Is it safe to use stannous fluoride rinse?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr. Moore, I was hoping you could answer a question for me. In your opinion is it safe to use a .1% stannous fluoride rinse on porcelain crowns and composite fillings? I was recently sold some stannous fluoride by my dentist, but have since seen information on the internet that says it is not advised for porcelain restorations. Thank you!,

Is the soring of pink tissue after having braces considered normal?

Sunday, October 11th, 2009
Q.
My 12 year old son has had braces about two months and he just got bands crisscrossed on the front top teeth to close a gap. The teeth have come together rather quickly but should they be closing on the pink piece of tissue that was between his teeth. It is very sore and puffy. And noticeable! His ortho told him to use baking soda and peroxide with a rubber tip to help push the tissue upwards out of the way. How can his teeth close with tissue in between? So far the pink flesh has not budged. Is this a normal process?

My mouth looks like a sharp mouth can you advice me a fix?

Sunday, October 4th, 2009
Q.
Hi there… I wasnt sure who of the experts to put this question to… so i chose at random! I am deeply shocked to discover that despite regularly visiting a dentist for the last 5 years who never mentioned my gums – I have severe periodontal disease. Although i brushed and flossed regularly i never looked closely into my mouth and assumed the shifting teeth were merely getting overcrowded by my wisdom. Now I have moved to a new dentist and have been informed I have ‘massive’ bone loss and had a proper look at my now twisted bottom teeth which look twice as long as they should. It looks and feels terrible. uncomfortable. and the wider health implications! two curettage have done a lot to improve the health of my gums and my periodontist – i go to Poland because i cannot afford the uk at present says she is much more optimistic about the future of my teeth than she was at first, she was shocked. i am only 35. I understand that slowing and stopping the disease is my priorit of course. however i wonder IF and when this is achieved… if anthing can be done to improve the discomfort and the cosmetic appearance with gum grafting and bone etc… i have tried to research and get confusing information which says different things.. also the different dentists i have seen have been vague and contradictory to each other. any advice you may be able to give on this matter would be greatly appreciated. my mouth looks like a sharks mouth.. must it stay this way forever? many thanks

Why is there dark staining on teeth inspite of adhering to oral hygiene standards?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009
Q.
Since moving back to New Zealand 2 years ago I now suffer from dark staining on my teeth.I have not drunk tea or coffee for over 25 years , no red wine either.I do drink cammomile or peppermint tea. I use a good electric tooth brush & brush for over 2 mins twice per day & floss at night, my husband can attest to my oral hygeine standards, I used to nurse in the dental department of my training hospital.I am dairy & gluten free. Could it be something in our water? We have filtered on the fridge but not for the kettle on the main tap? We only used filtered water in the UK . Your advice would be appreciated as my dentist is at aloss to the cause, I see him every six months and the problem is getting worse between visits. With kind regards
