Will home teeth whitening help to improve colour of discoloured teeth?

Monday, March 15th, 2010
Q.
My old Dentist always commented that I have very strong, healthy teeth. The problem is they are very discolored. I unfortunately do not have insurance right now, as I am a recent college graduate unable to find employment. I do attribute many of my unemployment issues to my truly horrendous teeth. After extensive web research, I believe my teeth are discolored due to a mild/moderate case of fluorosis. All of my teeth are the same yellow/brownish color expect for the top front two. The top half of these two teeth never change in appearance. The bottom half, at times, change from yellow/brownish to pure white/ Though, there is a thin discolored strip running down (vertically) one of the teeth. I believe these two teeth change in appearance due to “dry mouth” or dehydration. It is especially noticeable after a night out at the bar, where drinking too much alcohol would cause the dehydration. If you agree with my assessment thus far, my question should be rather simple. Do you think attempting at home whitening, with a product such as crest whitestrips, would cause further damage? i.e. make things looks worse…Or do you think attempting to use this product may help lighten my overall smile a few shades at least? I don’t want to have to get veneers, as i am in no financial position to afford them. I cant find a job without a better smile, or afford a better smile without a job. Quite the Catch 22 I’d say! Thanks for you time and expertise, Sir.,

What treatment can I have for discoloured teeth?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
Q.
Hi there,(Im 20) my teeth are really unsightly yellowly colour and kind of mottled stained looking. I’m not sure if this is due to flurosis (?) too much flouride or just bad dental hygiene from when I was younger and had braces. I regularly visit the dentist/hygienist every 6 months but they haven’t really mentioned anything about the colour and that my teeth are healthy and enamel is fine. Although I am a little embarrassed to mention it and what would I say!? Would cosmetic dentistry and what are the costs?? thanks,

Can NHS treat discoloured teeth at cheaper cost?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I am nearly 30 years old and had 6 veneers put on my front teeth 15 years ago by the NHS. The reason they put them on was due to my teeth being discoloured after being giving flouroide drops as a baby. They now badly need redone. I have looked into going private but at £500 per tooth would be unable to afford this. Do I have any chance of the NHS doing them at a cheaper cost considering it was them that put them on in the first place?,

Can venees treat crooked and discoloured teeth?

Monday, January 25th, 2010
Q.
My teeth are stained by tetracycline when I was a child. I also underwent Orthodontic treatment as a young adult and now my teeth are slowly returning to their original (crooked) position. And I have had an organ transplant which requires me to take immuno- suppressant medication. What treatment would help me with the first two problems. Would veneers be suitable considering the third?,

I can see dark coloured teeth through veneers. What can be done?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
when i was a child i self harmed my teeth in that i deliberately did not take care of them for a few years. This was due to pschological trauma. i took all the enamel off and the front teeth were about as yellows as you can get. this i ovbviously came to regret. recently i maged to get porcelain venners done, However the teeth that were the darkest yellow still appear to be a shade of yellow as if its showing through. Is ithis possible because i am very distressed. i had the top 8 teeth done one of the back of the 8 appears to show little bit of yellow on the top also,
