Can veneer be removed and replaced with better looking one?

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010
Q. I had bonding done 6 years ago on 2 chipped front teeth. Although it still looked good I decided to have it done again because there was some decay setting in. My dentist placed a veneer (unsure what kind) on another tooth next to the bonded one. I think he did it because it had a filling and the color didn’t match with the bonded ones. Unfortunately, I really don’t like the way it turned out. Can he remove the veneer from my normal tooth and how can he fix my smile after the work has already been done,
A. If your tooth has been prepared for the veneer, it would be possible for the dentist to remove the veneer and replace it with a new one. I would recommend that you discuss all the aspects of the existing veneer that you are unhappy with prior to treatment. You may also wish to request that the dentist has a diagnsotic wax up created. This would show you how the veneer could look, and give you the oportunity to discuss anything you are unhappy with prior to treatment. I hope this will help. kindest Regards. Dr Kailesh Solanki

My teeth look too white and unreal after getting veneers

Friday, February 26th, 2010
Q. After getting porcelain veneer in my whole mouth and in addition my bite was raised (expensive!), I’ve been told that my teeth look too white, I wanted white teeth but did not realize I would be so uncomfortable, and so self-conscious that I try to hide them and careful when I smile. As you may guess guess, I am unhappy. Can you tell me if there is anything that I can do or be done to tone down the too white and unreal looking veneers?,
A. You can’t change the colour of veneers however they do tend to dull down after 3-4 months. The discomfort is probably from the change to your bite this could be adjusted so go back to your dentist and ask him to take look.

What can be done to stop teeth from turning black?

Friday, February 26th, 2010
Q. Hi, one of my top front teeth started to show signs of discoloration & i when i went to the dentist he advised i had a root canal & a vaneer fitted. I have noticed that the tooth underneath the vaneer has started to turn black, is there anything i can do? Also i have noticed that the other tooth has now started to discolour like the other one did, is there anything i can do to stop this turning black as well? I have contemplated whitening but how will this affect if i have had a vaneer fitted?,
A. It is commen for a tooth to appear darker when the nerve is dying or has died. You may wish to consider replacing the veneer with a crown, as this will give much better coverage to disguise the colour change. In respect of the other tooth, I would recommend that you attend the dentist, to assess whether the nerve is dying, and to plan any necessary treatment. I wish you well with this. Kindest Regards. How can teeth that are out of line be treated?

Friday, February 26th, 2010
Q. Hi there, I have a big teeth comparing to my jaw, one of my front teeth stands out, it’s not inline with the others which am not comfortable with. My teeth length varies. Do you think I can sort out my teeth length problem by filing? How about considering a veneer for the front teeth? How much it will cost? would I need a veneer for the filed teeth? Many thanks,
A. The amount the appearance of a tooth can be changed by filing alone is limited, so if you desire a significant change I would recommend a veneer. The costs for filing would be from around £100 and the cost for a veneer would be between £500 – £650. I hope this will help.

Can I get Veneers on the NHS?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Q. Im 16 and have a gap inbetween my front two teeth.would veneers help this problem? and would i get it free on the NHS?,
A. You could have veneers but chances are this could make your front teeth look really big, orthodontics ( braces would be the best way) ask your dentist for a referral to your local orthodontist.

Would teeth look natural if I got veneers and whitening?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Q. Hello I am 56 years old and am about to start orthognathic treatment which will probably take 3 years. In addition to the orthodontic problems that require this treatment, I would also like to improve the look of my teeth, possibly through veneers and teeth whitening. Generally my teeth are looking a bit yellow but my two front upper teeth are particularly bad, in that the lower half of each tooth is much yellower that the upper half and the teeth are slightly ridged. Therefore my question is: If I had veneers on my two front upper teeth would the rest of my teeth be able to be whitened and would it all look natural? My orthodentist has said that any cosmetic work should really be done after the orthnographic procedure is complete. I hope,
A. Thanks for your enquiry, I would agree that it is benficial to wait until your Orthodontic treatment is complete before embarking on the cosmetic treatments. I would also recommend that once you get to this point, you should have the teeth whitening procedure carried out prior to the preperation for your veneers. This would allow the dentist to choose a shade for your veneers which would match the shade of your whitened teeth, hence acheiving the best possible aesthetic results. Kindest Regards. Are veneers a quick fix to have teeth straightened?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Q. Hi ive got a gap inbetween my two front teeth its quite large and i really hate it! i was offered braces when i was younger but didnt have them im now 19 and i want it sorted but i dont want braces i want a quicker fix ive been told veneers. I was just wonderin what is the best way to close this gap? and how much would veneers cost. Thanks,
A. Dental veneers can be used to close a gap between the two front teeth, and you should expect to pay between £450 & £650 per veneer. However there are restrictions as to how big a gap can be closed in this way. You may wish to consider a straightening product such as the Inman aligner that can acheive results over a period of between 6 & 16 weeks, which is much quicker than traditional Orthodontic treatments. Many Thanks. Dr Kailesh Solanki

Can I re-use veneers if I have teeth whitened?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Q. Hello I have had veneers on my teeth since the age of 16. I am now 34. I believe they have ruined my life and confidence. I belive they have been the cause of bad breath. I would like to remove them and get my theeth bleached/whitened. Is this possible and can i have my originals again? Thank you for your time.,
A. Unfortunately this is not possible as the veneers need to be cut off and the teeth underneath are probably shaped to allow the veneers to be originally fitted. New veneers are much better than 20 years ago and having your originals replaced hopefully will give you your life back

Can I have lumineers if I already have veneers?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
Q. I have porcelain veneers on the two front upper teeth, can I have lumineers?,
A. It depends, where you want to have lumineers? If you want to cover the existing veneers it is possible but it may be better to remove the original ones.

Can anything be done for tooth that has become discoloured?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
Q. I had a root canal done for one of my front tooth(8 years back)…though the tooth is intact and strong it has started discolouring. Is there any way I can get back the original color without using a crown..please advice..thanks!,
A. To determine the best way of improving the appearance of this tooth it is best to book an appointment with the dentist. In some cases teeth may be whitened internally (like maybe in your case where it is just one individual tooth) but whether this will be sucessful for your self would have to be determined by a dentist. Other ways of making the tooth appear whiter other than crowning maybe a veneer. Hope this helps. Dr K Solanki

What treatment can I have to get teeth straightened?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
Q. hi want to knw how kan i fix my teeeth?? my teeth r little n they r not streith…so wat kan i do in my kase?? i really need help!!!=[,
A. In answer to your question then i would advice to to book an appointment with a dentist to discuss options, the teeth can more often than not be straightened using a variety of orthodontic appliances and teeth may be made to appear larger through cosmetic treatment such as crown lengthening and venners/implants. To determine the best treatment for yourself this should be talked through with a dentist. Hope this is of some help to you. Dr K Solanki

What treatment other than braces can fix mis=aligned teeth?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Q. My two front teeth are badly mis-aligned or bucked, for the want of a better word. I visit the dentist regularly and always have a clean bill of health. I would like to have a better smile to improve my self- esteem. What best course of action could I take without using a brace.,
A. It may be possible to veneer the two teeth to bring them into line, although there would be limitation to how far this would allow your teeth to move. I appreciate you may not wish to wear traditional braces for a couple of years, but there are many other straightening options now available. For example there is the Inman aligner which can acheive results in as little as six weeks, and Invislaign which is a series of clear aligners which are virtually invisble. I would recommend that you attend a cosmetic dental practice for a free initial consultation, as they would be abe to discuss all these options with you, including the veneers. kindest Regards. What is the difference between veneers and lumineers?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Q. hi, whats the difference between veneers and laminates? where exactly its used n which has better outcome,
A. I do not do lumineers, the good side to them is that you don’t need to remove any tooth structure when preparing them, the bad side is is that they make the teeth look unnaturally bulky, also they are very thin and have a high tendency to break/crack. Therefore Veneers have a better outcome, which is the reason why I do them :) Justin Glaister

Is tooth pain because of lack of calcium – what can be done?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Q. Dear Dr. Patel, I have just discovered that the right front teeth has a scrarch exactely in the middle the teeth from the gum to the a 3 quarter. I have been told its because of the lack of calcium in my teeth. But im quite worried because sometimes I feel a little pain in the teeth specially while/ after exercising. please advice.,
A. You need to get the tooth examined if you have had pain, if the cosmetic appearance bothers you you can have the defected bit covered over with a white filling or porcelain veneer.

What to do about filling that is turning yellow?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Q. Hi m front tooth recentl broke and I got a filling done but it looks like it is going yellow on the filling part. I am 20 years old and not sure what I should do about it. Is there anthing I can do about it something lasting that I do not have to worry about it falling out or going yellow? Thank you for helping,
A. I would recommend that you return to yur dentist to discuss your concerns with them. As the filling has discoloured so quickly, they may be willing to replace this for you. As for a more long term solution, you may wish to consider having the tooth veneered. A veneer could be designed to enhance your smile and look very natural. I hope this helps. Regards. Would bonding or veneers or a filling help with chipped tooth?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Q. Hi, Can you please advise – is dental bonding the same as a ‘filling’? I have a chipped front tooth and have had it filled by my dentist somewhere around 10 times over the last two years – it keeps falling out. due the dentis ‘chipping’ away at the tooth each time this chip has now become much much larger – resulting in a big gap between my teeth (i feel as though half of my tooth has gone) I have also looked at veneers but am put off due to the fact i think it would be far more noticeable against my other front tooth. could you please advise on this also. Many thanks,
A. If a filling or bonding comes off this easily then a more permanent replacement would be advised. A veneer might work well but could be difficult to match, you could consider 2 veneers to make the match easier or go to the technician and ask him to take the shade, this will cost more but would be worth the extra cost.

Is there any treatment to correct enamel loss caused by eating lemons?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Q. Dr. I have a serious issue that I think needs immediate attention. For years I have had the unfortunate addiction to eating lemons and limes with salt. Now I notice my top front teeth appear to be deteriorating from the bottom up. Can this process be curtailed or completely stopped?,
A. If you stop eating acidic foods then it will stop, you may need treatment to correct the loss of enamel such as fillings, veneers or crowns
