Q. Hi i have a gap between my to front teeth and i really dislike it alot and was woundering what the best aproach is? ive heard of dentail bonding and was woundering what are your thoughts on that? ive always wanted the top teeth made into veneers to get a perfect smile but it costs to much so thats why i was woundering about bonding and how much roughly would it cost?
A. Thanks for your questions, Dental bonding could be an option, depending on the size of the gap you are trying to close. I would expect you to pay no more than £300 for the two teeth. Your other options would be veneers, which I would expect to cost between £400 – £600 per tooth, or teeth straightening for which I currwently have treatments available from £999. There are many practices now, who are able to offer monthly payments schemes such as interest free credit to help you spread the costs of treatment. I hope this helps.
Kindest Regards

Q. I’m 22 and my teeth are awful! I’m embarassed to smile, laugh and often get told to ‘cheer up’ because of my regular closed mouth expression. My teeth are discoloured, sensitive, and crooked. This is due to lack of dental care when I was a child. I regularly use whitening products, and sensitive toothpastes, I visit the dentist but just seem to have filling upon filling. I’m so scared of one of my front teeth completely falling out. I honestly feel like I would be happier with false teeth, which is a bit of a daunting prospect at the age of 22. Being a student, I cant afford cosmetic dentisty and even the financial plas seem to want £100+ a month, which just isnt an option for me. I don’t seem to have a local dentistry school, and even ones far away seem to have full waiting lists. I’ve considered using a student loan to go abroad to have ‘cheap’ dentistry work done but hav been advised this could make things even worse. What should I do?
A. Its very difficult to have extensive treatment on a budget. You might be able to get some done on the NHS which is usually cheaper than paying privately. You always take a risk when going abroad as often the cost isn’t that much different, especially as the pound is quite weak against the Euro at the moment. You might also have complications that require further visits abroad. I guess the best option would be to save up as much as possible and to start the treatment in stages perhaps using a finance plan to help spread the costs?

Q. i have extremely yellow teeth. i dont smoke, drink tea or coffe so i dont understand why my teeth should be so yellow. please could you tell me why this is happening and what i could do to get them a bit more presentable in other words whiter. please answer me as soon as possible because i need to start smiling with confidence thankyou.
A. The yellowness of your teeth is based on the proportion of enamel to dentine and the water content of the dentine. A simpler way to treat this is to have your teeth professionally bleached by a dentist. Treatment can take from 2 weeks to 6 months depending on the type of internal stain

Q. Dear Dr. Moore, My 8 year daughter has a rare tooth condition and I am looking for someone who has heard, seen, or treated a similar case. Her top front 4 teeth have come in as two large teeth. She is a beautiful, outgoing, young girl but is already getting teased by the other kids. Any suggestions?
A. Its is very diffucult to treat this sort of problem at an early age as the mouth is changing all the time and any treatment can sometimes affect the new teeth coming through or made ned correcting every 6 months or so. However when the child is being teased and it starts to affect their confidence I have been known to start the treatment very early and add or adjust things as the child grows and as new teeth come through. It case needs treating on its merits so if you would like me to take a look please contact me on enquiry@advancedentalclinic.com and I will be happy to arrange a full consultation.

Q. Hello When I was 16 I wore a retainer to sort out my over bite and my front 2 top teeth which cross over (I was a thumb sucker as a child). My treatment was never finished. No, at 25yrs my main concern is my front two top teeth. One overlaps the other, the overlapping tooth get bashed quite a bit and the corner is slowly chipping/wearing away. Apparently I also push my tongue forward onto these two teeth every time I swallow (tongue thrusting) wish is slowly making it worse. I am looking to get my front teeth straightened but am not sure what sort of treatment this would involve and at what cost. Please could you advise on the best affordable solutions for me. I look forward to your reply Many Thanks,
A. I would suggest that you have a consultation with an specialist orthodontist to discuss which orthodontic appliances would best correct your overbite which you are concerned with.
I am confident that this can be improved or completely corrected there are loads of different orthodontic appliances on the market.
The options on the market vary from fixed conventional appliances to clear removable appliances, I would strongly suggest you see a specialist in orthodontics to achieve your desired result.
The cost of the treatment depends from practice to practice so the best option is to shop around and find somewhere that tailors to your budget.
Also with the tongue thrusting issue i would highly suggest that you ask about retention at your orthodontic consulations and what the cost would be at the end of the treatment as retention is life long and vital to prevent relapse of orthodontic result. I would suggest that you enquire about removable and fixed retention as retention can sometimes be at extra cost of the intial orthodontic treatment.

Q. Hi Julian i need some advice i haven’t been to a dentist since i was in my early teens i’m now 29, My teeth are really bad and have been since a kid and have affected my confidence greatly i’m also terrified of the dentist since i was given gas as a kid and took a bad reaction to it. I know i have to do something with my teeth as they are only going to get worse and i need my confidence back as it holds me back, my fear is if i need cosmetic treatment and the cost i wouldn’t be able to afford the treatment as my teeth are that bad. Is there any instances where treatment done subsidised i really want to avoid false teeth. Any advice on what to do would be great thanks.
A. My best advice is to find a dentist near you who can offer a free consultation to discuss your trreatment options and costs

Q. Hello I wonder if you could help. I am extremely unhappy with my ‘fangs’ and would like to find out if there is something that could be done cheaply. They are very large and sharp and completely ruin my smile. This is seriously knocking my confidence. Please help! Thanks
A. If they are slightly longer than the other teeth- you can have them contoured. As long as the dentist knows what he/she is doing- and the shaping stays in enamel, then you should have no problems. If they stick out too much, then perhaps you should consider orthodontic options- a brace to push them back a little. I would advise you see a cosmetic dentist to discuss your options in person. I would be more than happy to see you at my kissdental practice for a free consultation. Good luck

Q. Following an accident about 18 months ago one of my front teeth was knocked out- this was able to be replaced by a doctor in A and E. I then had root canal treatment on the tooth by my dentist. Unfortunately the tooth was not replaced straight and is alot more forward than the one at the side of it and slightly overlaps. Since the accident my confidance has been significantly affected. I find I cover my mouth when I laugh or smile. Also I have recently noticed movement in my gum when I bite down on the tooth- im concerned the tooth will crack or fall out and so I tend to eat on one side of my mouth away from the effected tooth. Are there any solutions available to restore my confidance in my smile and with eating food again? Thank you.
A. Yiu need not suffer. I would advise that you consider having a dental implant retained crown. This is a permanent fixed option and is the next best thing to having your real tooth. It sounds as though the tooth is on it’s way out- but I obviously cannot say for sure without seeing you personally and assessing the tooth in question. I recommend that you see your dentist who can refer you for a consultation with an implantologist. Alternatively, I would be more than happy to offer you a free consultation at my kissdental practice. Good luck

Q. Hello, I am 21 years old, I am a student studying psychology than going on to med school, so clearly i am not going to be able afford private cosmetic work done for a very long time. I have such bad teeth, i avoid smiling. I can’t stand looking at my teeth, every time i brush my teeth i have to turn my back to the mirror. My teeth make me so depressed. When i was younger i used to smoke, i also use to have somewhat of an eating disorder, where i use to make my self sick, so my teeth bare the scars of this. Do you know if NHS dentists offer a payment plan? I’d ask my dentist all this, but as you can imagien NHS dentists are very rushed in thier appointments, so i cannot stress enough how depressed my teeth make me. I feel that a nice smile would greatly improve my quality of life, Thank you for your time. PS, if i sent you a pic, would you be able to suggest the best course of action. Thank you
A. You are more than welcome to send me a picture and i can give you more advice. If you do not feel you can afford private cosmetic care you may be able to visit one of the dental teaching hospitals and they may be able to help you.

Q. hi, im getting married in aug and have a tooth that sticks out at the front – its really annoying and i just want it be in line with the rest of the teeth in the front. Do i have enough time to get it fixed before my big day and what do u think is needed to sort it out?
A. The fastest fixes are veneers, preliminary orthodontics might be able to get some improvement if combined. I would recommend a detailed treatment plan which may cost a few hundred pounds to simulate a few treatments.
Basically it can be done in most cases.
Some practices like StJohns offer a free preliminary chat with a dentist to discuss the main choices.

Q. I am 23 years old. I have had 3 children, and during my pregnancies my teeth started rotting, so me being pregnant, thinking I could not help. I did not go. I stopped brushing my teeth for awhile because they would hurt, my gums would be very tender and bleed (they still do). I try to brush my teeth now and I still have the same problem. I have a lot of holes, a missing k-9 tooth, a couple of rotting wisdom teeth, missing moullers. It hurts sometimes no matter what I eat. It seems as though when I chew my teeth are going to just break. I’m so afraid of losing my teeth but I’m afraid of pain and I don’t like to hear my teeth being pulled out, that sounds awful. I know I should go see a dentist and I really want to, but money is always an issue. My credit is awful but I need help so bad. My mouth is falling apart and I’m so sad about this that it almost makes me feel depressed and I don’t like to smile or even open my mouth. I don’t even like to kiss anymore!!
please help do I still have a chance?
A. If your youngest child is less than 1 year old you automatically get free NHS dental treatment. If your child is over 1 year you may still get free treatment on income / benefit grounds. To find an NHS dentist consult NHS direct by phone or internet, if you do pay charges the most it can be for a full course of treatment is £198.
It is important that you continue to make the moves back to getting your teeth / smile / confidence back. Don’t give up or ignore it.

Q. Hi Komai I am a very nervous person about Dentists and am 22 yr old student who also has never had any work done on my teeth i have had consultations done but too scared too go back because the dentist was really nasty to me for never going(my parent never took me) but i really have lost all confidence and don’t want to smile or look in the mirror. I would really love to have cosmetic dentistry and start over with a new smile. Do you think that you could get this done on the NHS as i cant really afford the cost of the treatment as im still at uni . regards
A. It is probably not possible to have cosmetic treatment carried out on the NHS. You will probably have to have it carried out privatley. Sorry I can’t give you any better news. As far as being scared, there are plenty of dentists that would talk you through the treatment and be very gentle with you

Q. I was totally dental phobic as a child due to bad expereinces at the dentist with tooth extractions and, as a consequence, I never wore a brace. Now, as a result, I have severely crowded teeth. The 4 front teeth (incisors?) aren’t really affected and are relatively straight but the canine teeth stick out Dracula-like to the extent that I can’t bite on them at all and they poke through my lips if I smile. There is really very little gap between the second insisors and the premolars next to them and the canines stick out above them. Can anything be done for me? I don’t want to wear a brace at my age (early 40s) and think my only hope is to have the canines removed and try to do something with the remaining teeth. My teeth really are the bane of my life and have made my life a complete misery over the years. It seems to be getting worse lately and is making me quite depressed and is having a real negative effect on my life to the point that I feel quite depressed most of the time. They are on my mind constantly and I have no one to really share all this anxiety with as I feel so embarrassed about my teeth I won’t draw attention to them. I even change the subject if anyone so much as mentions teeth! I feel that if I could get my teeth fixed all this would stop and I could finally enjoy my life and actually smile and not feel scared or embarrassed to smile. Nowadays, I read about all the marvellous advances in cosmetic dentistry and I think more and more that a few thousand pounds spent on my teeth would be money well spent if it made me feel that my life was worth living. To me, to have teeth that I didn’t feel embarrassed to show the world would be better than wining the lottery. Can you help or advise?
A. hi many thanks for your enquiry, the best thing would be to seek the advice of a cosmetic dentist. sometimes veneers and crowns on the teeth can correct this problem even without extractions. if you give me an idea of where you live i would be happy to recommend a dentist to you or alternatively you could come a see me.

Q. Hi, I’m 21 years old and, although I do my best to maintain my teeth, I feel I am now prolonging the mild discomfort, and lack of confidence they create, plus I am guessing that eating on one side of my mouth to avoid pain cannot be healthy long term. I have many fillings in many teeth and should have cared for my teeth much more during childhood and my teenage years. I am at the stage now where the constant trips to my dentist are costing me hundreds of pounds a year due to fillings falling out etc, and as a result I have decided to restore them once and for all. I am in
terested in a full mouth reconstruction, however, all my teeth are still in place, albeit with a golden glow, only broken by areas of black; would the fact they are still there cause a problem or limit my options? I have read about implants, mini implants and bridges, as I would obviously want to avoid dentures if at all possible. I am hoping that I can only have work on the teeth that are on show when I smile, both upper and lower, and simply have fillings in the back teeth. It seems to me that a bridge would be my cheapest option, with implants being the most costly, but would a bridge be able to extend from one upper 6 across to the other and the same for the lower teeth? Also, I would like the ‘false’ teeth to be quite white, as they would not be on show with any of my other teeth; would this be possible? If it were possible to have a pair of bridges of this size, could you advise me as to an approximate cost I would pay. If a bridge of this size was not possible mini implants would be my next choice, however, I am unsure of how common surgeries with this option are; could you please advise? And would the mini implants also be able to extend from the above stated teeth, and could you please advise on a approximate cost for this method with my estimated sizes? I understand that these surgeries depend on factors such as gum and bone structure, but, if my mouth is able to accommodate, as mentioned above would I need to have my remaining teeth removed (at extra cost?) or would they preventnall together? Thank you for your time
A.
Thank you for all your questions.
It is impossible to answer all these questions without a consultaion. I would recommend you book a consultation, to allow for a full mouth examination .

Q. If a patient said to you “My bite has changed. My front bottom teeth touch the back of my front top teeth before the rest of my teeth touch. When I close my mouth now (in order for my back teeth to touch), there is a lot of pressure created where my front bottom teeth are pressed up against the backs of my front top teeth. My bottom front teeth press up against the backs of my top front teeth, and inhibit me from closing my mouth. These symptoms have developed within the passed few months. ” What would you recommend? I had a dentist tell me that to treat this you had to file down the backs of my top teeth, and he also filed down the tops of my bottom teeth (even though he said my bottom teeth were not going to be touched). This did not help at all, and now my bottom teeth look slanted and uneven, and are now sensitive to cold temperatures. Also, I feel like the condition has worsened, and this deviation in my bite has only gotten worse as time progresses.
A. Hi
The teeth can drift causing this problem if there is an underlying problem with your bite or if the teeth are loose due to gum disease. It sounds like you need to see a dentist specialising in this sort of problem, perhaps an orthodontist, or periodontist if the gums are involved. If you would like further help please contact me at the practice and we will be happy to help you

Q. Hello, i have one front tooth longer than the other and was advised if got a brace it would drop back down again in time, i was advised that i could get a slice of the longer tooth so my two front teeth would be level and my dentist would build it up with veneer, do you think would this cause sensitivity or discolouring in time? Any advice greatfully received Thank you.
A. I would have the brace option. The tooth will not move down again if you have permanent retention on the back of the tooth to hold it in place. If you are not keen on having braces then a veneer is definately an option. You will have to have some tooth shaved down and the preparation should be kept within enamel. There shouldn’t be sensitivity if this is the case and you normally wouldn’t get any staining

Q. i have a slight under bite.can i have veneers?
A. Yes you can but you need to go to a cosmetic that dentist that has experience in placing veneers. One way to tell is to ask to see a portfolio and ask what kind of training the dentist has had.
