I Have Been Quoted £3500 For Braces, Is This Correct?

Friday, July 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi, my teeth are really crooked and because of this my nhs dentist has advised I’d have to go private for braces. I have a number of problems with my teeth. For example, my mouth is overcrowded and I have another wisdom tooth coming through. Chewing is a nightmare, I don’t smile and my teeth cause me to have low self esteem and confidence about myself. I saw a private dentist who advised me about receiving clear step and a extraction of the wisdom tooth would cost £3500. Is there a cheaper way to achieve this please? This is unaffordable to me, can I get normal metal braces that I should have had when I was young? Can you please tell me how I can go about getting help with finance in order to receive this needed treatment?

I Sucked My Thumb Until The Age Of 12, What’s The Cheapest Way I Can Get My Teeth Fixed?

Wednesday, June 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi Andrew. I am writing to you in order to seek some advice. I am very embarrassed to admit that I sucked my thumb day and night from being a baby to age 12. Now my teeth are crooked and arched and I am regularly told that I have “vampire teeth” because my canines stick out. I have lost a lot of confidence because of this and cannot smile in pictures. I am a teenager and have been refused help by my dentist because the problem is cosmetic. Please can you advise me on the best procedures for my case and hopefully, cheap ones also, preferably due to my current situation with money. I would also like to know if my teeth will gradually set straight again over time as well? Or would this only come about with the help of brace treatment for example?Thank you for taking your time to read this in advance.

Can I Afford Invisible Braces On Job Seekers Allowance?

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr. Patel, I am 20 years old and receiving income based job seekers allowance . If I was to get invisible braces, how much would that cost? I’ve had braces before when I was at school and they were free of charge. However, my wisdom teeth have come out and I’ve been told from my dentist that I’ll have to have them removed due to not enough room. So therefore, because of my wisdom teeth growing, they’ve pushed the rest of my teeth slight forward, so I’m thinking of getting braces again so I can have straight teeth. Anything you can suggest will be helpful, thanks in advance

Can My Niece Get Braces On The NHS For Free?

Thursday, January 31st, 2013
Q.

My niece is 31 years old and is in receipt of income support. She is stunning but is very conscious of her very crooked teeth. Would she be entitled to a brace on the nhs as her problem is making her really unhappy. She has always worked but only part time but now has a young daughter and this is the first time she has ever claimed benefits. .
She is becoming more and more conscious and paranoid that people are looking at her. She is not the most confident person in the world and never ever smiles when having photos taken as she won’t let anyone see her teeth. I personally think it is now affecting her mental state and there is nothing that we can say to her to boost her confidence. She has always looked after her teeth and they are brilliant white although she does only attend a dentist when it is absolutely necessary. She currently wears a tooth shield as she has been experiencing severe pain but shows no signs of having any actual dental problem so has had to have this made as they think it is caused by clenching her teeth together or by grinding them. Please try to help us to make her smile her beautiful smile like she used to do when she was young and carefree

What is the best brace used to treat crooked bottom teeth and overlapping front teeth?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I have a problem with my teeth; they are very crooked on the bottom and the front two teeth overlap and one sticks right out, which gives the front 4 teeth the in/ out effect and this is due to only one front tooth falling out as a child and not giving enough room for the other to grow. I am wondering what the best treatment available is and what would be involved as well as an estimate cost, how long am i likely to wear braces? thank you for your time.

Is it right that I have to pay £1000 for a brace that is needed for just one tooth?

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I had some holes filled in my front teeth when I was 18 during which my dentist moved my tooth out of place when drilling my tooth was left in a slanted position and has been this way for the past 8 years my teeth no longer fit together and it wobbles slightly it also rubs on my bottom lip when I close my mouth, I have lost all my confidence I have seen many dentists and they say there is space for it to go back in position and I have been told it may cost £1000 + for just the one tooth to be straightened even though it was a dentist that put me in this position in the first place do I need full braces just for one tooth, I am currently unemployed due to my lack of confidence. thanks for your time.

My teeth are gappy after braces treatment because I stopped wearing retainers. What do you advise?

Monday, July 30th, 2012
Q.

I’m 16 and I had braces about 2 years ago and wore my retainers and then stopped wearing them as I lost them and buying new ones was at an expensive price and my teeth are now gappy at the top (My bottom teeth are still very straight). I have a gap between my front teeth of about half of 1mm and I would really like to get braces again on the NHS as I really do not like the look of my top teeth (but I cannot afford to pay a lot of money) and wondered if getting braces again would be possible or if there were some way to close my front two teeth again without paying alot of money I would really grateful. Thank you

Is it possible to fix the gaps in my teeth?

Thursday, June 7th, 2012
Q.

Hello I wondered if you could give me some advice. I have gaps between every one of my teeth. Is this considered unattractive? and should I get it fixed? I’m 20 years old and worried I have left it too late to fix it, I don’t really want to have braces as an adult 🙁 and also worry about the cost. My teeth have never really bothered me but when I smile on pictures they look horrible. Other than the gaps they are straight though.

Would I be able to have two sets of braces from two different orthodonists, one private, one NHS?

Thursday, April 7th, 2011
Q.

Hello,
I am hoping to get NHS braces on my lower teeth (I am under 18) and six month smile braces for the upper teeth at the same time, but at different practices. Would the orthodontist object to this, and is it likely that they will insist that I complete one treatment first before starting the other?
Thanks in advance.

What can you suggest for someone who needs braces, has very little money and cannot recieve them on the NHS?

Thursday, April 7th, 2011
Q.

I have a number of problems with my teeth, I have a tooth that is set back from the rest of my teeth and my top teeth overlap my bottom teeth. I feel that I need braces or some form of teeth straightening. The issue is that I am 24, nearly 25 years old so I would probably have to pay for treatment and as I am currently in reciept of benefits I wouldn’t be able to afford. I am desperate to have my teeth straightened though as they have affected my confidence for most of my life. Please could you give me some advice?
