have 11 bottom teeth and have had root canal treatment on 6. I know eventually these will have to be taken out at some point. I have looked after my teeth but right from the age of 5. I was always having work done. I went into hospital at 21 and had an operation on my upper gum resulting to gum disease and this left me absolutely horrified with the result. More treatment was needed resulting to crowns which kept falling out. My last dentist left the practice and I felt let down as he helped build my confidence up but now I am really scared of the what might happen. The only option on NHS is a full denture plate. I am very nervous and worried about this as the feed back I’ve heard about dentures I would like to have implants instead. Would I be able to get them on some sort of payment plan?

Are There Any Clinics In The UK Which Offers BOST Treatment?

Friday, April 25th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. Are there any other clinics in the UK which offer the BOST treatment for periodontal disease?
Is there any data available on the effectiveness of the treatment?
How would I find out if there which clinics abroad offer BOST?
I have been diagnosed with severe and moderate localised periodontal disease and have had this for the past 20 years. I have recently lost 5 teeth in the past 5 years and there are some others which are being affected. I have quarterly hygiene appointments but the problem still progresses. I have had root planing before and have been advised to have it again. I look forward to your reply. Regards.

Most Of My Teeth Fell Out Through Smoking. Is There Any Way I Could Get The 4 In A Day Treatment Through The NHS?

Wednesday, April 9th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I used to smoke. I stopped around 7 years ago but most of my teeth have fallen out due to it. I went by my local NHS dentist and he extracted a few teeth, primarily the ones which had decayed. He suggested that I should try dentures, but I am really struggling with dentures and I cannot eat or talk with it. I have had them changed 4 times now. And now my back teeth are now falling out as well. Was looking into the 4 in a day procedure. Can my dentist recommend that on NHS?
If so, how do I go about it? I look forward to your reply. Thanks.

I Don’t Like My Top Partial Denture And I Would Like A Rough Estimate Of How Much A Bridge Costs?

Thursday, April 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. My problem is that I have a part denture at the moment, right hand side top, I think my dentist said they were, only one tooth was broken but my dentist took the two out, I didn’t realise at the time, because of the injection I couldn’t feel anything. I now have to wear this disgusting part denture and I hate it, it hurts the roof of my mouth. I would like to ask how much would it cost me to have a fixed bridge? And how long will it take to do? Thank you.
