Is There a Less Expensive Alternative for Braces?

Wednesday, March 11th, 2015
Q.

Hello. I had braces two years ago for 6 months. When they took off the mould for the retainer my gums were swollen so it never properly fitted. I went back to the dentist and they sent off another referral for me. I waited 10 months to get an appointment and they said that it is visible that my teeth have moved back but apparently the NHS don’t like offering free orthodontic treatment twice. I know the prices are a lot if I choose to go private, is there a less expensive alternative I could go for?

How Can I Fix a Slight Gap Between My Teeth?

Tuesday, November 4th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I had braces for two and a half years and they have been off now for six years. I wear my retainer every night. But on my front two teeth, if I put my nail between them, there is a very slight gap. This bothers me because it seems they are not as tightly together as they once were. I don’t want the gap to get bigger and I don’t want braces again! But it isn’t that bad. I mean it is very small, but it matters to me. Why would this happen? What can I do to fix it? I know I need a new retainer made but will that fix it? Thank you.

What are the Differences Between Clearstep and Invisalign?

Tuesday, September 16th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. I was wondering if you would please give me your thoughts on the differences between Clearstep and Invisalign? From what I understand of both treatments, one is American and the other is British. I have had a consultation with a dentist who uses Clearstep, with his main reason being that he feels there is more flexibility with Clearstep in terms of being able to have moulds re-created and retainers updated if your teeth don’t move as the computer predicts, and this is not the case with Invisalign? Would you agree with this, and which do you prefer out of the two? Thank you in advance.

I Had Braces When I Was Younger But Now My Teeth Have Relapsed. I Would Really Like Clear Braces. What’s My Next Step?

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I’d like your help and advice if it’s possible. I had fixed braces when I was younger and I felt that the treatment was rushed and I never had them on long enough as they said I should they never take any of my teeth out. I don’t feel like I was told the important information regarding retainers and such. I would wear the plastic braces for rest of my life and to come back when they get tight etc. It’s getting me down and I’ve lost confidence in smiling. Can you give me some advice on where I can go next? Thank you.

One Of My Lateral Incisors Is Not Quite In Line. Will I Need Clear Aligners To Straighten This?

Friday, May 16th, 2014
Q.

I have recently had a treatment with the Inman Aligner. At the moment I am wearing my removable retainer – I was told I should wear it for 3 months and then will be fitted a permanent one.
One of my lateral incisors is not quite in line and I wanted my teeth perfectly straight. I spoke to my dentist about this and he said he can reshape my tooth so it will appear straight. But after I have been wearing my retainer for 2 weeks my other lateral incisor moved about 1 mm and is slightly behind my central incisor. How disappointing. I am starting to regret ever having the treatment.
My dentist said if this is a problem for me he can refer me to another orthodontist so I can get fixed braces. But I assume, this means I would be paying for the treatment all over again? Can you please help me and advise what are my options if the problem won`t be rectified by my dentist? I heard people getting clear aligner to tweak their teeth but my dentist isn`t suggesting this to me. Obviously I am not willing to pay for fixed braces, once I have paid for the Inman Aligner already.

When I Stopped Wearing My Retainer And Now My Teeth Are Starting To Relapse. Is There Any Other Way Of Straightening Teeth?

Friday, December 20th, 2013
Q.

I have had a standard metal brace for a year then I got rid of it. They then gave me a clear retainer mould of my teeth to wear every night. I wore the retainer for the first couple of months then I started to wear it less frequently until I came to the point when I did not wear it at all. During this time period, my teeth started to move again, the gaps began to return and now my teeth are straight, however I still have small gaps. I went back to my orthodontist and they have said wear the retainer everyday and I am going to do that but I am worried my teeth will return with gaps. My next appointment is in a month so I am going to trial this idea. I would like to know is there any other treatment that can straighten your teeth?

Do You Need Braces If You Only Have A Little Bit Of An Overbite?

Monday, December 2nd, 2013
Q.

Do you need braces if you only have a little bit of overbite? My top four teeth are covering my four bottom teeth just a tiny bit so would I need braces? Would I need braces on my top teeth and my bottom teeth or just the top teeth or the bottom teeth? Also my four bottom teeth are a tiny bit crooked as well, would I need braces for that? What kind of health issues are caused by overcrowding? Thank you, I know I have a lot of questions, but any information you can provide me with would be a great help.

I’ve Wanted To Straighten My Teeth For A Long Time. Which Discreet Braces Are Most Suitable?

Friday, November 8th, 2013
Q.

Hi. I’ve wanted to straighten my front
teeth for a long time as one slightly crosses over the other.
However I wanted a brace fitted for the shortest possible time and something clear so no one can tell I’m wearing one.
Which type of brace would you recommend?
I’ve looked at lingual and simpli5 but I’m unsure as to whether either would
be suitable as my front teeth cross at the bottom. Many thanks, it’s much appreciated.

Hello Doctor. My Sister Needs Braces Before Her Wedding. She Wants Ones Which Are Less Visible. What Treatment Would You Recommend?

Tuesday, October 29th, 2013
Q.

Hello Doctor, hope you are well! I’m writing to you to know about treatment for overcrowded teeth for my sister (27 years old). She does not want to opt for metal braces as they are visible and will not give her a good look for her wedding.

Please suggest what procedure will be best for her and which is less painful, giving her better look as well.

How long would treatment go and how frequently would she need to see doctor once treatment commences. If you have any details of cost of treatment, that’ll be of great help to plan! Awaiting your response.

Cheers.

Can I get cheap and fast orthodontic treatment?

Monday, July 22nd, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Patel,

I am 19 years old and a full time student, I had braces when I was 16 for 16 months. After my treatment I had removable retainers which I had to put on for 6 months and then asked to wear every night after that. However, my bottom teeth started to move slightly and now 3 years on my front teeth have come forward a lot more and my wisdom teeth are soon to be visible. So basically I was just wondering if I could have some sort of inexpensive treatment (since I would have to pay now) where my teeth are very straight and afterwards have a fixed retainer which would keep my teeth straight always? Any suggestions? I am lacking confidence because every time I try to smile or look in the mirror or even bite together since I can feel my upper and lower teeth touch each other.
