I banged and cracked my front tooth when I was about 9. I have had a root filling in it since then. Over the years and especially more recently it has become quite dark and discoloured. I have been told that this is internal. My dentist suggested I had a composite veneer and gave me an idea of what it would look like. I was quite happy with the idea. This dentist then left and my new dentist said that a veneer might not be enough and that I should have internal bleaching and then a veneer. I have read that sometimes bleaching doesn’t work and also composite veneers only last a year or two. I do not have a lot of money but do want to improve the look of this tooth, but I would like advice as to what would be the best value for money long term.

                                Dear Dr Moore,
I had a crown put on one of my front teeth 6 years ago due to discolouration of the tooth after root canal treatment. Last few days, my tooth felt loose and I organised an emergency dentist appointment. After taking the crown off and looking at the xrays, there is a clear horizontal fracture line near where the tooth ‘stump’ meets the gum. The dentist strenghten the tooth with cement and put the crown back on as a temporary measure. She explained it might only last a couple of months before the tooth breaks completely. She offered me two options: a post crown or an implant. I was wondering which option do you think would be more appropriate in my situation? I am 24 years old and would like a long-lasting but safe option. I feel I would like to try the post crown first but was told that this might only last 10 years. Would having a post crown put in first make it more difficult to have an implant at a later stage?
Thank you

My teeth have never been really white but I’ve always been told I had a nice smile. I have veneers either side of my top two front teeth. I saw the dentist today and he said my teeth are an A2 and they are not brown and he did not think they needed whitening. Is A2 a white tooth. I just have a complex these days about my teeth as I feel I’ve lost a nice smile. Also, my daughter is disabled and I clean her teeth. They are clean but food seems to stick to them. What would you recommend I use as a toothpaste (she is 13). Thank you

Hi, I don’t really know where to start, but i’m extremely down about my teeth i’m 19 and just don’t know what to do, I feel the problems with them may be too big to sort. When I was younger I had to have root canal treatment on a front tooth, this left it very grey, I have since had a crown but they still don’t look right. Also, my bottom teeth became very rotten so i’ve had lots of work done on them, but they look awful as the white fillings I had are becoming discoloured. My teeth are far from straight, they all seem to be different colours. I just don’t understand it because i’ve always looked after them, but my dad had a lot of problems with his teeth & so has my mum. This is beginning to rule my life, I think about how hideous my teeth look 24/7. I saved up £400 to have this crown done which looks awful. I just don’t know where to turn, but at the age of 19 i’m not willing to live the rest of my life like this. So if you have an advice i’d be extremely grateful, i’m willing to save up any amount of money, no matter how long it takes. I also have pictures but not sure how to attach them on here. Thank you in advance.

Around 6 weeks ago I had a bad fall and damaged my front upper tooth. Since then I had a root canal as the nerve began to die and it has left the tooth severely discoloured. My dentist is reluctant to do anything for a few months as he wants to wait until the colour has stopped changing. I, on the other hand am desperate to get it fixed as I am very self conscious of it. My dentist has suggested that I have a veneer eventually, but is there anything I can do in the meatime to disguise it? Or should I just have the veneer now to save myself this heartache?
