My Dentist Is Too Busy To Replace My Old Crown. Should I Try Another Dentist?

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014
Q.

My very old crown has fallen out and my dentist intends to restore the tooth and install a new one. He says this has only a 50% chance of working and cannot start work for some time as he is too busy to start now. It is covered with some white protective material at the moment; I am worried that the long wait to start mean deterioration underneath. He has given me three appointments so far but it will take some time to all be completed. The tooth I’m referring to is my upper left premolar. Should I wait that long or should I try another dentist? Thank you for your time.

I’m 19 And I Have A Gap Between My Teeth. What Treatment Can Fix This And Will I Need A Frenectomy?

Thursday, April 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I’m 19 years old and I’ve got gaps in my top teeth, especially between my 2 middle teeth, which is about 0.5cm wide. I think this is caused by my low maxillary labial fraenum, which is making the gap wider with time. This is really embarrassing for me and it affects my confidence. What kind of treatment do I need and what would be the estimated cost? Also, would I need to get a frenectomy afterwards?
Thank you for taking the time to advise me on this matter.

I’m Concerned That My Root Treatment Will Expose My Crowns. What Happens If I Don’t Have The Treatment?

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew, I’d like your advice. I have always visited my NHS dentist regularly. Yet, after seeing a specialist, I have been told that I need root service debridement. I am very concerned about this. Will the treatment damage/expose my crowns and if I don’t have it, what other options do I have? And what will result be without the treatment? Also can I be sure that this will extend my teeth? I have 4 crowns at the top in the front and also at the bottom. Apparently the ones at the bottom are not so bad. I am concerned that the crowns at the top will look too much like crowns. I hope to hear from you. Thank you.

Can You Give My A Rough Estimate To Repair Broken Teeth? My Husband Recently Broke His Front Tooth.

Monday, April 14th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew. My husband broke his front tooth and wants to repair it, can you give me a rough estimate of what it would cost to fix this please? This happened recently. He put the broken bit back in, but has lost that part now. He is 65 years old. Can he get this fixed or repaired? Also, his teeth have become discoloured through smoking, do you think his smoking has caused his broken tooth? Thank you in advance for taking the time to reply to my enquiry.

I Have A Long Front Bottom Tooth Which Is Very Noticeable When I Talk. What Treatment Could I Have For This?

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew, I have a question for you. I have a long front bottom tooth which is very noticeable when I talk. My dentist says it’s because of my bite as I have a bridge on my front upper set of teeth. It is greatly affecting my confidence and ideally I really need to sort this out. Could I have a brace fitted or maybe have the tooth capped?
What treatment could I have for this and what are the prices? Also is it possible to pay each month instead of all at once? I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

I Had Two Pregnancies Back To Back Which Really Did A Number On My Teeth. Will I Ever Be Able To Get A Beautiful Smile Again?

Monday, February 24th, 2014
Q.

Hello doctor. I had two pregnancies back to back that really did a number on my teeth. I ended up with periodontal disease and I am now paying the price for not paying close attention to it. I have a couple of teeth that are loose and some that I think are going to need root canals, fillings, etc. Can a mouth full of horrible teeth like mine ever be beautiful again? My biggest fear is ending up with dentures or toothless. I look forward to your advice. Thank you.

My Old Bridge Fell Off After Root Canal Work. Should I Get A Different Bridge, Like My Dentist Recommends?

Wednesday, February 5th, 2014
Q.

My 20+ year old bridge has fallen off, 2 months after having a root canal work done through the bridge into one of the supporting teeth. The other supporting tooth is now damaged. I would like to have another bridge rather than a denture, but the gap is now three teeth wide, rather than the one it was before. The two teeth either side are sound. The gap is upper front 1 left, and 1/2 right. My dentist says that a different bridge might work – one that is glued to the back of the supporting teeth, but he says that this often fails – is this right?

My Wife Has Received Unsuccessful Endodontal Treatment. How Would You Treat Her Following This?

Friday, January 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr. Moore. My wife has received unsuccessful endodontal treatment for infection in the roots. She has been advised that an extraction will be required if the infection flares up, but a crown on the tooth after sectioning has been suggested as an option. The tooth would be sectioned and half extracted (with two roots from which the infection could not be removed). A crown would then be fitted to the remaining half. Please would you let me know if this is an established technical procedure, how successful is it and is it commonly offered privately in the UK? Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you.

My NHS Are Gradually Wearing Thin. Would I Qualify For NHS Veneers Again If They Came Off?

Thursday, January 16th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Mark Hughes, I knocked my front teeth out at a young age which resulted in getting lots of dental work, finishing with NHS veneers placed on four of my front teeth (my front teeth being the teeth next to the original front teeth and the fang teeth being next to the current front teeth). I think they are composite veneers as they are wearing gradually. I had them for about eight years. I’m concerned about how they might be underneath if they were to come off as I can’t remember the preparation involved and I’m not sure of my options, I been told that I can only get them private or have them stuck back on if they were to fall off or crowned (crowns scare me a bit as I already have small natural teeth) Would I qualify for NHS veneers again if they came off?

Would It Be Possible To Have A Bridge Fitted To My Crowns Or Would I Need New Crowns At Either Side?

Monday, December 16th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. My question is that I got my top four front teeth crowned a few years ago but now my tooth has come out. Would it be possible to have a bridge fitted to my existing crowns or would I have to get new crowns at either side? At the moment I have a single tooth plate but it’s rather problematic as I have to take it out to eat, which isn’t ideal. Do you know of any other treatment I could consider. Any help or advice on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
