Could I get an onlay instead of a crown?

Friday, March 18th, 2011
Q.

I have been told by my dentist that I will need a crown on one of my lower molars. This is due to cracking of the white filling I had over the top of the molar and down one side next to another tooth. It seems if I have this done privately it will cost me £500 (not pure gold crown though). Can I not have an onlay instead (she didnt mention this possibility) and would it be cheaper than a crown. I am 69 yrs of age.

I am unhappy with my new crowns, what can I do?

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011
Q.

Is it normal practice for a dentist not to give you a colour choice of new caps or to show you the shape, I have paid 5K upfront and I am so unhappy with both the shape and the colour.
When the temps were fitted (nearly 4 months ago) they were a brilliant white, at my second fitting (3 months later) more temps fitted a nice white this time and such a perfect shape.
I have had only 4 perms fitted on the front and I am so unhappy compared to the temps they look dull and yellow grey,. the front 2 are too long and 1 has such a bump on the back I cant bite together with my back teeth. When I have my mouth very slightly open I look like a rodent oh and they have black lines on the top. Surley this is not normal I have paid 5K upfront I feel so stupid I have an appointment in another 2 weeks time what can i do,

What are my best options for closing a gap in my teeth?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011
Q.

i have a meduim size gap between my front 2 teeth an i am looking into getting this closed. one of my teeth is porceleen. i have no root in the tooth so it was attached with a metal bar (not too sure the medical way to explain it) i want to know if i can get veneers as i understand these have to put onto your teeth. i want the top 4 teeth veneered. also my ‘fake’ tooth was done badly as its well bigger an hangs lower than my other tooth, because it was done wrong do you think there is anyway the nhs will help towards the cost of my treatment. any info will be great. thank you 🙂

My recently fitted crown is uncomfortable, what can I do?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011
Q.

I have recently had a crown fitted, it feels much too big and my lip keeps rubbing on it.My dentist said I will get used to it but it sticks out further than my own teeth. How easy is it to have a crown removed and would the tooth underneath be pulled out?

I have a metallic taste in my mouth, what could be the cause of this?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011
Q.

I have had a metallic taste on the front of my tongue and a dry upper pallette since Early Dec 2010. I can alleviate this during the day by chewing gum, but can’t do this at night when I need to sleep.. I suffer from recurring sore throats but don’t currently have one. My GP has reviewed my blood tests and they all came back normal. I did have a root canal work done in Oct 2010 and finished it off with a crown on Nov 2010. The crown is ceramic. A seperate dentist told me that there was nothing wrong with the work done. Where do I go from here

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

HI Ihave a six crowns and the rest are my own teeth. I have had the crowns for about twenty years. I have in the past had teeth whitening by the tray method done through the dentist. It did make my teeth white but left my crowns looking darker. The crowns are near the front teeth four on the right hand side one to the front lefthand side and another furter back Iwould like to have my crowns changed and laser whitening on the other teeth. I am fifty years old this year. please could you tell me how much this would cost. thankyou

My crown has been filed away and there is a gap between gum and tooth, is this normal?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

My gold crown was filed down in the top centre of the tooth to make it fit better. The gold has been filed away leaving what looks like the cement or the filling (I had root canal). Is the crown still effective after its been filed (drilled) away like this please?

Also the crown does not meet the gum – ie i can feel a slight gap with my tongue. Is this normal?
