Q. i had a route filling 4 wks ago last wk he finaly sealed it up then a wk later really bad pain cannot discribe but real agony so i taken amolxilin powder form and ibrofin too. if i had a route filling and sealed it what is the problem now i dont understand at all please give me advive am due baxk on thursday.
A. Unfortunately i cannot give a diagnosis without examining the mouth. I am sure your dentist will be able to offer some sound advice after he/she examines the tooth.

Q. I have been trying to wear a nightguard /splint. But it’s causing me pain especially on one side where I have a bridge. In the morning it seems like the pain is in the gum under/behind the bridge area. It’s like one side feels alright but this side isn’t. I was hoping maybe you could shed some light on why this might be happening. Your thoughts on this are much appreciated. Thank you.
A. I guess the splint is either rubbing on the gum or causing pressure on the bridge. pop back to your dentist and ask him to adjust it

Q. hi my teeth are generally straight at the top however at the bottom there is a slight curve, is this natural. The curve is towards the center of the mouth. are draces needed thankyou

Q. hi my name is michelle and im 26 years old i have had problems with my teeth sice i was a baby they just kept rotting and the dentist didnt no why or how to control it after years of pain i had to have most of them removed and i now only have 7 teeth left and none at the top this is very upsettin for me i have trieda denture but ust can not have it in my mouth do basicly the dentist said there is nothing more they can do im at a loss and have lost all my confidence and can not smile can you help me plase is there sanywhere i can get implaints done on payment plan and how much would it all cost ? im aware i can not have it done on the nhs?
A. hi michelle, there are many practices including mine which offer payment plans interest free and low interest. the cost for fixed teeth per arch to replace a denture ranges from about £10000, to £15000. the best thing would be to book a free consultation think about how much you could afford monthly and we will discuss the right plan of action for your budget. hope this is helpful.

Q. Hi, our son has special needs (learning difficulties etc). We have seen the community dentist who wants to give him G.A and remove all his teeth that have cavities/ gone bad. We’ re not happy with this- we feel any tooth that can be filled should be!! We’re wondering if there’s a private dentist that would treat our son, and keep as many teeth as poss!! He’s waited 6 months already for an appt to have a bad tooth removed that we know has had an abcess on it!! Please help!!
A. hi many thanks for your email, the issue is how cooperative your son is while having dental treatment and what age he is. other options are sedation for treatment but he does need to be a minimum age of 16. hope this is helpful. i would be happy to assess your son and give you some more options that are available in the private sector.

Q. i want to know if NHS will suport me in my circumstances.I start a full muoth restauration at private dentist last yaer but cant aford anymore.MY SITUATION CHANGE i M on long term incapacity benefit,have HC2 certificate.Basicaly i have manage to put six implants on my upper jaw and still have four teeths left who requier crawns.do you thik Nhs will help to finish upper part because I need six abutments.I can’t eat properly ,I lost alots off weights ,i have constantly pain.I have the implants one year ago

Q. I have a temporary on a tooth. It has been in for about 2 weeks. Just recently my gum in front of the temporary is really hurting and is bothering me above the tooth and in between the tooth. What should I do? I have flossed and no food is coming out? Could it be that I have cut the gum with my floss?
A. It does sound like a gum problem, get your dentist to check it out next week

Q. Hi, I have just found out that my top right rear molar, is dying as a result of a deep filling, which is now beging to rest on the nerve of the tooth. The dentist has shown me the x-ray and said that as the root is so bent and not easily identifiable, he does not believe a root canal would be sucsessful. I have also had a bad expererience of root canal’s, where within months I had absess, and lost the tooth anyway. My dentist has said that my only option really is therefore too losse the tooth. My concern with this is that due to braces and overcrowding I had already had all my wisdom teeth removed and to loose this back tooth, I run the risk of my jaw bone disolving, there is already evidence of this on the x-ray following the wisdom extraction 3 years ago. I asked if there was any other options and he told me I would need splints and a crown which would cost about £2000. I am only 31 and worry that if I don’t make the right choice now it will be too late, I can’t afford £2000 for a tooth, but as it stands a booked for an extraction the week before xmas??!! Reading some of your other responses to questions indicate the crown can be placed over the tooth, can this not always be done? Any advise would be great. Thanks
A. hi many thanks for your enquiry, my advice would be to ask to be referred to an endodontist for a second opinion. THere are many teeth which general dentists just do not have the skill to treat. however an endodontist is highly experianced at root canal treatment and can give you an idea of whether they feel it can be treated and level of sucess. once the root canal treatment is done it is then best to crown the tooth.

Q. My front tooth has been having alot of pain and just the other day my tooth has been feelin lose, i went to a dentist and he said that i need a root canal? is that the reason why my tooth has been feelin lose because i need a root canal ? Also i have had a root canal on the other side of the same tooth (left side), now i need one on my right side!
A. The abscess underneath your tooth can loosen your tooth due to swelling around the tooth. Following root treatment this should disappear and the tooth firm up

Q. i have soreness in my mouth especially at the tip of my tongue, and i have pain in the roots of my teeth ,sometimes it feels like its all up my face. and i have a sticky white salava coming off my teeth or tongue, been to dentist and they keep saying there is nothing wrong but yet i have all this pain , have you any idea what it could be.
A. I would recommend tha tyou ask your dentist to refer you to an oral surgeon as their may be other causes rather than obvious dental problems.

Q. my mother has just (on friday) had the rest of her upper teeth extracted after the front 6 were bridged ten years ago and unfortunately came loose a few months ago. Her dentist has provided her with dentures that are very lifelike but unbearable for her to live with. Dentures are not an option in her mind at present with her being a young 57 year old. We are exploring the avenue of implants and possibly implants with a bridge. how soon will this be able to be completed? We understand there are healing processes from the initial extraction and the implant procedure…but can you give us some kind of idea. thank you. kind regards.
A. hi, many thanks for your email, generally 8 – 10 weeks after the extractions is enough time for the healing to take place before dental implants are placed, the minimum number of implants to support the front six teeth would be 3, once the implants are placed there is usally again a waiting time of around 12 weeks before the final bridge can be placed. the price of such a treatment would cost around £6000 – £8000 dependant on where you went for your treatment. hope this is helpful.

Q. I had cosmetic dentistry done many years ago, which included replacing my middle four front teeth (top) with crowns. One was knocked loose and subsquently I have had it removed as it was apparently so small that there was nothing for crown to hold on to. I am now using a temp denture, however a couple of things I would appreciate your advice on: 1) is there any alternative to temp denture, only I find it very painful after a while, and it looks very ugly with a thick pink plastic rim around the tooth, that does not match my gum and looks very prominent. 2) I have been diagnosed with gum disease around these crowns, and am desperately trying to work on this, but is teh denture now causing irritation to gums, as they not getting any better (p.s. gum disease appears to be around teh crowns only) I am very depressed about this situation and would give anything to be able to smile again, Many Thanks
A. Hi
Thanks for your message, you mention that you are desperately trying to work on the gum disease. Forgive me if you are already doing any of the things I suggest, but I would recommend that you attend your dentist for their advise on your gum disease. Following on from this, as well as advsie on how you can try to improve things yourself, I would recommend that you attend regular appointments with your dental hygienist.
There are other options available instead of your temporary denture, firstly there is the option of having a permanent denture made. When you have a permanent denture made, it will take 4 – 5 weeks, and the end result should be a vast improvement in both appearance and comfort from the temporary one. If this is not something you wish to consider then you may be interested in a bridge. This would involve preparing the teeth on either side and fitting a bridge ( this would have attachments for the teeth either side and a false tooth for the gap) and fitting the brdige to them. Finally you would have the option of an implant. This would not involve any preperation on your other teeth, as the implant is placed into your bone, and after a healing period, a crown that then be placed.

Q. my two top front teeth are chipped and i am concerned they will chip even more is it possible to repair them, will i have to go private and hoe much roughly will it cost, as i am having trouble finding an nhs dentist.

If you decided to go down the private route then after your examination your dentist can inform you on the costs involved in repairing this.

Q. Hello!:)… I am 28 years old and my wisdom teeth are growing in especially on the bottom right and it is very painfull, what can I do for the pain?
A. Book in to see your dentist to make sure they are not infected and are growning through alright. In the meantime make sure you are keeping the area very clean.

Q. i visited my dentist with painful wisdom teeth back in july. he referred me to hospital specialist. i have been given an appointment on 21 sep.since then i have been suffering with constant severe pain . i have visited dental emergency but still kept on telling i have to wait for my appointment time.surely should i be suffering with this pain for the next three week.please give suggestion
A. It is very difficult to cure the pain without strong painkillers and antibiotics, unfortunately you have to wait for your hospital appointment, you may be able to phone the hospital to see if they can treat you sooner.
