What would I expect to pay for a high-quality crown?

Q. Hi Dr Bohara I am 59 years of age and have had a crown on one of my front teeth since I fell when I was 11 yrs old and broke the tooth. I have had a couple of crowns since that time. Unfortunately now at my age my teeth are becoming quite yellow and my other front tooth is becoming transparent and working its way up the tooth. They do not match any longer and I wonder if it would be possible to have both teeth crowned and the cost of this. Obviously I want a good result end the best possible crowns that wil last. If you could advise. I live in S Yorks but would travel if necessary.,

A. Hi The cost of high quality crowns start from £550 per tooth. There are different types of crowns which could be indicated i.e metal ceramic, empress, procera, etc. The quality of the crown also depends on the dentist aswell as the artistic abilities of the technician. Are crowns an option to improve damaged teeth?

Q. hi im 16 my teeth are in a very bad state and fillings everywhere i dont smile nomore because of this what can i do to sort that out and are crowns a thing i should think about,

A. Either crowns or veneers depending on how damaged your teeth are – if possible hold off until you are 18 as your teeth may not be stable at 16

How can I see what crowns will look like before treatment?

Q. Im think of having cosmetic crowns on my 4 front teeth as they have worn down a lot – how can i see what it will look like before i have the treatment,

A. The best way is for your dentist to take impressions of your mouth and to create a mock up of the crowns in wax on a model of your teeth. Alternatively he could use White filling to build up the teeth to create a similar mock up in your mouth so you can see what things look like

What are my options for badly discoloured tooth?

Q. i had the nerve removed from a tooth about ten years ago it has now started to very badly discolour and pieces are flaking off. what are my choices for replacement will i be able to have a crown if the tooth is dead,

A. Yes it sounds like acrown or veneer will be a good option You need to find out if the root is strong enough first

What is the difference between NHS and private dentist crowns?

Q. Hi. My dentist has just suggested that I have my six bottom front teeth crowned as I have weakened tooth enamel and there appearance isn’t very good. Not suprisingly this occured after I filled in a survey saying that I was not happy with my teeth. He suggests going private as I would get better crowns but the rest of my teeth are not great and I don’t want them to stick out. I also want all my teeth to look whiter. Is there really such a difference between private and nhs crowns? My dentist says that I can only have two nhs crowns a year, is that true?,

With what system can I get best tooth whitening results?

Q. can you tell me if i can get a better result in teeth whitening from laser or the kit my dentist is giving me also how long do you need to wear the home kit to achieve best result.,

A. The result varies from system to system & patient to patient. In general you can get similar results with a lot of systems if you have time. I prefer tray whitening when 1. the patient wants to match to existing crowns or veneers, 2. patient is worried about going too white before they have the chance to stop. 3. its often cheaper 4. its easier to manage tooth sensitivity I prefer power whitening such as Zoom! when 1. the patient has a deadline ( eg family wedding next week) 2. patient cant sleep with trays in 3. patient uncomfortable administering their own kit I prefer hybrid systems like “enlighten” when the patient wants the maximum result in the minimum time and is prepared to pay a little more. Can I keep posts in place for 3 individual caps?

Q. I would like my 4 front post crowns which are built in a bloc replaced by 4 individual caps. Does the dentist have to replace the posts as well? Many thanks for your answer.,

A. No they can often use the existing posts depending on the condition of the posts and the roots anchoring them in place.

I still have pain after many dental treatments so what can be done?

A. It depends on the type of pain and what the cause is, you need to go and see your dentist and explain the problems and find the required solutions, it is very difficult for me to give you advice without seeing you.

Is there any treatment to correct enamel loss caused by eating lemons?

Q. Dr. I have a serious issue that I think needs immediate attention. For years I have had the unfortunate addiction to eating lemons and limes with salt. Now I notice my top front teeth appear to be deteriorating from the bottom up. Can this process be curtailed or completely stopped?,

A. If you stop eating acidic foods then it will stop, you may need treatment to correct the loss of enamel such as fillings, veneers or crowns

Will NHS replace worn crowns?
