My Bottom Tooth Is Slightly Further Back Than The Rest Of My Teeth. Is There Anything That Can Move This Forward?

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014
Q.

My bottom front tooth is slightly further back than the rest of my teeth and I was wondering if there is and procedure or technique that can be used to push it forward? I would rather not have braces as it’s only one tooth that needs to move and I am very happy with the rest of my teeth; although one of my top front teeth slightly overlaps the other. My top teeth really don’t bother me as much as the bottom one. I’m 21 and would like the least painful most cost effective treatment possible. Would a spring retainer be useful in this situation?

I Have Had Braces In The Past And My Bottom Jaw Has Come Forward. Will This Continue To Grow Out?

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I have a problem that I hope you can help me with. I have a reverse overjet of just over 2mm and I am 20 years of age. I want to solve this but I don’t want to get braces again. What do I do? I had braces before and 2 teeth were removed from my upper row and afterwards my teeth were left straight on top rather than in front so over time my bottom jaw has grown and come over. Will this continue to grow too? Are there any other solutions to this problem? Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you.

I’ve Not Looked After My Teeth. A Couple Of Teeth Are Rotten And Wonky. Should I Have Them All Removed And Replaced?

Thursday, August 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello Marcus.

Okay so I’m in a pretty bad situation.

I’ve unfortunately not been taking care of my teeth for a number of years and due to this I have now got a couple of teeth that have worn/rotten themselves down inside my gums.
Alongside this I have pretty wonky teeth. So inside of my mouth is a disaster.

Am I correct in thinking I have 2 options. Remove the bad teeth through the NHS and then pay for a brace to straighten the rest or take them all out and get a nice shiny set of new teeth?

Part 2 of my question would be asking you how much this would cost. Am I liable to get this done for free as a 24 year old, unemployed graduate? Hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you.

I Have A Problem With My Crown. Could I Remove The Tooth And Use Braces To Fill The Gap In?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I’ve had a crown for 3 years but although it looks fine I have a problem with it not being real. I’m very good at cleaning and have to floss as it does get food caught and smells even hours later. I have all 32 teeth and this is a lower molar. I wondered is it possible to remove the crown/tooth completely and then have a brace and move the upper molar and wisdom teeth down in that place? Firstly is it possible? Then I’d have no crown to worry about! Please help getting me depressed. Thanks.

I Had A Tooth Removed And Braces For 2/3 Years. Now, Whenever I Smile, It Doesn’t Look Normal. What Can Be Done?

Thursday, August 14th, 2014
Q.

Hello there! I am currently a student and for probably 8 years of my life I have had a lot of dental care due to having an extra tooth on top of my front tooth which prevented my front tooth to come down. This resulted to having an operation to remove the extra tooth which meant that the original front tooth was knocked out of the pathway. The dentist then attached a gold chain to that front tooth and pulled the tooth down over the course of 2/3 years. This is when I received braces for a good 2/3 years. This resulted to my gum being extended after the tooth came down so when I smile it doesn’t look normal at all. I wanted to have veneers done but I wanted to know how much it would be overall to sort out my gum and replace my tooth because it is still slanted. Thank you very much!

Hi. I Would Like To Know Which Treatments Are Capable Of Broadening My Smile?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I wanted to ask you if you know of any other ways to broaden my smile . I have already paid £3000 for braces, where my orthodontist decided to pull 2 of my teeth out from my upper mouth, when I specifically said I want my mouth broadened. It was still very much concave when I had them taken off and my bottom teeth are still a mess. I’ve had veneers on but my back teeth are still shadowed. You can probably see 6 teeth at the most and my teeth are still very small even with the veneers. I am very self conscious and I still hate having pictures. Is there anything that can be done?

I Am A Teacher And I Lack Confidence As My Teeth Have Gaps Between Them? Which Treatment Should I Be Looking Into?

Friday, August 1st, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I am 23 years old and the problem is my front teeth. They are coming out a little front and there are gaps between the teeth. Every day they seem to be coming out even further. I am in the profession of teaching which isn’t good because I lack confidence in my teeth. I have consulted my family doctor and he suggested for me to consider clip treatment which takes nearly 2 years, but at this age I am not interested in that treatment. Could you please suggest to me any other form of treatment for this problem other than clip treatment. Waiting for your answer, thank you.

My Gums Have Receded And Now My Front Bottom Teeth Are Wobbly. Do You Think I Have Gum Disease?

Thursday, July 31st, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Patel. I think I have gum disease. My gums have receded and now my front bottom 2 teeth have become wobbly. One is more lose than the other. Will my teeth fall out? Or can anything be done as I’m only 18 and I’m really worried. I had braces for about 3 years or just under but the dentist never said anything and I’m really scared about losing my teeth. Will my dentist have to take my teeth out? I can’t walk around without teeth. Please help me, this has really bothered me. Thank you for your time.

The Shape Of My Face Seems To Have Gotten Slimmer Whilst I’ve Had Braces. Is This Normal?

Thursday, July 31st, 2014
Q.

Hello. If I was to get braces, would it make my face thinner and less chubbier or make my upper lip bigger? I’ve had braces for the last 1.5 years with no extraction. I had them as my canines made me look like Dracula. I have noticed that the shape of my face has changed quite a lot. Is this because of the braces? Before I had a chubbier face but it’s become thinner. Will my face get back to normal? I miss the structure and shape of my face before I had braces. Thank you for your time. I look forward to your advice.

Could You Tell Me Whether My Son’s Orthodontist Has Given The Right Course Of Action?

Tuesday, July 29th, 2014
Q.

Hello. My 14 year old son has a lot of overcrowding, which requires 3 teeth removed, his upper k9 teeth are very high up in the gums, and to complicate things further, he has one upper front tooth missing and currently wears a denture plate. His orthodontist has suggested braces for 2 and a half years, and pulling the teeth next to his missing tooth into the gap, and after braces are off capping the tooth that was next to the missing front tooth to make it look like a front tooth, and capping the k9 to make it look like the tooth that has become the front tooth, but doing this will leave my son unable to wear a denture and live with a gap and then a small tooth in the gap until its capped after the 2 and a half years, is this the only way to deal with this problem? Could braces not be used to straighten the teeth but leave a gap for him to continue to wear a denture and then at the end of the treatment to straighten, the denture be replaced by an implant? My son is devastated by the prospect of revealing that he has a false tooth to his peers. Regards.
