What is the most likely procedure for a broken tooth?

Thursday, April 8th, 2010
Q.
I had an accident where i fell into a brick wall and smashed my face – breaking my front tooth in half in the process! With it being th eEaster bank hoiday i have had to go to an emergency detist who has temporarily dressed it until my regular one is open on Tuesday. The two teeth eith side of the damaged tooth are now very sensitive and one appears wobbly. They did an x-ray and said that the roots were not damaged. Please can you tell me what the most likely proceedure will be as i have never had to have any work done before and im very apprihensive?,

Friday, April 2nd, 2010
Q.
I had a tooth pulled that broke off, after the tooth was dug out and I returned home I noticed the hole looked white and I could suck air thru the hole. I had the dentist look at it and he did a graft, well the graft didn’t work. I went back last week I asked him to pack it before he stitched it he said no and cut it and stitched it together. Well he removed the stitches today and i can still suck air thru it. What can I do to get this taken care of it has been almost 2 years since the original tooth, I have gotten serious sinus infections and dont know where to turn. Can you offer any advise?,

How often do titanium posts break?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010
Q.
About 2 years ago, I had a crown on one of my front tooth. It had a titanium post as a part of the buildup. About a year after, I noticed that the tooth was getting loose. I complained to the doctor and was told that it looked like the root was getting loose. …about a month ago the tooth had broken. Upon an examination, it was determined that the root was fine, but the titanium post was broken. My question is: assuming titanium posts a very durable, how often do they break, if ever. Thank You, Mark,
A.
It is rare but they can break

I would like porcelain crowns on the NHS, please help.

Monday, March 29th, 2010
Q.
I am 45 and 10 weeks pregnant, I have a broken tooth which has previously had root canal work and been advised that I need all my crowns renewed (9 in total)I have been quoted £5k and have asked for NHS work. The dentist advised me that NHS do not provide porcelain crowns. Please advise me how I retain a “real teeth” look without having to adopt 9 lumps of metal in my mouth. My preference is porcelain crowns but anything remotely white will do. Please help me find an affordable option to my problem.,

What protective mouth guards are there for contact sport?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010
Q.
My 13 year old daughter had an accident where she fell and received a severe trauma on her front teeth. She had a root fracture on one of her teeth which required to put a post on it before having a crown put on and her other tooth was not lost but half of her tooth broke and another crown was used. She has been in Taekwondoo since she was 7 years old. I dont want her to give up this sport she loves so much, but my concern is that since it is a contact sport what protection in terms of mouth guards would be recommended for this kind of situation. Can any possible mouth guard offer some level of protection in her case and in the sport she is in. How strong are these crowns?,

Would getting artificial bone help with stability of teeth?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Q.
Hello I had teeth taken out in error by a dentist when I was 12 years old. The top two wisdom teeth were never there. I fractured one molar ice skating so now I have no upper molars on the left hand side of the jaw. I am aware that there is little bone. Could you please let me know of the advantages of own versus artificial bone especially in terms of endurance and stability, I play a lot of sports including skiing etc where falls are possible. Do you have patients who have had artificial bone more than 5 years ago and how is the bone and implant fairing. Many thanks I have been wanting to go ahead and have the implants for a while and would welcome the advice.,
