Hi. When I was a teenager I was in an accident which basically ruined my teeth. After my first child and with a horrific fear of dentists but an even bigger pain in my mouth I decided together my teeth ‘sorted’ once and for all, I was put to sleep in an operation which I thought was to remove 4 teeth, when I awoke 10 had been taken out as they were just crumbling. I’m now 24 with a bridge across the front of my mouth and substantial gaps, I have no bottom teeth except my front 6, I hate smiling, I hate everything about them, eating is near enough impossible. I can’t even remember the last crusty roll/biscuit I ate, at least before I didn’t have to worry about my gaps showing or my bridge falling out. What are my options? I’m with a new dentist now and even though I have had drastic teeth removal my other teeth are basically crumbling too, the damage is done. Is there anything I can do?

How Can I Restore My Smile?
Friday, February 13th, 2015I Am Classed As A Complex Case And I’m In Need Of An Expert. Could You Try To Give Me A Normal Smile?
Monday, November 11th, 2013Hi Mark. I am classed as a complex case having been born with a cleft palette and having extensive upper and lower jaw surgery. If I made an appointment would I get one with you regarding restorative dental work. I have metal plates holding my jaw together and one is sticking out of my gum and 2 of my molars have crumbled. I also need new veneers and crowns, one crown was recently replaced and has broken in half and all are different colours. My teeth are also too small as my old veneers have worn down, they have been on for nearly 20 years there is also a large lump that seems to be my jaw bone hanging down. I am in need of an expert and I just want a normal smile for once in my life. Thanks for your time.
Have medical condition Nail Patella Syndrome. Advise on what can be done?
Friday, February 15th, 2013 Dear Dr Hughes I am a 45 year old male who has a medical condition known as Nail Patella Syndrome. One of the problems that is common in people with NPS is a lack of enamel on the teeth and, as a result, those with this problematic hereditry disease is crumbling teeth. I have lost, bar the roots, all but 10 of my teeth and, while I had the full support of my local dentist and the local hospital, the dental school at Liverpool University refused to do anything and said that I should have them all removed. My local hospital actually asked me, having seen the x-rays, when I was diagnosed with NPS because I should have been referred to a specialist with my condition at the time. They were surprised to learn that I was diagnosed at birth and if the dentistry had still been practicing I could have taken legal action so, as you can appreciate, I am somewhat annoyed at this news. I was hoping that a mistake by an NHS practice should be resolved by one and as a musician it is important for me not to have dentures because it can be difficult to play a brass instrument. I would, therefore, be interested to know what can be done as this is causing me undue stress. I look forward to your reply.

My filling constantly falls out, will this affect me having a brace fitted?
Tuesday, July 10th, 2012I have severely crooked teeth and what I think is a side bite if I remember rightly what a dentist told me about 10 years ago. I am 26 and as a teenager didn’t persist with my retainer brace. What I was told needed done was to widen my top palet 1st before being able to have braces fitted. As i say I didn’t see this through as a teenager due to feeling like the retainer affected my every day life/confidence/self esteem more than having crooked teeth. I wish I hadn’t been so silly back then. Anyway my problem now and question to you is this….I have had trouble with 2 back teeth (one either side) that started breaking and crumbling away after having my 2nd child, they have since been filled numerous times but one sides filling keeps falling out. Would this effect me trying to have a brace fitted now?
