I am not currently at a dentist but what should I do if I need more treatment?

Q. hi.im a 35year old guy from wales who suffers a lot with dental pain due 2 chipped or broken teeth. i have had a lot of work carried out & removed most of my back top & bottom teeth which i have a denture for them. the major problem i have is my front top teeth have been a breaking & chipping away which leads to have it filled etc i dont have a dentist at the moment so if any futher damage i have to go to a emergency dentist & get pushed from pillar to post trying to find a dentist. im currently unemployed at the moment & in recipt of benefits so i dont know what realy can be done? i am willing to travel to any dentist that will take me on as a patient! any advice would be most gratefull, hope to hear from you soon..,

Hi Thanks for your questions, I would recommend that you contact your local Primary Care Trust, you will be able to either, put you in touch with your nearest NHS dentist who are taking on new patients, or put you on a waiting list for this. They should also be able to advise you of qwhere to go in a dental emergency. After my wisdom teeth were removed I had facial pain

Q. In May of this year I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at the age of 37. I knew there would be risks but I wasn’t prepared for what I would go through. Shortly after surgery I noticed that the right side of my face had changed a little, it was a little sunken in more than the other side. I went back to my oral maxillofacial specialist to make sure that my new xrays didn’t show any deviations. After 1 hour of waiting for the new xrays I was told there were no devations. I’ve had MRI’s done, a CT Scan, and currently I am on Short Term Disability for a military curvature in my neck. The MRI’s and CT’s came back normal. I thought that this was all due to the military neck but am not so sure anymore since my facial difference is even more apparent now. It is now December and I am at a loss now. I want to see another Oral Maxillofacial specialist but am scared because of what happened to me with the other. The symptoms I got in the beginning were facial pain only on the right affected side. I got some nausea, and a radiating pain in the back of my ear, on the same side of course. I am scared and don’t know what to do. I also get neck pain, and this is what led me to the chiropractors. Thanks in advance for your answer.,

A. hi this is obviously a tricky situation as one of the warnings before surgery is a warning of nerve damage which can lead to the nerve pain you are describing there can also be upto a yrs wait for full healing in that area with regards to facial asymmetry.it wouldnt hurt to see another surgeon for an opinion

I keep experiencing a sharp pain in my second molar

Q. I keep experiencing a sharp pain in my second molar whenever I jump, walk briskly or shake my head from side. The pain is not noticable when I’m still or if I don’t make any sudden movements – nor does the pain last long when I feel it. What could be the cause? I’ve had a cold for the last week, could this have anything to do with the ache that I’ve only recently be suffering?

Experiencing shocking pain from the broken tooth sealed in my gum.

Q. Five years ago i did a extraction on my upper jaw tooth,the tooth broke during the procedure and is now seal in my gum.i seldom experience shocking pain in my right jaw,is some serious happening?

A. You may have an infection on the root. Go to your dentist and ask him to take a look.

Tooth filling causing lot of pain

Q. I had a route filling 4 wks ago last wk he finaly sealed it up then a wk later really bad pain cannot discribe but real agony so i taken amolxilin powder form and ibrofin too. if i had a route filling and sealed it what is the problem now i dont understand at all please give me advive am due baxk on thursday.

A. Unfortunately i cannot give a diagnosis without examining the mouth. I am sure your dentist will be able to offer some sound advice after he/she examines the tooth.

Should TMJD be treated?

Q. Hi i have just been diagonsed to have TMJD im not sure i want treatment wot happens if i refuse ???

A. If you have pain then it may get worse so you’ll need to speak to your dentist to find out the pros and cons of treatment

Could nightguard be possibly causing pain in my gum?

Q. I have been trying to wear a nightguard /splint. But it’s causing me pain especially on one side where I have a bridge. In the morning it seems like the pain is in the gum under/behind the bridge area. It’s like one side feels alright but this side isn’t. I was hoping maybe you could shed some light on why this might be happening. Your thoughts on this are much appreciated. Thank you.

A. I guess the splint is either rubbing on the gum or causing pressure on the bridge. pop back to your dentist and ask him to adjust it

My bottom teeth have slight curve Is braces needed?

Q. Hi my teeth are generally straight at the top however at the bottom there is a slight curve, is this natural. The curve is towards the center of the mouth. are draces needed thankyou

Can I have implants done on payment plan?

Hi my name is michelle and im 26 years old i have had problems with my teeth sice i was a baby they just kept rotting and the dentist didnt no why or how to control it after years of pain i had to have most of them removed and i now only have 7 teeth left and none at the top this is very upsettin for me i have trieda denture but ust can not have it in my mouth do basicly the dentist said there is nothing more they can do im at a loss and have lost all my confidence and can not smile can you help me plase is there sanywhere i can get implaints done on payment plan and how much would it all cost ? im aware i can not have it done on the nhs?

Hi michelle, there are many practices including mine which offer payment plans interest free and low interest. the cost for fixed teeth per arch to replace a denture ranges from about £10000, to £15000. the best thing would be to book a free consultation think about how much you could afford monthly and we will discuss the right plan of action for your budget. hope this is helpful.

Is there a private dentist to treat our son who has abscess?

Q. Hi, our son has special needs (learning difficulties etc). We have seen the community dentist who wants to give him G.A and remove all his teeth that have cavities/ gone bad. We’ re not happy with this- we feel any tooth that can be filled should be!! We’re wondering if there’s a private dentist that would treat our son, and keep as many teeth as poss!! He’s waited 6 months already for an appt to have a bad tooth removed that we know has had an abcess on it!! Please help!!

Hi many thanks for your email, the issue is how cooperative your son is while having dental treatment and what age he is. other options are sedation for treatment but he does need to be a minimum age of 16. hope this is helpful. i would be happy to assess your son and give you some more options that are available in the private sector.
