There are black spots on my teeth should I be concerned?

Q. Hi, It was a few years ago i noticed black dots on my teeth, i’ve since been to the dentist every 6 months apart from in the last year. She has always said there is nothing to worry about, but now i havent been to see the dentist in a while i have noticed they are gradually getting larger and on one of my teeth there is a second smaller black dot(the black dots are situated on the back two teeth on the bottom on either side, 4 in total)I have a phobia of any dental surgery. I had 2 teeth removed when i was 8/9yo under gas because of it and have was wondering is this decay also if it is are there any treatment which i would be put tosleep for the procedure?

A. It is very likely that the black dot is just stain in the pits an fissures of the teeth. Ask your dentist to x-ray them that way you will be able to tell if the dots are decay or just stain. You could have them filled if needed with sedation although the fillings will probably be very small.

I very ashamed of my teeth what can I do to fix it

Q. my teeth are in a terrible state after lifetime of other health problems. ive tried my best to look after them but the amount of medication as well as constant vomiting have weakened them. i spent so much time in hospital that the last thing wanted to do when ok was visit dentist. now i really need to get to a dentist and want to but im so ashamed-what can i do?

A. Hi

Please dont be ashamed. We see a variety of problems, more extreme then your case. The most important thing to do is to visit a dentist to have a full mouth examination. This would allow the dentist to outline your options.

My teeth needs fillings could I go to nhs?

Q. hello my teeth were knocked out after a bike accident when i was 13 they are also crumbling how can i get my yellow and black teeth fixed i have no confidence im 28 there discusting the 2 front ones now they are all black at the front well 3 and 4 lower teeth and need loads of fillings as well i scared of the dentist could i go on nhs pls 4 treetment its destrying my life

A. I guess you need to find an NHS dentist who might be able to treat you perhaps with sedation to help you over your phobia and to get your front teeth crowned or filled

I hv phobia of being sick due to plate can you help me?

Q. i have a tiny plate with some teeth on it made for me i can only put them in for a short time as they make me heave. i have had them for three months.the trouble is i have a phobia of being sick so the feeling is unbarable can you help me please. thank you.

A. You should think about dental implants or bridgework as fixed teeth work better in you situation

Im a very nervous patient how can I get my crooked tooth fixed advice?

What can be done to make my teeth healthier?

Q. Hi, I was wondering if there is anything that can be done to make your teeth healthier if they are not as healthy as they should be? I know the normal flossing, brushing, healthy eating and mouthwash but can i be doing anything more? I am terrified of dentists and have recently been for a checkup after about 10 years of not going. My teeth are not too bad, i have been told but i have a wisdom tooth that needs to come out( which has just broken on me). I have also had a filling fall out a few years ago but due to my fear did not get it sorted out but now the dentist says that the gum has grown up though the whole. My dentist says that it has to be removed but when i went for the xrays the dentist at the hospital said that i could have a rootcanal instead which would save the tooth. Apart from the gum thing the tooth is healthy and the roots and centre of the tooth are absolutely fine. How will a root canal help the gum issue? Thank you for taking the time to reply.

A. The best thing you can do for your teeth is to brush and floss twice a day and see a dentist and hygienist every 6 months.

Is its necessary to undergo grafting before implanting dentures?

Q. Dear Sir, I’ve been “selected” for a procedure that I am not familiar with and want to find out more information…I have been waiting for approval though a county dental facility to have the rods or implants for witch the denture can be attached to…My oral surgeon called and said that while I wait for the OK for those rods/ implants..He would like to perform something..I am not sure of the exact label for the surgery..it involves Lowering the floor of my mouth..? and building up mandibular area..they want to take a skin graft from my buttocks and use it as a graft for my mouth..They want to do this because my lower jaw was without a denture for 8 years..not that I didn’t have one but got poor dentistry at the time and it did not fit and cut me badly..result..stopped using lower denture to my detriment. Does any of this sound familiar to you..I am 56 years old and in fairly good health in spite of wheel chair status…part of the reason I am in a wheel chair and lost my teeth was because eight years ago I was misdiagnosed as having end stage breast cancer to the bone…I didn’t though but was placed in a Morphine induced comatose state for a year..till they figured out their mistake and withdrew the medications…however I lost most of my teeth..then when I woke up I had to have the rest of them removed…I need some direction here..I am scared to go under anesthesia for 2 hours! In addition I need to know the possible side effects for such a procedure. He said it would be that long…scares me when you consider all of the medical mistakes I have endured in one life time…maybe I am over thinking this..but I need to do research..But don’t no where to turn..he did say this procedure was a common one before implants…what is he talking about..I will have further instruction next week when I go in but want to be educated enough when I go to ask the right questions..Can you please direct me to some educational material..I would appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

A. I am not familiar with this exact procedure but graftings are often done. In my practice we use block grafts for large procedures. Speak to your dentist so they can put you at ease.

I am scared of dentist how can i find a dentist who can help me

Q. hi i urgently need treatment but cannot find an nhs doctor for miles. i have 2 abcesses at the min and am in extreme pain, my partner smashed my mouth in years ago and i havent been to dentist since im so scared. even tried tranquilisers. how do i go bout finding a dentist which will help me.

A. i advise you book in with a private dentist if you do not have an NHS dentist close by. If you are worried about cost maybe research into the different dental insurance options available.

Nervous to have dental implants treatment on jaw

A. I suggest you book an appointment with an implantologist for a full treatment plan and quote.

Ive a huge phobia of needles can ive treatment under general aneastetic

Q. I have a huge phobia of needles and because of it have very bad teeth, i have had to have 10 removed under general aneastetic (gas induction because of my phobia) and have had an abcess that spread to my sinus and apparently almost killed me. Because of this I was wondering whether it is possible to have a full clearance under general aneastetic with a gas induction and how much this could cost me?
