Teeth with root canal seems to be broken, what are my options?

Q. I HAVE A ROOT CANAL.AND I WAS EATING SOMETHING VERY CRUNCHY WHEN I BITE I FELT THAT MY TEETH MOVE. MY DENTIST TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO WAY UNTYL THE CROWN COME OUT TO SEE IF THE PORTION OF THE TEETH IS OK BECAUSE WHEN HE CHECKED HE FELT THAT THE TEETH IS BROKE TOO. IS THERE OTHER ATERVATIVE.IS ONE OF MY FRONT TEETH

A. I would ask him to remove it and fit a temporary plate then consider a bridge or implant

Have been told I would loose all my teeth

Q. Good afternoon,I have just visited a dentist who says that I need root canal surgery,and prescribed antibiotics because of an abcess.I had an upper bridge 10 teeth fitted 5yrs ago, though not by him, and have been told that I am about to lose all of my teeth, plus the bridge. I am at my wits end. I will not contemplate dentures, and need advise on implants.Please help

A. Options for replacing mising teeth are
1. bridges
2. dentures
3. implants.

Implants are a great way of replacing missing teeth. My advice would be to see an experienced implant dentist to provide you options.

A. The costs depend on what is put in the gap. a denture is the cheapest option bridgework the next and implants the most expensive. expect to pay between £3500-4000 for 2 teeth held with implants

I need to quit smoking to have implants so is bonding an option?

Q. I am aged seventy two and I have had upper crowns and bridges for about twenty five years, now two of the teeth are crumbling inter palatally. This involves the left central incisor and the canine tooth. The remedy which has been suggested is to cut of my bridge between the central incisors, have the teeth removed on the upper left and then have implants. Until I get a new bridge I will need to wear dentures, the estimated cost for this is £9k. There will be two dentists involved in this; one says that I must stop smoking and the other dentist say that I do not need to. At present I am hoping that “cosmetic bonding” is an alternative. My questions are. Could “cosmetic bonding” prevent the offending teeth from additional crumbling? If implants are the only solution, will I need to stop smoking? Many thanks.

A. Bonding is a good temporary solution although if the teeth need to come out then it might not work that well. If you have implants stopping smoking will help improve the success rate.

Should I consider having dental implant from a titanium rod?

Q. Hi, i was wondering if a real tooth can be a replacement for a dental implant rather than titanium?

A. Thanks for your question, the titanium rod is placed into the jawbone but has a natural looking false tooth over the top of it. If you wish to avoid having the titanium rod placed, then you would need to have either a bridge (attached to either one of or both of the teeth either side of the gap) or a denture to fill the gap left by your missing tooth. Curious to know how much bridge would cost?

Q. i have all ready got dental implant into my top jaw but the 4 teeth that are attached dnt look good and the top of the teeth are to wide and big i would like to have gum effect on the brige so they would look natural when i smile also i would like to know how much it would cost just for the 4 teeth to b redone thanks

A. Thanks for your enquiry, although the cost to replace your current four unit implant bridge would vary between clinicians, you should expect to pay between £3000 & £4000. I hope this helps.

Can you explain more on Maryland bridge?

Q. maryland bridge or partial denture, for bottom front tooth which would look best,can you see silver through the gap with a bridge,my dentist does not explaine or help he is always to busy to speak.

A. Marylan bridges are permanently fixed so are nicer than dentures which need to be taken out. Both are possible options as is a dental implant. sometimes the metal is visible and the adjacent tooth can look a little grey.

With removable partial denture I am not able to speak or eat

Q. I had a removable partial denture fitted 3 days ago. I can’t speak or eat with it and I’m sure the problem is because of the acrylic palate. Is it possible to have the palate removed? I have four teeth on the denture which are held in with two clasps and it is so hard to remove it. I haven’t put it in today, because its too difficult to get out again. Please advise. Many thanks

A. It sounds like it needs adjustment although the difficulty speaking is normal when a denture is first fitted. You might have to go back to your dentist next week for adjustments or consider an alternative such as a bridge or implants.

Tooth bridges has caused lot of problems

Q. My 23-year-old daughter has a 6 tooth bridge across one incisor to the other. This was because she was missing 2 laterals. This was done instead of implants because of severe bone loss of the missing laterals and not enough space for implants. She did have braces but unfortunately had an orthodontist that didn’t know what he was doing, causing these problems. An excellent prosthodontist suggested either redo braces and gum grafting or a bridge. For monetary reasons and my daughter not wanting go through this all over again for years she chose a bridge. This is when she was 19. Is it possible for her to get implants and crowns or once a bridge, always at bridge?

A. It doesn’t sounds like anything has changed regarding the space or bone for implants and now the teeth have been trimmed (i presume) it isn’t really worth considering replacing everything. If the bridge starts to fail then the situation may change and implants may become an option then.
