Q. hello there. I desperately need some help and advice. I have had a fear of dentists for the last 30 years (im now 40)as a result, I have not visited a dentist for that amount of time but plucked up the courage last year as my whole top set of teeth are rotten. The dentist i visited admitted my teeth would need removing but i dont know where i can find the money. My husband earns over the limit for working tax credits and because i am a full time nursing student, the tax credit service have taken my bursary into account making us not eligble for help even though with full rent, council tax, car finance and 4 children to feed we are struggling. I no longer smile, i try not to leave the house because im so embarrased an have even considered leaving my course because im finding it difficult to try and talk without opening my mouth due to the embarrassment my teeth are causing me. I am completely at the end of my tether with it all and my confidence has hit rock bottom. Please could you advise the cost of having all of my top teeth removed as none are salvedgable and dentures made. I just want to be normal again. Also, how would i go about making an appointment with a hospital dentist if needed? Many thanks for your time as I appreciate that you are busy.,

Of course you may have to be aware this will be a basic set of dentures, but it would be better then nothing. Option of being referred by your NHS dentist to a teaching hospital. I hope this helps and good luck.

A. Your other options are a bridge or implants. A bridge would normally entail drilling down adjacent teeth where an implant is independent from the adjacent teeth and stimulates the bone. It sounds like you would need a thorough examination and scan to decide whether you have enough bone for implants, if not you may need some bone rebuilding prior to the procedure.
Q. Hi there i have had top and bottom dentures since the age of 19 and am now 38. I have never had a set that actually fit properly. i recently lost a bit of weight and my dentures were too loose so i went to my dentist on the nhs and got a new set made which are unsuitable. She then made another set which are even worse ie bite feels all wrong, constant ulcers and sores on the bottom gum. She now says there is nothing else she can do for me. I cant even eat with the bottom set in. I am at my wits end and feel so frustrated. Do u have any ideas on where i can go next as i am constantly suffering. I really do hope you can advise me.,

A. The only other option availble to replace a full mouth of teeth are Implants. There are many different ways that this can be done in order to put teeth back in your mouth. Unfortunantly I am not specialised in this area and so I advise you see a Prosthodontist regarding your matter. Justin Glaister
