Q. Dear Dr, I would be grateful if you would give me some advice. I am need t get braces to correct overcrowding on both the top and bottom teeth. I have had a consultation for 6 month braces. I am not sure whether to get them or to go for traditional braces. Have you had any dealings with 6 months braces? Would you recommend them?
A. I would always recommend traditional braces as the first choice of treatment. 6 months braces can only be used in specific cases which involve mild to moderate crowding of the front teeth.

Q. Hi Dr Moore,I would like to ask you what I can do in my situation.I start a full mouths restauration last year,I already pay 10 .000 pounds .all the extraction been done,manage to have 6 implants on my upper jaw as well; still have four off mynteeths on upper jaw who need crowns,on my lower jaw just four teeths on the front.Now my circumstances change,I m on benefit I have a Hc2 certificate wich is not seems to help me much.I am stuck in the midle with a temporarty bridge wich is not even done properly because my dentist not pay any interes any more.My dentist even sugest to have the implants extracted and have ba denture instead wich I think is ridiculos.Anyway what I want to ask is if I have any chance to finish the work with a private dentist and pay the diference for the abutments for example.
A. I’m sure you would be able to find someone who will be happy to finish the work for you. It would be very useful for them to know the type and sizes of implants used so the correct components can be ordered. Unfortunatley none of this treatment is available on the NHS so your NC2 cert isn’t any use. Let me know if you’d like me to take a look Regards

Q. Hi ive got a cannine that sticks out.My dentist dosnt advise me to have treatment as i am 44 and have lost bone density. Is there anything I could have done to straighten it?

Q. Hi, I live in York I’m 17, and I had my teeth sorted about a couple of years ago. I’ve had treatment on my teeth since I was 8, and I still wear braces now. My teeth were perfect after I had traintracks, and I was given a clear bottom retainer (which I still wear). At the time I did wonder why I wasn’t given a top one as well. He replied that if I wear the bottom one, it will keep the top ones in place. It hasn’t. I have 1 reasonably out of place, and two others slightly. I know that it doesn’t sound like much, but from having my teeth perfect, and wearing my retainer like I should have, makes me rather annoyed in a sense. I’m almost 18, and I was wondering if I now had to pay for treatment, ie retainers etc? And also, I am still in full time education, due to me having to re-sit the whole two years of my A levels, as I have been very ill, and hospitalised occasionaly. I will finish my A levels when I am 19. So would still being in full time education mean that I can still have treatment on my teeth for free? Thank you for your time, and I do not mind if you cannot fully answer my question.
A. Thanks for your questions, I would recommend you return to your clinician to discover whether they would be willing to correct your problems, due to the lack of a retainer. If they will not I do not think that you would be able to receive further treatment free of charge on the NHS, as your malocclusion may now not be severe enough to fulfil the NHS criteria for treatment. If this is the case I would recommned that you attend and Orthodontist or cosmetic dentist to discuss possible treatment options. There are systems available provately which can work in as little as six weeks. I hope this will help.

Q. Hi Dr Solanki, I have a narrow tooth to the left of my front teeth and to the left of that tooth I have a fang tooth which I really hate the appearance and feeling of, it is positioned a bit higher than my other teeth and when my mouth is closed if you press along my mouth you can clearly feel a difference there, also when smiling it does not look good. I love to smile but past few years I smile alot less with my mouth open, it does affect me and in general most of my teeth need fixing eg; straightened, some reshaped to look even and whitened. I was wondering what could be done to help with my upper left fang tooth so it looks normal and also for all my teeth to be straight, even and white? I would prefer not to have braces. Hope you can make some sense of what I am asking for here and also any general pricing to give me an idea would be great. Many Thanks.
A. Thanks for your questions, although you would prefer not to have braces, I would encourage you to look into the various types of braces which are available today. There are systems which can work in as little as six weeks, as well as systems which are virtually invisble. If however this is really not for you, you may wish to consider having the teeth veneered. The veneers could be used to alter the size, shape, colour and overall aesthetic appearance of your teeth, to create the smile you desire. I hope this helps.

Q. Hi Dr Solanki. I am 39 and live in the Manchester area. I have been looking at your practice on the internet for some time now and like what i see. I know it is very difficult for you to give such advice without seeing me but i have just a few questions before i take the plunge if that’s ok. Without going into the reasons why my teeth are like they are (same story as everyone else) i am sure what remains of my top teeth need to be removed. If i book a consultation at your practice, what is the cost of this ? and what is included ? xrays ect ? I would like to go down the road of implants with a fixed bridge. Now, assuming my bone is sufficiant what is the likely cost, with everything included. I have saved a small deposit of around £3000 and obviously would need to finance the rest. I am in secure well payed employment. However my credit reference isnt the best with 2 blemishes on. Does your practice do finance and would i be likely to get it ? Sorry for going on and thanks for your time.
A. Thanks for your question, I offer a free inital consultation, to discuss your treatment options and to outline the associated prices. There would be fees associated with x-rays, but often this would be at a second appointment, when my patient has decided that they are happy to proceed. Although I am unable to give a definate price for this treatment, without a consultation, I would usually estimate around £10,000. We do have the facility to offer interest free credit for this treatment, over a period of up to two years, or interest bearing credit over a maximum of five years. Q. I am 46. I have recently noticed my teeth are discolouring. I dont smoke or drink fizzy drinks, but I am a coffee (not tea) drinker. I roughly drink around 4 cups per day. The tooth next to my front left is a milk tooth with a tiny filling, and the one next to that is slightly twisted. I would like to know the following pls. (a) can I have whitening treatment that would include a milk tooth? (b) to straighten the slightly twisted tooth, how much would that cost? Thank You
A. Thanks for your questions, it is possible to have teeth whitening treatment, despite the fact that you still have one of your baby teeth. However it is also possible that this tooth may not whiten as much as your permanent adult teeth. In respect of the teeth straightening treatment, there are many systems available today, with different benefits, with systems that are virtually invisible to systems whioch work in as little as six weeks. The cost of straightening will vary between systems and practices, however I can tell you that I currently offer teeth straightening from £999, with the option of interest free monthly payments available. Q. Hi i have a gap between my to front teeth and i really dislike it alot and was woundering what the best aproach is? ive heard of dentail bonding and was woundering what are your thoughts on that? ive always wanted the top teeth made into veneers to get a perfect smile but it costs to much so thats why i was woundering about bonding and how much roughly would it cost?
A. Thanks for your questions, Dental bonding could be an option, depending on the size of the gap you are trying to close. I would expect you to pay no more than £300 for the two teeth. Your other options would be veneers, which I would expect to cost between £400 – £600 per tooth, or teeth straightening for which I currwently have treatments available from £999. There are many practices now, who are able to offer monthly payments schemes such as interest free credit to help you spread the costs of treatment. I hope this helps.

Q. Hi, i was wondering if a real tooth can be a replacement for a dental implant rather than titanium?
A. Thanks for your question, the titanium rod is placed into the jawbone but has a natural looking false tooth over the top of it. If you wish to avoid having the titanium rod placed, then you would need to have either a bridge (attached to either one of or both of the teeth either side of the gap) or a denture to fill the gap left by your missing tooth. Q. I am very worried about a friend of mine who is very unhappy about her teeth. She has had severe gum disease and has lost some teeth and although the gum disease has now gone her gums and teeth are not in a good way. She can not afford the cosmetic dentistry that she needs and this is now impacting on her life. She has become very self conscious and has lost a lot of her self confidence. Is there any funding available to help her?

Q. Hello, I have had a Inman Aligner treatment and I finished it. But my dentist suggested I wear the Inman Aligner after the treatment for few more months so I have worn it for more than 10 months(I guess, but I did have proper treatment before wearing Inman Aligner with metal thing). Unfortunately, I lost it today and I don’t think I could find it and moreover, I don’t I could see my dentist again, as he is in different country. I want to have a new Inman Aligner, the appliance, but not the treatment, as I have finished it already. How much do you think, in this case, would cost me to have an Inman Aligner? If it is far over £500(but I do hope that the cost would be far less than 500, as I DO NOT NEED ANY TREATMENT, BUT JUST THE APPLIANCE), could you recommend me other appliances that might be suitable to keep the “already rearranged shape”?(And that should be fairly cheap, because my parents have already paid quite a lot to arrange a treatment for me and they do not want to spend extra money, which means that I have to pay)
A. You need a retainer if you are happy with your teeth now you need a fixed metal wire placed around the backs of the front teeth and a removable “gumshield” retainer. Find an orthodontist or good dentist and they will be able to provide this for you.

Q. maryland bridge or partial denture, for bottom front tooth which would look best,can you see silver through the gap with a bridge,my dentist does not explaine or help he is always to busy to speak.
A. Marylan bridges are permanently fixed so are nicer than dentures which need to be taken out. Both are possible options as is a dental implant. sometimes the metal is visible and the adjacent tooth can look a little grey.

Q. I have 6 bottom front teeth and a top plate,could vou tell me if it is possible to grind down the bottom teeth and fix on a full denture, and how much would it cost?thankyou.
A. You could have something called an overdenture which sits over your existing teeth. The teeth can also be used to secure a new denture using precision attachments or clasps.

Q. Dr Tennet, My upper two front teeth have 40 year old root canals. What is left of the teeth themselves is a very fragile & dark brown. What is the best cosmetic choice for covering them? I currently have porcelain crowns with white (titanium?) cores. They are ok, but not super. Any other options? Also, the gum above one of the crowns protrudes a bit more than its neighbor. That developed after the crowns were replaced a few years ago. My doctor has x-rayed and it doesn’t show an infection. I’m guessing a lot can go wrong with old dental work? Any advice would be appreciated
A.
Discoloured Root filled teeth can be a problem to shade match All ceramic Zirconia cores are a good route but the level of opaque will need to be judged by trial and error it usually requires a few visits. The crown margins should be about 1mm below the gum line to hide the dark root emerging. If this is not possible then some periodontal plastic surgery to reshape the gum using grafts / emdogain etc might be an option.

Q. Hi Due to gum disease I lost all of my teeth last year. I would like to know how much it would cost to have full upper and lower implants. i have been quoted from the ridiculous £40,000.00 to the even more ridiculous £6,000.00 (some difference) this is a procedure i will definately be having as soon as possible. Can you please let me know what the correct cost would be? Many thenks
A. Its very difficult to give you a quote without seeing you and assessing the amount of bone you have, how many implants you need and how many teeth to finish things off. As a guide, assuming you will need some bone rebuilding we would charge in the region of £12-15,000 per jaw for 12 fixed teeth held with 8 implants.

Q. Hi, I have just returned from a visit to my dentist today. My appointment was for preparation for a crown on upper molar, second from back. This tooth had broken in half followng root canal treatment and filling 5 years ago. My current dentist put a temporary cover on it and we left it for six months to ensure that the seal hadn’t been breached. When he removed the temporary today he advised he would be unable to save the tooth as what was left of the tooth was partially below the gum-line rendering a crown that would not be viable. He suggested either a bridge, which he felt was not a good option due to the grinding down of the adjacent teeth and suggested an implant at a cost of £2,000. Having done some research on the internet some sites have said that crowns can be placed even if there is only a root left (that has had root canal treatment) and a post can be inserted into the root for the crown to be attached to. Can you advise if this is a possibility please? I look forward to your response. Many thanks.
A. the details are all important here. some teeth can be managed with crowns some are better extracted.
the size, shape and location of the residual tooth : filling are all important.
Before implants there were several common ways to solve the problems. But the fix might only last 5-10years, Implants can be more predictable in some cases. so tend to be increasing in popularity.

Q. I have recently completed a course of cosmetic dental treatment which included a porcelain veneer on one of my front teeth. I don’t feel at all happy with it as it is rough to the touch and not the same colour as the other tooth. It appears almost stained!I am concerned to speak to my dentist as a complaint seems an insult to his work, however, the treatment was expensive and I am not happy with the result. Your advice would be appreciated as I don’t believe a pocelain veneer should be rough. Thank you for any help you are able to offer.

Thanks for getting touch, I would recommend that you do return to your dentist and explain your concerns. I would much prefer my patients to be happy with their treatment and be able to recommend my work. It may be that there is a little excess cement left from when the veneer was fitted. However in respect of the colour, the veneer should be enhancing your smile without standing out, and so the dentist may have to consider remaking the veneer in a shade which better matches your natural teeth shade.
