What Can We Do to Save Our Child’s Teeth?

Tuesday, November 1st, 2016
Q.

My 7 year old daughter has gone to the private dentist with me regularly since she was a baby. I was told one day that she had decay and needed 2 small fillings. We dramatically changed her diet, reduced her sugar intake and tried harder when brushing her teeth. On a visit to an NHS dentist (we were referred by our own dentist as she had an abscess, which they said meant the tooth had to be extracted). The new dentist advised that most of her teeth were decayed (or decaying) and that she would have trouble all of her life and could lose lots of her teeth! We were horrified – should our dentist have helped us more and/or advised us so much sooner? Also, what can we do to improve the situation now please?
thank you.

I’ve Just Moved And My Son Isn’t Registered. He Has Toothache, Do I Have To Wait Till They Are Open, Or Is There Any Thing I Can Do Now?

Wednesday, April 9th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. My son is 5 years old and is not registered with a dentist as we have not long recently moved. And the past couple of days he has been complaining/crying with toothache. I have been giving him children’s paracetamol but it seems to be getting worse. His school looked in his mouth and said his tooth was growing in the back but when I’ve looked in his mouth and the tooth is a bit black and it looks like it’s got a hole in. Is there anything I could do at this time or will I have to wait till when all the dentist are open? Thank you for your time.

I Have A Young Son Who Has A Front Tooth Set To Come Through But The Gap Isn’t Big Enough. What Should I Do?

Thursday, October 3rd, 2013
Q.

My son is 9 years old. His front right tooth has not come through yet and he has had the left one for about a year now. You can see the lump in his gum where his tooth is. I’m worried it may never come through. There isn’t a enough room for it. Should he not have a brace to make space. When he had his baby teeth he had an extra tooth between his front tooth and incisor was on the same side. Should I be worried about this or given his age will it sort itself out in due time? I could really use some help with this.

How Frequently Should My Daughter’s Unerupted Tooth Be Pulled Down After Surgery?

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013
Q.

Hi my daughter who is 10 years old has an issue with her teeth. After going to see a dentist, we discovered that the the case is basically that her central incisor maxillary never erupted. When I got told about ti I was quite worried but I was assured the correct treatment plan could be put into place. When they did x-rays it showed up as being really really high, they put an expander in her mouth but that did not help so she had a surgery for her unerupted central maxillary, her gum was open and they placed a brace on the tooth, closed the gum and attached with a chain to the braces wired. How frequently should the Orthodontics specialists pull the chain to bring to tooth down?

Thanks.
