Can I Get Dental Bonding on the NHS?

Thursday, August 4th, 2016
Q.

Hello, it has been around 3-4 years since I had my braces removed. During the time I had braces, one of my front teeth had chipped slightly, however, despite this being visibly apparent to both my regular dentist and orthodontist, nothing was done about it. Now over the past few months, this tooth seems to have chipped even more. My question is, since I am under 18 and in full time education, can this tooth be bonded for free under the NHS? And also, would this then affect my retainers if my tooth is able to be bonded?

Can I Have Dental Work Done at a Dentistry School?

Tuesday, April 26th, 2016
Q.

Dear Dr Andrew Moore,

I am 26 years of age and moved from Scotland to London to try and better my life. I struggle with depression and anxiety which doesn’t help this matter.

I don’t have or make a lot of money and am trying to save in London. It’s impossible. The problem is, my UL3 has no root and is a black tooth which was covered with an NHS veneer, which has now split and come off. My UL1, UL2, UR1, UR2 have been extracted and replaced with a denture (along with UL4 UR4 AND UR6) which doesn’t fit. So I can’t eat with it in. My UR3 is the only tooth that hasn’t had any work done to it, this also includes both my wisdom teeth UR7 and UL7. The rest of my upper teeth have either root canal or really big fillings and you can hardly see any tooth.

This has caused me to loose weight due the fear of my teeth breaking when I eat and I have stopped socialising with people and have missed days at work also. I’m left with no confidence whatsoever! The worst thing about it is, I have always taken care of my teeth and flossed, brushed and used mouthwash but the decay is so bad! I lack calcium, always have. I gave my mum pyorrhoea of the mouth while I was in the womb.

I can no longer live like this and it’s so expensive to correct and I don’t want a denture for my whole upper mouth. I have heard of many people going to dental schools to get the work done for free. I’m lost and don’t have any clue of what my options are. All I have done is cry all day and not left the house.

Is there any advice or help you can offer me?

Warmest regards,

Thursday, August 13th, 2015
Q.

Hi my four front teeth were pushed sideways and back in a fall 3 weeks ago and the 2 front teeth are broken. The dentist at hospital pushed them back as best he could and braced them but they are very painful and not in the right place.I am really concerned about them and would like them removed and a partial or bridge fitted. I am 57 years old and this has affected me more than I thought. I am registered with a local private practice.

How Long Do Dental Implants Take to Fit?

Thursday, July 23rd, 2015
Q.

Hi. I have a bridge/crown on the my front three teeth which I have had for at least 20 years. It is now feeling very weak and is going to fail at any time. I was wondering if dental implants would be an option, and if so how long would they take to fit (do you need weeks for the implants to settle?) and I’m conscious that I would be left with a gap. Do you have any idea of the rough costs? I know it’s a little vague but just thought that I would ask the question before booking an an initial assessment. Many thanks.

Should I Go to a Dentist or a GP with My Dental Issue?

Thursday, May 21st, 2015
Q.

I am 55 and over the past 5 years I have noticed my underbite getting worse! I had a glucose test, it was negative. I need surgery on it. I am getting pain in my jaw,and it’s popping all the time. It gives me headaches .I am very self conscious about it too! It affects my eating and speaking . Should I go back to my dentist for another referral? Or should I go to a GP? I’m getting desperate! My bottom teeth are way in front of my top teeth,

How Much Would it Cost to Have a Full Set of Top Teeth Placed?

Tuesday, March 17th, 2015
Q.

Hi. I’m 26 years old and a mum of 3. I need some help. I have 6 teeth missing on top and as it stands now, the ones that are left are all broken. My front tooth is snapped in 3 places and just hanging by the root. It moves every time I eat, talk, drink and even when I’m coughing. I hate it so much, I just want it to end. I am scared of dentists, my dentist has messed up so much. I feel so down and depressed because of it. I am always in pain and nothing helps. I am on painkillers all the time, I hate it. I can’t eat or talk properly. I don’t even like talking to people. How much would it cost to have a full set of teeth on top?

How Can I Fix My Overbite?

Monday, March 2nd, 2015
Q.

Hi,

I have a question. I’m very insecure about my teeth because when I smile my gums show so much, and I had braces but still have a huge overbite. I feel like having braces didn’t make much of a difference. When I smile I feel like I am going to bite someone because my overbite so big. And having so much gum exposure doesn’t help. I also feel my two front teeth are kind of big as well. I just to know if there is anything that can be changed or if there’s just nothing I can do about my smile?

Thank you.

What Advice Can You Offer About Gingivectomy?

Friday, January 23rd, 2015
Q.

Good morning Dr Hughes. I would like some advice on Gingivectomy, as I would like to have this procedure done but have no idea where to go for this?

I am almost 30 and from since I can remember I have been embarrassed about my gummy smile.  My teeth are nice and straight but very small and when I smile wide all you can see is gums, or so I think.

I would just like some advice as to if this is safe and where to go, plus how much this generally costs.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards.

I’ve Recently Had A Bridge Cemented, But After A Couple Of Days Now, I Don’t Feel I Can Get Used To It. Is It Too Late?

Thursday, October 3rd, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I’ve recently had a bridge made for the front four of my top teeth. I had it permanently cemented in place two days ago and after having a couple of days to look at it and get used to it, I’m really not happy with it. The shape is really not what I wanted and it looks crooked in my mouth. The bridge also feels bulky in my mouth and I feel that my bite is now not correct.
Can I now have it removed and altered, or is it too late?
I’m afraid to call and tell my dentist and that he says nothing can be done now. Please help me with this problem!!! Many thanks.
