After My Tooth Was Extracted I Suffered From Severe Pain Like Lightning Bolts. What Do You Think This Is?

Friday, August 8th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. I had a hole in my tooth and one day I got severe pain like lighting bolts. It came back 3 times. This pain is the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. I have had the tooth removed but I am scared it could be trigeminal neuralgia. The pain was so bad that I cried. I asked the dentist about this pain but I am not convinced they really understood the amount of pain I had suffered. I have not eaten anything really substantial for 3 weeks now and I am losing weight. I cant go anywhere on my own for fear of this pain. I had my tooth taken out and have not had it since. I am still not convinced it has gone though because it only happened 3 times in 4 weeks. What do you think this is? Thank you for helping in advance.

My Teeth Are Decaying And It Hurts To Speak. What Are My Options? Surely I Can Get Treatment Through The NHS?

Friday, August 8th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. I have 3 missing back teeth on my bottom jaw lower left 7 and 6 and lower right 6 with 7. It’s giving me agony as I speak. It has a big hole in it and I imagine it’s on its way, my lower left and right 5 also has decay. Eating is a nightmare as my bottom as I desperately need implants. I am only 30 years old and my teeth are ruined. Surely I can get treatment on the NHS or something? I really could not imagine spending another 30 years with no back teeth as its so horrible and uncomfortable it takes me ages to eat.  What are my options for this and is there any way I can afford treatment? Thank you for your reply.

I Have Problems Eating And Would Like To Know If I Could Get Braces Through The NHS At A Reduced Rate?

Friday, July 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I am 75 years old and chronically disabled. Do you know if it could be possible for me to have a brace fitted to enable me to eat properly and to correct a cross bite involving my front teeth. One tooth on the upper jaw and two teeth on the lower set injures my tongue and inner lips when I am eating (I have difficulty eating too as I have few molar teeth) and also when I am asleep? Would this be possible through the NHS or at a very reduced cost? Thank you for your reply in advance.

Do I Need Braces To Rectify My Jaw Alignment Problem Or Some Other Treatment?

Thursday, April 10th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I hope that you can give me a helpful answer to my problem. Recently, I noticed that my lower jaw set are slightly shifting and coming in front of my top teeth. It irritates me while I’m eating or even smiling. Do I need to have braces so that the problem can be rectified or is it my jaw that is moving and not the teeth? I’m really concerned about the problem as I want it to be fixed soon. Please make me aware of the rectifying method. Is that is it my jaw that is moving? Or is it my teeth? Can it be treated, right? Thank you for your time.

I’ve Had Radiotherapy As Treatment For Cancer And It’s Taken It’s Toll On My Teeth. Could I Get Cosmetic Treatment Through The NHS?

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I had radiotherapy treatment for cancer about 15 years ago around my mouth and throat area, I was told at the time that this would eventually cause problems with my teeth, they are now in a sorry state even though I have always cleaned twice a day, they just seem to be wearing away and breaking and are causing me great discomfort and stopping me from eating properly. Someone has mentioned to me that I should be able to get cosmetic surgery on the NHS because this has been caused by the cancer and treatment. Do you know if this is correct and who would I get in touch with about this?

My Tooth Has Gone And Broke In Two. My Dentist Wanted To Pull It. What Else Can Be Done That Is Relatively Inexpensive?

Monday, February 24th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I have a problem I would like help with. I have a tooth that gone and broke in two. My dentist was going to pull it, I said no thanks, is there something you can do? He did not pull it and it had decayed when this happened, instead of him pulling the whole tooth he fixed it to where it looks like a real tooth, but told me if I ever have problems with it he would have to pull it out completely. Is there a procedure that can be done without pulling it or getting an implant and it being inexpensive? I have an extreme sideways bite and I have fillings in every tooth almost and I have had them for over 20 years. Sometimes when I eat something they hurt, so what do I need to do?

My Husband Struggles To Eat Properly As His Dentures Don’t Stay Firm, Can He Have Implants To Solve This Problem?

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Patel, what I’d like to mention is about my husband who currently has no bottom teeth and a top denture, he had a bottom denture made but does not wear it as it does not stay firm when eating or talking. He has trouble eating a lot of foods, as he cannot chew it properly, eg: Salads, he cannot chew lettuce, most other foods he just sucks or mushes with his tongue, not very enjoyable for him. I have heard previously that you can get two screw in teeth and then a denture that will clip to these, hence no movement of bottom plate. Was wondering what cost would be involved and how long procedure would take? I really hope you can help us sort this out.

My Dentures Are Awful, What Advice Do You Have?

Friday, May 17th, 2013
Q.

I had to get top and bottom plates one year ago. I take bad with how false and ugly they are. I cannot bite into anything and have to cut everything up, even toast. I have lost loads of weight because of this. I cannot open my mouth to take a mouthful off a fork as my teeth fall down. They look like teeth shaped out of plastic, are all blended together and not one individual tooth. If I eat any thing even a biscuit my teeth are a mess with bits of food. I cannot eat in front of anybody because of this, therefore can never go out for a meal. I had bad teeth and made a desperate decision to get false sets. I am devastated and would be glad of any advice
Regards.

I work full time as a nurse but cannot afford veneers, what would you advise me to do?

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012
Q.

Hello there, I have been struggling with my teeth now for a number of years. I am depressed with my appearance, can’t physically eat with my two front teeth, and I am extremely conscious. I used to feel quite attractive, not any more. I work full time as a nurse, but simply cannot afford the veneers i’v always dreamed of. I’m hoping to get them some day, and I will never give up. It’s making me very unhappy. I love to smile, sing, and talk. All of these things are becoming a daily struggle. Would just appreciate some or any advice as to what I can do. I am at my wits end. Thank you for reading,
