I Broke My Tooth Recently And I’ve Been Advised To Have A Bridge Or An Implant? Which Would You Advise?

Thursday, April 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi. I had broke my tooth a few days ago and went into my local NHS dentist and was told that the tooth is totally damaged, he could fill this with fillings but it won’t last very long and the other option is removal? I opted for the removal as this colour was totally discoloured from the filling and was ruptured as well.

I have been now advised to look at options of bridge or implant. Both teeth on either end of the missing tooth have a slight filling on them. What would you recommend I should do? I would appreciate your advice, could you also tell me what the cost implications would be for what you would recommend it. I was also told that I can have temporary dentures but will need to wait for at least 6 months till I decided which option to take as my bone needs to breath!

Is There Any Chance My Dentist Could Of Left Behind Some Silver Filling In My Tooth?

Thursday, January 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hi, I had a silver amalgam filling removed today as it made my tooth look totally grey and had it replaced with a white filling. However, there is a silver band around the top quarter of the tooth (although the rest of the tooth looks okay). Does this mean that the dentist may have left some if the old silver filling in and this is now showing through? The old filling was pretty deep so maybe the white filling isn’t deep enough? How can this be rectified? The dentist said it’s just my tooth but it looks like some silver has been left in. Any advice please?

I Notice That I Have A Stain That Has Developed Near My Filling. Why Is This?

Tuesday, December 10th, 2013
Q.

Hi Mark. I have a front tooth which already has a filling in it, but I have noticed where the filling is there appears to be a spot of some sort, like a brown stain on the tooth. Why is this? Does the filling have to come out and treated to be refilled. The filling has been in there for a few years but now I am worried that I might lose the tooth or the staining might spread. I would be most grateful for your help. I have no problems with other teeth but I would like to know why this has happened.

I Want To Know Whether Tooth Whitening Can Solve The Problem Of Internal Tooth Discolouration?

Thursday, October 17th, 2013
Q.

I’d like to know if teeth whitening can solve the problem of a tooth that has internal/inside teeth yellow discolouration which started showing after the removal of milk teeth? The yellow colour covers the whole teeth but later washed off on its own without treatment but leaving six teeth at the front with the yellow colour though not much on the teeth. The yellow colour is on four teeth at the upper region and two at the lower region. The four at the upper region is shared two to left side after the front teeth and two at right side after the second front teeth, while the two at the lower region is one to the left and another one to the right side (both incisors). I’d appreciate your advice.

Hi, I Think I Have Dental Fluorosis. What Treatment Options Would You Suggest?

Thursday, October 17th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I have started to notice what I think is dental fluorosis on my front two teeth. I have two dark lines appearing on my two front teeth and a little line on the tooth next to front tooth. I have looked into it online and wondered if you think teeth whitening is the best option first? I know another option is veneers but I am only 20 and think whitening might be a better option. I have got a dentist appointment but it is not for 2 weeks so just wanted some advice and a separate opinion when I ask my regular dentist.
Regards.

I Have Dental Fluorosis And Want To Know If I Am Eligible For Veneers Through The NHS.

Monday, October 14th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Shaffie, I have fluorosis so my teeth are patchy with white marks and some are a brown, yellow colour. When I was younger I was told that by the time I was 16 years old, I could get free help on the NHS but there has been no help to improve my teeth. Would I be a able to get veneers off the NHS as I can’t afford the whole amount to be done privately? It’s really making an impact on my social life and it’s about time I got help as I feel like I’ve suffered for long enough. Kind regards, any advice on this matter would be greatly received, I really hope you can help.

My New Crowns Are Discoloured, What Should I Do About This?

Tuesday, August 6th, 2013
Q.

I have recently had 9 of my crowns renewed by a cosmetic dentist. I love the shape however my front upper 4 are showing a grey blueish tint to them especially in darker light they look very grey. I have gone back to the dentist and they have agreed to change one which has particular blueish shading on the tooth. I was told that this was the post underneath showing through. Which I guess that with the other 3 it is probably the post colour underneath showing through giving a greyish look in certain light, I paid £500 per tooth. What is your advice? I was thinking about going for a second opinion?

Is My Dentist Offering Me The Correct Treatment For My Underbite?

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I have a underbite I think so when I smile I grin instead of smiling. I recently had a consultation with a dentist which was a bit rushed but he said veneers would be better than a brace as my teeth are also discoloured.

Is this common as I want the correct treatment not the correct treatment for his wallet. I’m going to see another dentist for a second opinion or would an orthodontist be a better option.

I want a nice top teeth smile.

Thanks, look forward to hearing from you soon.

Can I Get My Teeth Filed Down For Cosmetic Reasons?

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hi there,
Over the years my front two teeth have started to chip away..there are only a few small chips and I was wondering if it was possible to get them filed down? This doesn’t cause me pain at all, it’s purely for cosmetic purposes really so I am not in need of urgent surgery or anything. If it is possible to get them down how much would that cost roughly?

Also one of my canines is discoloured and the surface is not like the rest of my teeth. It’s bumpy and rough. I’m not too sure what had caused it but is there anything I could do to change the colour and smooth the tooth down?

I Have An Overbite, Discoloured Teeth And A Gap, Will The NHS Help Me With Procedure Costs?

Friday, March 1st, 2013
Q.

Hi, I have a large gap in my tooth from where a part of it has been knocked out, I also have quite a large over bite, and very discoloured teeth. I have always been affected ted by my teeth ever since I was young. It really knocks my confidence during everyday life and makes things difficult. Especially social occasions, for example; I won’t smile at people or for photos and I cover my mouth when I speak. I was wondering if porcelain veneers would sort these problems out and if so would I be able to claim them off the NHS as I’m a single mother of a 2 month year old baby and would not be able to afford them without the NHS’s help
