Friday, November 20th, 2009

Q. Hi, I am looking to have my teeth whitened, however my teeth are stained caused by tetracycline. Can you tell me if bleaching will work? or if there are any other alternatives available, please note, I do not want to have vaneers.

A. The whitening will work but might take several months to complete.

Your advice to fix the problems going on in my mouth?

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Q. I have a lot of problems going on in my mouth. First off I have a gap becaue I am missing my two teeth on either side next to my canine. My canine’s have moved in the place where those two teeth should have been. Apperently I was not born with them. Near my canine tooth is my old baby canine tooth that never fell whch is loose on the left side. Then on my bottom right I had a tooth removed because it was cracked. What is your advice to fix my teeth?

A. A combination of veneers and implants works well for this type of treatment. If you would like me to take a look for you please call the practice on 01245 268 494

Relatively large front teeth needs treatment

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Q. i have two large front teeth and absolutely detest them. its giving me really low self esteem and i would really like to do something about them. What are my options and honestly how much will this kind of treatment cost? My two front teeth are longer than my “wedding finger nail” (short) just to give you a rough idea. im getting increasingly depressed about it what can i do?

A. The cost depends on what you have done. If they need veneers this will  normally cost from around £500 per tooth. If the teeth need removal then you could be looking at £500 for a small denture or £4000 for fixed implant supported crowns.

Crooked teeth needs veneers are there any other options?

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Q. Hi Kailesh I was wondering what you can do for people with croked teeth, ar veneers still an option. My 2 front teeth ar slightly further foward than the ones either side? I look forward to hearing from you.

A.

Hi
Many thanks for your question. There are usually several options for correcting tooth position and alignment. Veneers are an option especially if you are also unhappy with the shape and colour of the teeth, however this treatment usually involves removing a small amount of healthy tooth. Other options include  6 month smiles, inman aligner, and invisalign. these would all reposition the teeth but not change the shape or colour.
I hope this helps

My gums have receded to the extent would lumineers be the way forward?

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Q. I have 15 year old veneers on 8 teeth and my gums have receded to the extent that the old scraped down teeth is now visible behind the veneers and is ugly and extremely sensitive. Unfortunately I had one replaced by my dentist last year and it looks even worse, he had to shave half of it away so I could close my teeth, not a great job, and I am terrified of the dentist!! Would lumineers be the way forward for me, and how expensive are they? Thank you :)

A. Lumineers are a type of very thin veneer more suitable for people who have never had treatment on their front teeth so I don’t know if they would be the best option for you. It sounds like you just need the veneers all replaced with good quality veneers made using an experienced dentist and technician.

Is root canal required before having a crown in my case

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Q. i asked my doctor to give me a nice smile or correct spaced teeth in the front of my mouth and he is giving me a crown and root canal on the damaged tooth first, but what about the other teeth in the front they are still spaced will i need a root canal on the other teeth in order to get them unspaced and looking nice?

A. It is difficult for me to say without seeing you, all I would say is that you don’t always need root canal before  crown or veneer is fitted

Tongue thrust is causing my front teeth to separate

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Q. Hi There, I have a tongue thrust, and it is causing my two front teeth to separate in an upside down V. This is concerning to me because I wore braces for 4 years (about 7 years ago) and did speech therapy to re-train my tongue. I have a night guard that I wear although not regularly because it is uncomfortable, despite that it is in rest that the pushing occurs. Would veneers be a viable option to correct this cosmetically, while continuing to wear a guard at night?

A. Yes veneers might help but you’ll need a new reatiner to stop them moving

What are the treatments for removing and replacing a tooth?

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Q. I have 2 front fang teeth at the front left and right my question is can they be removed and replace somehow

A. Thanks for your question, if it is the appearance of these teeth that you dislike, you may wish to consider veneers. This would not involve removing the teeth, but using a veneer would allow you to change the shape and aesthetic apperance of the tooth, to create a more uniform smile. Alternatively, if there are clinical reasons to warant loosing the teeth, you could have implants placed to fill the gaps. I hope this helps.
Kind regards

Heard veneers are expensive so want to know more about dental bonding

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Q. Hi i have a gap between my to front teeth and i really dislike it alot and was woundering what the best aproach is? ive heard of dentail bonding and was woundering what are your thoughts on that? ive always wanted the top teeth made into veneers to get a perfect smile but it costs to much so thats why i was woundering about bonding and how much roughly would it cost?

A. Thanks for your questions, Dental bonding could be an option, depending on the size of the gap you are trying to close. I would expect you to pay no more than £300 for the two teeth. Your other options would be veneers, which I would expect to cost between £400 – £600 per tooth, or teeth straightening for which I currwently have treatments available from £999. There are many practices now, who are able to offer monthly payments schemes such as interest free credit to help you spread the costs of treatment. I hope this helps.

Low self confidence due to gum issue causing bad teeth

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Q. I am very worried about a friend of mine who is very unhappy about her teeth. She has had severe gum disease and has lost some teeth and although the gum disease has now gone her gums and teeth are not in a good way. She can not afford the cosmetic dentistry that she needs and this is now impacting on her life. She has become very self conscious and has lost a lot of her self confidence. Is there any funding available to help her?

A. Thanks for your questions, I would suggest that you encourage your friend to arrange an appointment at her local NHS practice. The pricing structure for NHS treatment is fixed, and even free, depending on the patients personal circumstances. The dentist would be able to advise your friend of how to improve her smile with as little financial output as possible. Many Thanks

Cost to fix uneven teeth and also to whiten them?

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Q. I am 46 year old and have alway hated my uneven teeth. I hate having my photo taken and I have wanted to have vaneers on them for years. I think that i need at least eight and teeth whitening to make them look better. Can you tell me how much this procedure would cost. Thank you

A. It depends

on how crooked your teeth I often carry out some short term straightening of your teeth first and would then place veneers as this minimises the removal of your natural teeth.  You need to find a good cosmetic dentist and have an assessment.

Rebonding and teeth whitening was not done as expected

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Q. I very recently attempted at a local dentists office to have my canine tooth (which had bonding on it) re-bonded. I wanted it to be a solid color and shaped appropriately without harming my gum. The dentist was highly unsuccessful. The bonding looks varigated (two colors) and was either too large (looked like a dog tooth) and now too small/short. Question: should it not be simple to mix a color to match the tooth and not be varigated? Also, I had one hour whitening done and it didn’t really whiten my teeth very well. It has been less than two weeks and what whitening occurred is going away quickly. I asked if I had enough enamel for the treatment (I am 51) and did not get a reply. Any suggestions on how to get my teeth very white and a my canine to match? I do take good care of my teeth, brush, floss, etc daily FYI. Thank you!

A.

Start with sudy casts of your teeth then modify the cast to the shape that you want balanced with potential conflicts in the Occlusion / bite. Then veneer the teeth with an opaque ( normally Porcelain) Veneer. AN assesment is needed to find out if a single veneer or the visible smile (?? 8 teeth) is needed.
