Hello Dr Moore. I have a six months smile brace on at the moment that I have been told will hopefully be removed in a months time. I am also having whitening and a couple of crowns, one a replacement on my front tooth the other to cover a dead tooth. I damaged my teeth as a child falling down stairs. I have been told that I will be given a permanent fixed wire retainer on the back of my teeth for life, but I am worried that not only will this affect my bite when I eat and I also worry about keeping it clean, what are your opinions on this? I’m Too Scared To Visit My Dentist After Years Of Smoking, And Now My Teeth Are Discoloured. Will They Take My Teeth Out?

Hello Dr Hughes, I hope you can help me as I fear I have a dead front tooth as it is slightly discoloured and feels numb. Also my teeth are going see-through at the bottom. I am too scared to go to a dentist because I fear they will tell me I will lose all my teeth. Please can you tell me what to expect. I am 26 years old and I damaged my teeth with fizzy drinks and cigarettes but the dead tooth is from trauma. I have never had any dental complaints before but again I have not been to the dentist in over ten years.

My tooth has turned black after brace treatment, what can I do?

Dear Dr. Hughes,

After I got my braces put on 4 years ago my right front tooth turned gray/black at the top. My dentist told me that It lost blood flow and was dying. He said I must have had some tooth injury as a child where it was damaged, and with the braces moving it, it lost its blood flow completely. I do not recall any tooth injury as a kid but that was my dentists best guess. I had a root canal but it is still very dark. Now my braces are off and it is very dark and embarrassing. Will it fall out? What are my options to get it fixed? The dentist I used said it was an osteopathic tooth death. I am afraid if I pay to get a crown, it will then fall out and so I do not want to get a crown if there is a chance it will fall out anyway. Also it sometimes has a weird sensation, not necessarily pain but I can feel the tooth and it isn’t pleasant. I do not smile now and I really want it fixed with the best possible outcome. Thank you so much!

Can you give me some information on Lesion Sterilization Tissue Repair (LSTR)?

Hi Dr Butt,

i think i need a root canal treatment as the pain in my tooth is slowly getting worse and is becoming difficult to cope with, i have done some research online and have discovered a new treatment called Lesion Sterilization Tissue Repair (LSTR) using a combination of anti biotics (3Mix-MP)

the reason that i want this treatment is because the tooth is not actually dead and is allowed to heal naturally and so does not become brittle and its always better to have a tooth that is able to function as close to 100% as possible!

do you do this treatment at your clinic or have any plans to in the future?
