Can I have dental implants and in the meantime, will dentures work?

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011
Q.

I want my teeth pulled to get special dentures that look real, like a couple of crooked teeth. Not the small teeth that look like dentures. My Insurance is very good. My back bottom teeth have been missing for about 10 years, will the free dentures in the mean time help me to eat or will it hurt, as my partials did, whilst I lived in England. I am on vacation this week as I have moved to Lebanon,

Can you explain why I might not be a candidate for dental implants?

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011
Q.

Hi I have had a front tooth (crowned) removed after having suffered an abcess. My NHS dentist was unable to perform root canal treatment due to there being virtually no root left and he had to remove the tooth. I have been advised that the only treatment left for me is a bridge (after approx 6 months of wearing a denture) which I understand would involve crowning healthy teeth either side. I cannot bear the denture I have been fitted with. Can you tell me why he would not mention dental implants as an alternative
Thanks

Would it be a wise approach to have implant treatment from a dentist as part of his diploma course?

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011
Q.

I am considering dental implants (c 4 or 5) and my dentist has advised he could do it as part of his diploma course if I was accepted as a case study although he says he has carried out implants before

Is this a wise approach/how can I establish the credentiasls/experience of my dentist?

Your advice is much appreciated

How soon after tooth extraction do I need to have implants to save bone density?

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Julian,

I had tooth extraction today which was a process of just five minutes and later I was left in pain and severe bleeding and was not prescribed anything and had gone home and taken two Paracetamol’s. I just want to know as to how soon do I need to have implants done in order to save my bone density and tissues. I am 32 years old and have been gifted in the past with good teeth but due to neglecting my teeth and having too many sugary drinks, one of my tooth decayed and as a result I have had to have it taken off today.
Will this loss of my tooth effect my other teeth as well?? Please let me know as I am very confused about what I should do next and how soon.

My epileptic son has missing teeth and a damaged bridge, what solutions are there for this?

Friday, February 11th, 2011
Q.

My 36yr old son has (controlled) epilepsy. He has petit mal seizures daily but thankfully no grand mals for several years. While having a seizure he knocked out his front teeth and he was given a bridge now the teeth holding the bridge are falling out and he has a broken tooth within the bridge. He can;t seem to get any help from his dentist or the NHS.the cost of going private is prohibitive. He is extremely self conscious of smiling and embarresed in his work at a school. It doesn’t seem fair that if he had had a car accident there would be help but epilepsy doesn;t count. Can you please suggest a way forward?

What are my options for replacing missing and damaged teeth?

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

As a boy of around 9 years old I managed to knock out tooth 9 in a cycling accident. Both 8 & 10 were also damaged and ended up being root filled. I wore a plate to the age of 18 but since then I have been wearing a Maryland bridge which has worked well. Over the years the bridge has come out a few times and 8 & 10 have become quite discoloured; also I think the Maryland is starting to loosen again.

My question is what is the best way forward for me from here?

1) Carry on as is – not sure if 8 & 10 can be cleaned in some way?

2) A bridge – I am worried about its longevity & weather the neighbouring teeth, which are root filled, are up to supporting it via crowns.

3) Go for an implant at 9 with single crowns at 8 & 10 – assuming it is viable.

4) Something I havent thought of?

I guess what I am looking for is an unbiased opinion of the right way forward. Any advice you can give to help me make the best decision would be much appreciated.
