The Tooth Which Anchors My Bridge Has Worn Away. Is There Anything That Can Be Done To Preserve The Entire Bridge?

Friday, July 25th, 2014
Q.

Hi Marcus. I have a lower 3 tooth bridge. I have had it in place for over 20 years now and it recently became loose on one side. I had a recent X-ray and my dentist told me that the molar which is anchoring it in has lost a lot of tooth structure. This tooth already has a root canal on it. He said by the X-ray it looks like too much tooth has been lost and recommends leaving one tooth of the bridge in place and removing the other 3 crowns of the bridge as well as the molar that has decayed away. Have you ever seen this situation and is there anything else that can be done to preserve entire bridge? Thank you.

Hi, I Have Two Dental Implants Which Are Crumbling And Need To Come Out. What Should I Do?

Friday, November 1st, 2013
Q.

Dear Dr Shaffie. I hope you can help me. I currently have two dental implants on the back lower teeth which are crumbling and need to come out. I really do not want to go through implants again as they are costly and the bridge I was told that I would have to have to have needs something going behind my lower teeth in order to connect and hold the bridge in place. Is there anything else I could have as an alternative? I am nervous that the material of the bridge would bother me and I would feel it constantly. Can they make something like a small denture to snap on is there, is there such a thing? Thank you.

How viable will my bridge be if it is attached to a cracked molar?

Friday, March 18th, 2011
Q.

My last lower molar is cracked through and I have a missing molar next to it. I have been advised to have a bridge to attach to the cracked molar with a pontic to bridge the gap and the bridge to attach to the next tooth in which has been filled twice. Is it likely that the bridge will be viable and give longevity given the fact that the anchor molar is cracked?
