Can You Help Me With My 6th Form Project?

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013
Q.

Hello!

I am a sixth-form student and am currently studying for my A-levels. I’m hoping that one day I can become a cosmetic dentist like yourself! I was just wondering if it would it be possible for me to email you a list of questions for my Extended Project Qualification on Cosmetic Surgery as part of an email interview?

Here are some examples of the questions: 1. What inspired you to specialise in cosmetic dentistry? 2. Did you experience cases of low self-esteem from patients? 3. Have any patients ever expressed a loss of self-identity or self-perception post-surgery? 4. How would you measure self-identity? If you would rather I contacted you and asked them over the phone or through your personal e-mail then please let me know. Many thanks in advance.

Why Won’t My Dentist Remove My Loose Teeth?

Friday, July 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi Mark. I have very loose 2 front teeth which have been nearly knocked out so I now haven’t got no nerves going through them which makes them look sort of see through. I think they’re dying. I asked my dentist to remove them but she refused (she said they’re fine but I can see and feel how loose they have become) so I am now looking for veneers now if you can help me please as I don’t think I could cope with a palate denture. I feel that veneers are the best solution for me and I think I’ve got all of my other teeth really white just these 2 at the front, which are letting me down now and depressing me so bad. I’m not sure how I can go about getting them fixed and I’m not sure who I should visit about this now as I feel my dentist doesn’t really care that much about helping me, especially when I went about my loose teeth.

Is It Worth Having My Front Teeth Crowned At The Age Of 75?

Monday, July 15th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I was wondering if you’d be kind enough to offer some advice? My 4 front teeth are quite discoloured, grey looking and I would like to have them capped but I know this is very expensive. I am 75 and wonder if it would really be worth it! Also I am very worried about the pain that the injection for the anesthetic would cause as basically I am a coward with a fear of needles. My second tooth upper right is allready capped and has badly dicoloured over the years so that now it is a deep cream colour and badly shows up the grey teeth. Can you advise as to cost and whether I should have the treatment? I just want it fixing so I can smile properly again, I don’t think age should be a factor in this but I’m not sure. Thanks for your time.

What Choices Are Available To Me, Regarding A Cracked Tooth?

Friday, June 14th, 2013
Q.

Hi Doctor Patel. I wondered if you could help me? Unfortunately, I have cracked one of my teeth (bottom row, right at the back). The crack is across the top of the tooth but it is not causing me any pain at the moment. I know if I don’t get it seen to it could become infected or it may even die.  I have made a dentist appointment but I wanted to know what choices should be available to me? I would like to know because I know cosmetic work can be quite costly. So I need to know how much money I am likely to be paying. I also work, so it would be great to know how many appointments I’ll have to make in order to have this problem fixed. Thank you for your time.

Should My Dentist Provide Me With A New Crown?

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013
Q.

My dentist has just completed an implant on a lower molar. When he cemented the PFM crown in it sat too high with the point of the tooth above hitting the middle of the crown. He ground a channel in new crown so my teeth fit together well. However this has exposed a small amount of the metal in the crown. It looks like a small metal filling. I am not too bothered about the look as it is not that visible and it otherwise fits well, but is this an ok practice and is more of the porcelain likely to chip away? He has offered to take the crown out and add a bit more enamel. Should I ask for a new crown? He is our regular family dentist and I do not want to cause fiction.

Can I Whiten My Teeth From Home?

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013
Q.

Good Evening I was would like to ask you for your expert advice, my Sister and I would like to have our teeth whitened but are really confused. We had it done professionally a couple of years ago by our dentist. For which we paid £500 each, but when we went home we ate a banana roll as we’re vegan and we didn’t know or think that the colour of the food would affect our teeth but, we later found out by reading about it online that it would. I would allso like to point out that  we also didn’t continue with any home whitening kits as we weren’t told to. Can we just buy the home whitening kits? Or do we need them whitened by a dentist first? Thanks

Dead nerve has turned my tooth grey; can you help?

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013
Q.

Hi,

I recently had an abcess and had to undergo root canal treatment, as well as some treatment on my front tooth where the abcess started from.

However the nerve had to be ‘killed’ and now my front tooth has grey areas where my gum is.
Obviously I would like the tooth to be as white as the other one but as it is a ‘dead’ tooth, is this possible without visiting a dentist?

I would like to be recommended some treatment to remove the grey area, hopefully you can advise.

Thanks.

How much would lingual six month smile braces cost?

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011
Q.

Hi there Dr Rob

i was wondering if i could get a quick estimate? how much roughly would lingual six month smile braces cost. I’ve found estimates for normal six month smiles in a place in Birmingham for around £1400, im not sure if this would be an accurate quote. i was wondering whether the cost of lingual six month braces normally be considerably higher than this? Ive been online and have seen both the dental suites in leicester as well as one in loughborough are advertising that they do this type of lingual six month smile treatment. i was hoping you would you know of any place in/around birmingham who also offer this service?

How can I get my Crooked Teeth fixed quickly

Thursday, May 5th, 2011
Q.

I was just wondering if you can get veneers at 16 with parental permission? I am very self conscious and would like my teeth sorted before i start college in september. My bottom teeth are straight, however my top front teeth protrude and are quite crooked and some overlap eachover. I also find two of my teeth on the top to be quite fanged. I also find my teeth to be quite stained. I feel as if braces won’t sort the problem out quick enough and may also make me even more self-conscious as i am aware with of the comments that come with braces. I want to be able to smile and not be worried what people think.

Thankyou.
