Is it possible to have lost enamel replaced?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Q. my teeth are in really bad condition and i have lost most of my top set along the sides through grinding in my sleep.im struggling to chew properly and have been using the two front ones for most of it.now the enamel on my front two teeth has started to break down and im worried these two are going are going to snap now.is there a way to replace the enamel with something else or will i need to dentures or implants?im 33 and dont even smile now because its noticable.i only ask about replacing the enamel as money is extremely tight at the moment and the cost of dentures or implants is totally beyond me yet i still dont qualify for nhs dentistry.any suggestions you have would be extremely appreciated.many thanks,
A. It is very difficult to give you any options without seeing you in person regarding this matter. Usually there are underlining issues when it comes to teeth chipping and this needs to be addressed. I would be more than happy to see you for a consultation. Justin Glaister w

What are the benefits of implants?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Q. what are the benefits of implants which are available to replace missing teeth?,
A. Firstly, they function like a normal tooth. Secondly, as long as you keep your gums surrounding the implant clean, then it should last anywhere between 25 – 30 years (average). They are the latest in Dentistry when it comes to replacing teeth. Justin Glaister

Would getting artificial bone help with stability of teeth?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Q. Hello I had teeth taken out in error by a dentist when I was 12 years old. The top two wisdom teeth were never there. I fractured one molar ice skating so now I have no upper molars on the left hand side of the jaw. I am aware that there is little bone. Could you please let me know of the advantages of own versus artificial bone especially in terms of endurance and stability, I play a lot of sports including skiing etc where falls are possible. Do you have patients who have had artificial bone more than 5 years ago and how is the bone and implant fairing. Many thanks I have been wanting to go ahead and have the implants for a while and would welcome the advice.,
A. Your own bone is considered the gold standard but involves a separate procedure to harvest the bone. It often needs supplementing with artificial bone as well anyway. Artificial bone has shown to be successful in many cases over a 20 year period it has been used

How long does implant treatment take and recovery time?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
Q. How long does an implant take? And how long does the recovery take?,
A. The actual process of having the implant placed, should take around one hour. The implant will usually then be allowed to integrate for a period of a couple of months before being restored with a crown. During the integration period, your dentist should be able to make you a temporary denture to fill the gap. I hope this helps. Kindest Regards. Dr Kailesh Solanki.

Can I have all teeth removed and replaced with implants?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
Q. hi i really want and need all my teeth removing as they are in a terrible state due to many reasons, is this possible and will a dentist do this? also i would like in there place dental implants. do you have any idea how long this whole procedure would take, and any suggestions and ideas of the price? also i do have gun disease, and i really want to get rid of it fast but it is bad, any suggestions? any help at all would be extremelly grateful many thanks :],
A. If you are losing teeth due to your gum problem then you need to see a periodontist for many visits to get on top of your gum disease. Losing teeth is the worst thing that can happen in dentistry and no dentist likes to pull out teeth. Also if you have gum disease then the chances of having implants are pretty slim. We have a fantastic Periodontist who works with us who will be able to help you Dr Federico Tinti ph: 0207 612 9810Justin Glaister

What treatment can I have to get teeth straightened?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
Q. hi want to knw how kan i fix my teeeth?? my teeth r little n they r not streith…so wat kan i do in my kase?? i really need help!!!=[,
A. In answer to your question then i would advice to to book an appointment with a dentist to discuss options, the teeth can more often than not be straightened using a variety of orthodontic appliances and teeth may be made to appear larger through cosmetic treatment such as crown lengthening and venners/implants. To determine the best treatment for yourself this should be talked through with a dentist. Hope this is of some help to you. Dr K Solanki

What materials are dental implants composed of?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Q. I am extremely hypersensitive and my quetion concerns the material of the implant, titanium, which you mention is iron/carbon — what are the proportions of the two materials, would i be able to request of a dentist a particular proportion, and do you know of any sideeffects for very sensitive patients having a titanium single tooth implant? My second question is my adjacent tooth has moved slightly, would I need to have some sort of realignment prior to having an implant? Thanks,
A. Allergy to titanium (there is no carbon or iron) is very very rare as the material is the most bio-compatible material available for medical use, If the gap is small then the adjacent tooth will need moving prior to placing the implant. Thanks

All teeth are broken so what treatment is best?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010
Q. I have Broken ALL my teeth and have realy bad tooth pains evry month. I would like to know what your recomendations are and what treatments are available because I think all my teeth are beyond repair and I am quite woried because I do not have alot of money and would like to know the cost of treatment.,
A. I can’t really tell how bad they are but you might be looking at either fillings and crowns or extraction of the bad teeth and replacement with dentures, bridges or implants. You need to see a dentist as soon as possible you may also qualify for NHS treatment if money is tight.

Can I get implants done on NHS to replace uncomfortable dentures?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010
Q. I have recently recieved dentures to fill the gaps in missing teeth but these are causing problems. They are uncomfortable to the point of painful and impair my speech. Although I have most of my front teeth left it is hard to chew food properly. As I have colitus it puts my digestive system under more pressure to digest the semi-chewed food. Because I am unemployed I am wondering if it is possible to implants done on the nhs. I would be greatful for your reply.,
A. To be honest I have no idea whether you can get NHS implants. I would try calling any NHS practicce and asking them, hopefully they may be able to help you.Justin Glaister

What treatment can I have to replace old looking bridge?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010
Q. Hello Dr Glaister, I have had the same bridge on my bottom front teeth for about 15 years (It’s a Maryland bridge). When I had it done it was the best thing ever and improved my confidence but now it’s really looking dated and too obvious. What I was wondering is, do you have to change a bridge after a few years? Also I would like to have this bridge removed and placed with some thing more up to date because I know cosmetic dentistry has come a long way in the last 15 years! Would dental implants be best? What would you suggest? This has bothered me for many years but I have done nothing about it but this summer I have my sisters wedding coming up and would really like to do something finally.,
A. Bridges have improved alot in the last 15 years. If that is how long it’s been since you’ve had the bridge placed then it is very normal to need to replace them after 10 -15 years. Implants are a newer option and they do act more like a natural tooth, the only problem there is that in order to have implants placed you do require a good amount of bone in that area. You will need a consultation regarding this.Justin Glaister

Can i have my implants and dentures fitted in one day?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010
Q. Hello is it possible that I can have my implants and dentures all fitted on the same day?,
A. Yes it is possible we treat a lot of patients that have what we call immediate load implants but every patient is different and we would need to assess your mouth and medical history before letting you know if this was a possibility for you.

I hope this helps

Would I be eligible for help with costs of implants?

Friday, February 19th, 2010
Q. hi i only got 5 top teeth yet i only have 3 missing from the bottom. i have never had my top teeth and have gaps between the ones i do have. would i be eligible for help with costs towards implants as im having great difficulty with eating. in the past an nhs dentist supplied me with a set of false teeth on a plate however i have never been able to tolerate it in my mouth as it makes me sick, and spit when i talk.,
A. I’m afraid implants are not available on the NHS, your best option might be to spread the cost over 12-24 months with a payment plan.
