My Gums Shrank Considerably And Now I Look 5 Years Older. Can Anything Be Done To Bring Back My Youthful Appearance?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I am a young looking 65 year old.
My dentist misjudged my gums while
preparing them for 8 span bridge he was having made for me. He removed too much and as a result I needed to have a crown lengthening. My gums
shrank considerably after I was healed.
I now look at least 5 years older than I
did before the surgery. Can anything be done to bring back my youthful
appearance? Should I reporting him
to the peer review board? Thank you. I look forward to your reply.

I Have A Common Problem, Which Is A Gummy Smile. What Type Of Cosmetic Treatment Should I Opt For?

Tuesday, November 12th, 2013
Q.

Hi there. I have a common problem it would seem, which is a gummy smile.
I am trying to establish all of the options and then which is the best one for me.
I have seen two different dentists and they don’t seem to have all of the facts. They only seem to think that veneers are the answer; they weren’t aware of any other options/solutions.
But from investigation, there seem to be the following solutions: Lip repositioning surgery and/or Botox, Orthodontic treatment, Orthognathic surgery, Crown lengthening and veneers afterwards and gum removal by laser or scalpel.  I am currently having orthodontic treatment, as I was led to believe this would solve the problem. The orthodontist has now told me that it can’t, so I need to seek other solutions. I have had lip repositioning surgery (badly), but this did not work; neither did the Botox for very long. Plus these are both temporary solutions.
Are there any other solutions out there? And who can I consult with to get an overview of all of the options? The two dentists I’ve seen so far were only able to consult on veneers really.
Thanks ever so much for your time and response. All the best.

Is Gummy Smile Treatment Risky?

Thursday, June 13th, 2013
Q.

Hello Doctor Patel. Is gummy smile treatment risky? I understand there are risks with any kind of medical treatments but I would like some more reassurance please. Also, could you please tell me how much would it cost for this kind of operation?
and irrespective of my gummy smile how much can actually be corrected without the operation? It’s my friend, he’s having such a problem finding a form of treatment to help him fix his smile.. Just one more question, are there any specialist doctors in Ahmadabad city that can help? Thank you for any help in advance. I will pass the information on to my good friend.

Can you recommend a dental expert in Northern England to treat my gum issues?

Monday, August 6th, 2012
Q.

Dr Hughes

Having no previous dental problems I decided to have cosmetic dentistry 2 years ago.

I have had crown lengthening procedure, 10 veneers followed by further surgery on my gum pockets.

I am left in constant discomfort from bleeding, swollen and sorte gums. My gums feel as though they do not fit around my teeth anymore and that I have too much space between the teeth where food accumulates.

I have also had severe bruxing, a jaw disc out of line and incorrect bite. All in all, a mess.

My dental hygiene is excellent. I believe that the preparation on my teeth and surgery was incorrectly carried out.

I went to great lengths to do my due diligence prior to choosing a dentist. My dentist has tried to fix the issues but seems to have exhausted is own knowledge or skills.

I have lost all faith in the dental profession.

Can you recommend an expert in the north of england to diagnose and advice a treatment plan please? Can you suggest possible causes and treatments for the gum issues?

Thank you in advance for reading this.

Yours sincerely.

I am not happy with my crowns but my dentist will not replace them, what can I do?

Monday, May 28th, 2012
Q.

I recently had all old crowns in front replaced. Problem: I have a long thin face. The dentist who applied my old crowns followed the contour of my face when affixing the crowns. This filled my face out and dimished my long thin face.
With the new crowns, the “new” dentist (older dentist now retired) decided I needed thinner crowns and shorter ones. As a result, I look “sick!” She will not change them and instead told me “we could obviously not work together.” I sought another dentist who does not want to replace these crowns with thicker and longer crowns as well. He wants to do crown lengthening to the top 4 front and then “maybe” make the crowns a little bit thicker…but not much. Should I seek yet another opinion?
