Q. hello i wanted to know if i could get finance for my cosmetic work done , but i am on state benefits at the moment would a dentist practice approve me or is it on the basis of you having a job thank you very much
A. Dental practices usually offer finance options through outside finance companies. These companies require all the same credit checks as applying for a credit car or loan.

Q. hi, to get right to the point, my teeth are in a terrible state, and i am quite concious about my front two, especially when i smile. i really cant afford thousands of pounds and was wondering if there was any way of applying to be a ‘guinea pig’ for dental students? or am i doomed to put up with it or pay? kind regards
A. Hi You could try a local dental hospital but treatment is very limited. Its worth a try but the chances are you’ll need to pay for cosmetic treatment at a private practice

Q. HELLO SIR IM FROM PAKISTAN AND DOING MY fsc i wana apply in BDS but i am very very poor pls advise me that which univeristy is good for me.thanks
A. hi
no matter which option you take in the uk you will find it expensive,
my advice would be to apply to other european union countries where the fees will be cheaper and accomplish a degree there and this will be recognised in the uk.
your other option is to come to the uk with a dental degree from pakistan and then do the conversion exams

Q. Hi, can i ask a question. I am 14 years old and i want to become a dentist when i grow up can you please tell me what qualifications i need. I need to do well in school get A*, A , or B’s right. i am aiming to get A*’s in my tests. Hope to hear from you soon.
A. I hope you will be aiming for A *’s the better you do the more options you will always have. You will need to do your A levels after this and study chemistry + biology, maths or physics. I wish you all the best and hope you get there.

Q. dear DR. Komal, my question is related to my career. I apologize to bother you but i need a little guidance. Can you please tell me if cosmetic surgery and orthodontics mean the same and what catergory of dentistry has got more scope in today’s life? Thank you so much.
A. They are completely different. It really depends on what you enjoy and whether you are prepared to undergo the extensive training it takes in both these areas. There is a lot more to cosmetic and restorative dentistry than meets the eye and you would have to invest a great deal of time and money to get the proper training. Orthodontics is a 3 year postgraduate tyraining course and very difficult to get into. Either way you would have to be very dedicated. I guess there is less competition once you are a qualified orthodontist whereas in cosmetic dentistry any dentist can call themselves a cosmetic dentist even if they do not have the relevant training
Kind regards

Q. hello doctor, tis is to bring to your notice that i have done my bds from bombay having 6 months experience .i am interested in doing implantology course.i have heard that germany is a good place to learn.please guide me sir thanking you
A. Hi
There are various good courses around the world.
I would strongly recommend the misch courses in USA, which gives great education in relation to surgical and prosthetics. Also I hear that UCLA provide very good courses also.
Unfortunately I am unaware of any courses in Germany.

Q. Hi, hope you can help…. My daughter is 10 yrs old and has teeth missing from her adult set, x rays show they are just not there. The missing teeth are two incisors and one canine on the top row. What are the best options available to give her a complete smile, both short and long term?
A. the best option would be for an orthodontist to straighten the teeth but leave the gaps for the missing teeth and then for your daughter to wear a denture till the age of around 18. then place dental implants into the gap areas are to restore these with crowns. hope this is helpful.

Q. hi just wanted to say firstly that your really pretty for a dentist. i’m a 15 year old boy in high school my question is that i would like to know what subjects are needed to further a carrer in dentistry because i’m realy interested in it i would also like to know what the required courses are and your opinion on the best universities to study preferably your’s but basically the best thank you.
A. Hi G, Thanks for the compliment and the question.
Biology and chemistry are definitely required and then third can be any subject. It doesn’t necessarily have to be another science, it is best to double check on the UCAS forms though. Universities are looking for diversity amongst their applicants. I studied biology, chemistry and physics at A- level. I think that the grades needed now are A A B, but some universities may vary. I went to Leeds, which is a fantastic school but Newcastle, Birmingham, Sheffield, Bristol are all very good Universities. If you fancy London then there is Guys Hospital Dental School. It is hard work but its all worth it in the end.
Good Luck with all your endevours
Kind Regards
Dr Komal Suri
