Q. Hey Andrew, I was just wanting a little bit of advice please. I have a Cap on one of my front teeth, and a crown on the other. The Crown is now a different shade to my other teeth. They are all a little bit uneven. Would Veneers be the best opition? If so, how much could i expect to pay? Thanks in advance,
A. You could replace the crown and match it to the other teeth or change the other teeth with either tooth whitening or veneers to create a more even colur/shape to your smile. Veneers at my clinic start from £450, let me know if you’d like me to take a look

Q. can you fit a crown in one day on the forth top tooth. plus how long would it take to close front gapt tooth
A. Thanks for your questions, there is a system availble called Cerec which enables the dentist to prepare, make and fit a crown within a single dental visit. With regards to closing the gap, there are systems available which can work in as little as six weeks, however you would need to consult a dental professional to discover which would be suitable for your individual case.

Q. I have a post crown which came loose, my dentist reseated it. He said that it maybe that the socket into which the post is inserted may have cracked, in which case he will have to replace the postcrown with a bridge. Is this the only possible alternative and what does it involve. I would appreciate your advice
A. It is often the only thing you can do when the root has cracked. You could also consider a dental implant as this wouldn’t mean drilling down the adjacent teeth which is often required for a bridge.

Q. Dr Solanki, Would a product like Invisalign be suitable for someone who has a crown on one of their two front top teeth and a double winged bridge on one of their lower left teeth? Are there any other options that could be used that have the same effect of straightening teeth that have gaps between them that could be used? Thank you for your time
A. Thanks for your questions, it is still possible to have Orthodontic treatment when you have crowns and bridges, Although I would recommend that any new restorations are delayed until after orthodontic treatment. There are many different methods for teeth straightening, each with their own advantages, such as invisble braces and braces which can work in as little as six weeks. I would recommend that you consult with a dentist or orthodontist to gain advise on which system would be best suited to your particular case.

Q. hi my wife has just been quoted a price for having 10 lava crowns fitted at cost of £450 per tooth . would you say that this is reasonable as i have no idea , any input would be grateful . many thanks

Q. Hello there, i have just come back from a visit to the dentist i have not gone for a number of years due to being so scared of what they would say and do!! I have come back with an apptionment in December for 2 fillings and to have a chipped toothe capped, he has put a temp cap on it, my main question is that i have slilt Gingivtis, thius has scares the living days out of me as i am only in my 20’s, he tld me to change my mouth wash, and get a soft Toothe Brush and it should get better, what toothe Paste would be the best for this??? And how long should this temp cap last for??? Many thanks
A. The temp cap should last till your next visit but be careful with it. If you have bleeding gums you could try corsodyl mouthwash for a week or so but it can stain the teeth. Ask the dentist if you can see his Hygieinist to give them a good scale before your next visit.

Q. hi, I had a chrown done yesterday on the upper part of my teeth. on the inside(back) of the chrown looks rather big compaired to the other tooth on the otherside. can chrown teeth befiled down to match the other side. thanks
A. Yes is could be adjusted but wait for a few weeks as it may settle in.

Q. Hi I have had a crown in place for 15 years+. Think it must have metal in it as I now have a dark tone to the gum above the tooth. Can this be rsolved or is it a case of replacing the crown with another material? Thanks.
A. Unfortunatley you would normally need to replce the crown and bury the edge of the crown below the gum. You could also use an all ceramic crown to avoid this in the future.

Q. i have porciin crown in full mouth but my dentest ask me to re done it becouse they are joint and i can not floss it. that cost too much bleeding. how much will it going to cost me for whole mouth porslin crown?

Q. my two front teeth sick way out what could be done to fix them other than braces
A. hi many thanks for your email, the other option would be to use veneers/crowns to bring them back in the smile. however the teeth may require root canal treatment. there is a case on my website under goofy teeth which give you an idea of the type of treatment that can be achieved.

Q. what is better veneers or crowns

veneers are better if there is alot of enamel left on the tooth and the teeth to be veneered are not already heavily filled.
crowns are more destuctive as more tooth tissue has to be prepared but are more protective when the teeth are more heavily filled or there is little enamel left on the tooth.

Q. I would like to know if it is possible to have a tooth implant fitted under the following circumstances: My permanent lateral incisors were removed when I was a child (roughly 6yrs old) before they could grow after an accident which fractured my jaw. I have had dentures, bridges and now have one crown fitted on one side and nothing on the other. I am now 37 yrs old.

Q. I had 2 caps done that I wasn’t really sure about the way they did it. That is, they joined the two teeth together, rather than making them individual caps. The first go around they were individual caps but alot of food was getting stuck in between and so they join them…I’m not sure I like that idea…two caps joined together, what do you think?
A. May be a good idea if the height of the underlying teeth is poor or the teeth are mobile

Q. i want to know if NHS will suport me in my circumstances.I start a full muoth restauration at private dentist last yaer but cant aford anymore.MY SITUATION CHANGE i M on long term incapacity benefit,have HC2 certificate.Basicaly i have manage to put six implants on my upper jaw and still have four teeths left who requier crawns.do you thik Nhs will help to finish upper part because I need six abutments.I can’t eat properly ,I lost alots off weights ,i have constantly pain.I have the implants one year ago

Q. Hi,I’m a very unhappy lady when it comes to my teeth , it sometimes brings me to tears i have never been able to smile for a photo and would love to. Im about to turn 40 and for once im my life would like to smile.My front three teeth are not straight,and seem to be going see through,one has had an rct and is now going grey , can you tell me what can be done and how much it can possible cost . im terrified of the dentist as well. Q. Dear Dr Caplan, have the fillings in my front front teeth an the look horrible i have had them since a child an now i am 23, however on my left hand side im missing a canine so i have a latral.An on my right i have a canine which has been made to look like a latral. both side have centrals. my right side has a root cannl which has started looking darker is there anything i can do ie whitening all my teeth or have crowns an these but i want my other teeth to look whiter to please help

Q. I am having a root canal treatment for a very sensative back tooth & a crown, this is being done on the nhs but i have to pay. Can you tell me what quality the nhs crown will be & what it is mad of? and do i have a choice ? I ask this because i have a heart condition “AF” [Atrial Fribulation] & i have been told that metal in the mouth such as lead or amalgom can cause this AF that i have. What nhs crown do you suggest i have fitted ?
A. I have seen no scientific evidence to support what you have been told regarding lead or amalgam and atrial fibrillation. I would suggest you discuss this with your cardiac surgeon or doctor to get a clear picture of the facts.

Q. Upper right incisor. I have a crown on metal post from 30 yrs ago. The crown was replaced 15 yrs ago. My root filling has gone wrong, x ray shows the root filling to have moved. I am recommended to have a apicectomy with an endodontic surgeon. Would it be better to remove this root and have an implant?

Q. my teeth have become shorter by youthful grinding !!!can you offer a solution ?
A. Normally veneers or crowns are the only option in these cases however very good aesthetic results can be acheived.
