I hv gum disease and gappy teeth due to bulimia Plz advice

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Q. hi, i suffered with bulimia for 5 years and have not made myself sick for almost 4 years now, as a result i have now got gum diesese and have gaps inbetween my teeth, i also have clear patches on my 2 front top teeth and have a large white patch which my parents were told was because i had too much calcium as a child, im 28 and am now very insecure about my teeth and would like to know whats the best option for me?

A. You would need to consult a dentist for a full check up and x-rays so that they can make sure your teeth are healthy. From there you can book in with a cosmetic dentist to see what can be done aesthetically.

do i need vitamin D supplemnts before a dental implant

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Q. I don’t think I have gum disease but I do have receding gums hence exposing roots, I clean and floss my teeth twice a day and very parnoid about them which I have been for most of my life (I am a month off 60 years old) Typically never took care of my teeth as a youngster but certainly from my late twenties I have done my best to keep what teeth I have. Now I believe I will lose my back crown because of the root exposure which is causing me some pain. If I have the crown and root removed because the recession is so bad will I be able to have an implant in that area? I have recently had a bone density scan which indicated that I need Calcium and Vitamin D supplements

A. hi many thanks for your enquiry, even with the recession it may still be possible to place a dental implant, it just depends on how much bone is left and of what quality. My best advice would be to see an implantologist to check the bone levels around the tooth before it is extracted to discuss what options are available to you.

hope this is helpful.

calcium deficiency caused my teeth to rot and break

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Q. when i was younger i suffered from a calcium deficiency, where my body didnt absorb calcium easily, and after that my teeth has started to rot and break, i went to the dentist and the replace sum filing etc, now sum feeling have come out, and im considering veneers as im very self conscious about my teeth, would you be able to tell me a rough price of getting veneers?

A. Most Veneers cost from £198 NHS to £700 privately £300-500 per veneer is typical.
You would need to control any existing rot before stating and the reduce the future risk of new problems.

If the enamel surface is very poor ( due to calcium deficiency) veneers may not bond to the tooth. This needs to be assessed. If veneers are not suitable crowns would be a similar cost.
