How can I get my Craze line removed?

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. I have a craze line in one of my top front teeth. It is a long vertical line. It is really noticeable when the sun hits it, or under a bright light. Is there anything to do 2 fix this or is it better to leave it? It bothers me a lot by the way it looks. Also how often do you see this as a dentist? How many patients do you get with a craze on one of their two front top teeth? I know it is common in other teeth I just do not notice it with anyone else. Plus I am just 22 years old. How common is this in someone my age? In the two top front teeth in particular? Thanks for your time!

A. Craze lines are very common and often not noticeable by anyone other than the person who has it. If it really bothers you then you might have to consider a veneer to cover it up

Lost 5 teeth due to accident and want it to be repaired.

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. Hi,Doc,I had was involved in a traffic accident 20 years ago and lost 5 teeth. At the time i went to the dental hospital in edinburgh and had scans to see if it was possible to get implants.I was told because I had lost some bone in my jaw du e to accident, that there wasn,t enough to affix implants to,,since then i believe it is now possible to graft bone and therefore have procedure done..My question is: Since this was done through having an accident, Is possible to have procedure done on NHS, At the present time I am on incapacity benifits and DLA.Also I am a former seafarer and wonder if the dreadnought society could accomodate this.

A. I’m sorry to hear of your problems but you are very unlikely to be able to have implants done on the nhs as this treatment isn’t available

Please help me in getting golden teeth.

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. Hello Doctor I have a existing upper denture with four mollars on the right side and three on the left and two front teeth, could I have the two front teeth changed to gold. Many thanks

A. In this situation – as long as the remaining teeth are healthy – I use crowns and precision attachments to hold a denture firmly in place.  This produces a result that is very stable and removable.  If you wish for a non-denture solution then implants are a possibility – you would probably require bone grafting to allow for there to be enough bone available for implant placement.  Hope this helps

Sugar consumption has ruined my teeth please suggest a treatment.

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. Hello, I am 16 and have been so scared to smile all my life. I have always had issues with my teeth. At the moment my top teeth are all slightly separated (especially my top 2 ones) and my bottom 2 teeth have decayed and are rotting because of drinking soft drinks. They have even gotten to the point where they are starting to chip off. The bottom two ones have black blotches in them and it makes me feel very unconfident with smiling. I have good dental hygiene in the sense that i floss and brush 2 times daily using a soft brush, but i have ruined my teeth with the amount of sugar i have consumed over the years. What dental procedure would you recommend that could possibly fix my issue to have a beautiful smile?

A. If you have got tooth destruction then I would recommend the minimal amount of remaining tooth be removed.  In this situation porcelain restorations usually will give you the best result.  Please contact my practice for a free cosmetic consultation.

Q. Hi. I wanted to know how much a silver tooth would cost, I don’t know anything about it or how it would be done but how much do they normally go for?

Q. Hi My tempory veneer has come off. Does it matter if I don’t get it re-attached and just wait for the final veneer to be attached? (I have to wait 7 days).

A. Should be fine provided the contacts with the next door teeth are still intact to maintain the space

Temporary veneers were better than permanents once can it be remade?

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. Hi, I have just had veneers fitted. Firstly I have temporary ones for 3 weeks which I had adjusted once, I little trimmed off the bottom then I was 100% happy with them, so the lab went ahead and made my permanent veneers. But now that I have them fitted they look a lot different from my temps, a lot smaller and shorter. My original teeth looked better, and I have paid over £3000 for te veneers. Would it be possible to go back in and get them re-made? Thanks.

A. You need to go back to your dentist and discuss with them your concerns

Reduced front teeth size causing problem while eating.

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. Hi, my front teeth have reduced in size overtime, causing me to develop a lisp. In addition, i also find it difficult to eat and have to use my side teeth as i cannot penetrate the food with my front teeth. what should i do ?

A. It sounds as though you have a wear problem.  You may need to have your teeth lengthened to reestablish your correct speech pattern

My milk tooth was removed and never grew back.

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. I am 19. I have a canine tooth missing – it never grew in after my milk tooth was removed. I have been told by many people that it would be fine and that I could just leave it as it is, so I did. I’m noticing that my teeth are beginning to shift into the gap, however, considering its been a number of years already since my milk tooth was removed, the other teeth has only shifted a little. What would be the worst thing that could happen and CAN i just leave it as it is?

A. You can leave it and the only problem would be an aesthetic problem provided you do not have chipping or breaking of your back teeth.  The canines often protect the back teeth from damage.

I need to change my dentist as my teeth in total are messed up.

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. I am a 29 year old male and near enough all my back teeth have either fallen out or are decaying really badly. I have my front teeth however I feel unless I am able to get some help with this I then they will go the same way. Not to bore you with the details however I have been through a pretty tough time over the past few years and medication has not helped with the decyaing of my teeth I feel. Due to this I have not visited a dentist for years and this has meant I have ended up with the teeth I have. I am now at a point where I both need and want to do something about them and I feel if I could get partial dentures to the back of my mouth, both upper and lower this would help me out. The problem I have is that I live in Scotland, (Glasgow Area) and I do not know who to go for to help me out and also any idea of the cost I would be looking at for this. I am totally and utterly embarassed by the way I have let my mouth/teeth get into the mess they have. I do now however need help and would hate for a dentist to give me into trouble for the mess of my mouth as I am already mortified. Any help or assistance you are able to give would be greatly apprieciated. Thanks very much in advance

A. I would suggest you visit a dentist in your area – I have taught David Cashel – you may contact him

I have been suggested dentures and implants do I have other options?

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. Hi I have recently suffered a fracture to my upper right canine which had a cantilever bridge attached with a pontic for the lateral incisor. I have the same arrangement on the left upper side and two veneers on my central incisors. This is because I never got my permanent lateral incisors. My dentist says the only option for me is a denture or implants. I really don’t want to go back to having a denture but I don’t think I can afford implants. Would it not be possible to have another type of bridge using my front incisor and the canine for support? As What other options could I have? thanks

A. This is a possibility but you need to be properly assessed

After my bridge broke I am considering implants please suggest.

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. I had a bridge spanning a gap of two front teeth attached to one canine and one incisor(think thats what its called middle front top) The bridge broke this week and broke the root of the front incisor and broke the post in half in the canine. My dentist says there is no option but to remove them and have a plate. As I have Sjogrens Syndrome, a dry mouth, I am looking for a different option if possible. I take 7.5mg of prednisolone daily for polymyalgia rheumatica and 150mg monthly of ibandronic acid for my bones to stop osteoporosis. Could I be a candidate for implants? Should implants be put in at extraction or do you wait till its healed? Obviously there is a gap where two have been extracted many years ago which would require implants as well. Advise please as extraction is pencilled in for Thursday next week

A. I would try to find a dentist who migt be able to offer you the cahnce of immediate implants, even if you turn out not to be a suitable candidate. In the long run you should still be able to have implants rather than a plate. If your in my area I would be quite happy to take a look for you. contact me on implant@advancedentalclinic.com
