I would like to have a bonding to fix the gap inbetween my front teeth can i get it done in NHS?

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009
Q. Hi, I am under 18 years of age, and I have a gap in between my teeth; this maybe due to the piece of skin attatched in between it, I believe its called a frenum or frenulum. I would like to have bonding to fix the gap, would this be free under the NHS? And if I was to have the piece of skin cut if I decide not to have bonding, will this get rid of my gap? Thankyou

A. Removing the skin will help to prevent the gap re-occurring but will not cause spontaneous closure.
Bonding between the teeth should be available on the NHS, I would recommend you seek someone with some cosmetic training to give you the best results possible.

How does one manages the fear of losing a veneer, crown or bonding while having a meeting

Thursday, July 16th, 2009
Q. This is with regard to the loss of confidence. How does one manages the fear of losing a veneer, crown or bonding while having a meeting or doing an important presentation? Will there be tell-tale signs before a veneer, crown or bonding falls out? The fear to eat in case of damaging the veneer, crown and bonding also affects quality of life. Can you provide your thoughts and reassurance please? Thank you.

A. I can’t really tell you not to worry because these things can happen, albeit only rarely. My advice would be to eat normally but avoid sticky or crunchy foods on your front teeth especially just before an important meeting/occasion. Once you’ve had them a while your confidence will build and i’m sure you’ll feel happier

i seems to have lost the enamel on my teeth and it looks grey. what treatment would help

Monday, July 6th, 2009
Q. I am 51 and since having my daughter at the age of 30, I seem to have lost the enamel on my teeth. I hate having photos taken as my teeth look grey. What treatment would help. I don’t want to smile anymore.

A. Proper diagnosis of why you have worn is essential.  Following this the usual type of treatments given are bonding , veneers or crowns

Over the past few months my teeth are becoming very thin looking can i get it fixed it NHS

Monday, July 6th, 2009
Q. My teeth have over the past few months become very thin looking and almost transparent looking and people have mentioned they look this way. I was wondering if anything could be done about this and how much it would likely cost at an NHS dentist.

A. Your thin teeth ar due to either acid erosion or a physical wear problem. The dagnosis needs to be made first.  Following this bonding, venering or corwning may be required .

My daughter starting the ortho treatment will moving the teeth causes the bonding to crack

Friday, July 3rd, 2009
Q. My daughter is 13 years old 4years ago she fell roller skating and had a type 3 fracture on her top front teeth. They have both had a root canal and have been bonded, We are starting ortho treatment to a severe overbite and protruding front teeth. And crowding My question is will moving the teeth in treatment cause the bonding to crack or cause root resorption? The ortho Dr has been doing this for 27 years he knows its a special case and even is taken precautions by putting brackets on the front tooth for more stregnth. We have been through so much and do not need anymore to worry about. She starts headgear next week I am just afraid those 2 front teeth will crack or fall out Any advise?

A. It sounds like the orthodontist has a lot of experience and should be able to keep an eye on the teeth as the treatment progresses, it sounds like the orthodontic traetment is necessary not just for cosmetic reasons and will help reduce the likelyhood of trauma to the front teeth in the future.

My dentist dropped some glue called pamp bond for my bridges is this a proper glue to secure it

Sunday, June 28th, 2009
Q. Dr Moore, I am having major dental bridge construction to both left and right front teeth. 6 teeth to right and 5 to left sides. My dentist dropped some glue called Pamp Bond into my mouth and a 1 inch piece got lodged into back of my mouth. The glue is also foul tasting. Is this glue a proper glue for use to secure the temporary bridge. I am concerned for my health.

A. There is no cause for alarm, the cement is actually call Temp Bond and is used routinely in dentistry for temporary restorations and is very safe to use.

My front teeth have gaps and i was wondering if inman aligner or 6 month smile would work

Sunday, June 28th, 2009
Q. Hi their I am wondering what treatment is best for me to get. My front upper 6 teeth have gaps between each tooth between 1-2mm each as a result have having 2 back teeth removed as a child my teeth seperated apart. I have never required any work done to my teeth since 16 and have been advised against removing healthy teeth for veneers. I work in a cosmetic industry and wearing braces is not an option. I was wondering if inman aligner or 6 month smile would work given my gaps are over 6 teeth. Thanks

A. I don’t think an Inman would work but 6-moth smile might. You might also consider bonding resin for the gaps or minimal preparation veneers to a great overal look

Im training to be a dental nurse can u tell the purpose and types of bonding agents

Friday, June 26th, 2009
Q. I am currently training to be a dental nurse, and one of my assignments is about retorations, one of the questions is asking the purpose and types of bonding agents, please could you help me answer the question. Thank you

A. Bonding agents are used to bond composite resin to teeth to seal the teeth. You should look on the manufacturers website such as Dentsply for all the technical information

My front teeth was bonded to close the gap should the surface of the bonded teeth feel rough

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009
Q. I have a gap between my two front teeth, they were bonded on 6/20/09 to close the Gap somewhat, leaving a small gap.Question: 1) should you be able to see where my teeth was bonded? I can see where the bonding meets my teeth on one of my tooth. 2)Should the surface of my now bonded teeth feel rough?

A. It sounds like the bonding filling needs polishing, pop back to your dentist and ask them to take a look

The corner of one of my teeth has broken off should i have bonding or crown

Monday, June 22nd, 2009
Q. Hi. Please can you advise me on whether I should have a crown or try bonding first… The corner of one of my teeth has broken off – it is on the bottom set, the second double tooth from back (I only have 4 double teeth each side). I had a lot of pain eating on it and my dentist presumed there was a crack but couldn’t find it, so replaced my filling in the hope it would help. Two weeks later part of it has fallen off. I have been given the option of having the corner rebuilt (with same material as used for fillings I think), but dentist cannot determine how strong this would be and whether it would last as these are my main chewing teeth. The price for that would be around £100, or he has suggested a porcelain crown at £500. (I would not consider the gold option as it would be visible). Obviously that is a lot of money which I don’t really want to spend. Would you advise me to try the bonding first or just go straight for the crown? with thanks

A. Bonding for a back tooth will only last a very short amount of time and can fall off pretty easily when biting, that is why a crown is usually the best option

I have large gap between my two front teeth what treatment would you suggest to correct it

Friday, June 19th, 2009
Q. I wore braces years ago to straighten and close the large gap between my two front teeth. my teeth stayed straight but my gap ahs re-opened. i decided to have two larger veneers fitted to close the gap- the gap has since got bigger- leaving me with a 3mm gap. what treatment would u suggest for correcting this problem of the gap?? thankyou regards

A. You’ll need a brace again probably then some form of permanent retainer such as a bonded retainer to stopp the gap opening again.  Regards Andrew

i have vertical crack on my 18 molar is efficacy of bonded and nonbonded amalgam be an alternative

Friday, June 19th, 2009
Q. My dentist said I have a vertical crack on my #18 molar. It runs from the top to the gumline down the middle on the back of the tooth. I don’t feel any pain. Sometimes I feel sensitivity when I chew something. I don’t like the idea of a root canal and crown and I did research and found this article: EFFICACY OF BONDED AND NONBONDED AMALGAM IN THE TREATMENT OF TEETH WITH INCOMPLETE FRACTURES Would this be an alternative. It seems like it would entail less removal of material if a dentist could just used an adhesive bonded restorative material like amalgam or other metal.

A. The extent and therefore assesment of the fracture is critical. The procedure is also very tecnique sensitive.
When it works its great but it is far from being a universal answer.

I am from liverpool and i have a gap in my two front teeth how much would it cost me to fix it

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Q. Hey, I have a gap in my two front teeth at the top. && it makes me really self conscious. I am from Liverpool, UK && I want to know how much it would be and what i would have to do to get it fixed. I had a brace but it just went back to the way it was originally. Thanks

A. You could opt for a treatment called bonding. This is very non-invasive and is a fraction of the price of veneers. Not every case is suitable though as it depends on the size of your teeth and the gap.

I recommend you book in wioth a cosmetic dentsit to explore your options.

can composite bonding be removed easily and will the underlying tooth look normal?

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Q. I had a small 1mm gap in my upper two front teeth filled with composite bonding a year ago. The results are great, and it looks really natural. However, I have recently decided to investigate braces as I have come to the conclusion that i would like to straighten my teeth. With this in mind, i would like my dentist to remove the composite bonding, so that a brace can be used to close the gap permanently. First, can composite bonding be removed easily? My dentist did the filling so well, it seems impossible to tell which is tooth and which is bonding? So, is it possible to remove it? And will the underlying tooth look normal? Also, when the filling was done, the bonding was polished and i can see a less shiny surface on some of the surface of my teeth. I will ask the dentist to polish this after the gap is revealed again, but If some bonding remains, does this effect how well fixed brace brackets would stay on? Also, when the brackets are removed at the end of treatment, would the bonding have stained, is this permanent, or would polising after the brackets are removed get rid of it? Thank you for your time.

A. Hi
it should be quite easy to remove the composite filling without any underlying teeth being damaged with no effect on bonding in future and no compromise to your bracework.

what could a dentist do to fill the small triangular gap between my to front teeth

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Q. I have a small triangular gap between my to front teeth and I think it looks very unattractive. What could a dentist do to fill the small hole? I have read articles on the internet about bondings and fillings but I don’t really know what they are. Also if the gap was to be filled, would the use of a needle or braces be needed? Thanks in Advance.

A. Hi
if the triangular gap is because of the gum position this can be tricky to fix, if it is related to the shape of the teeth bonding could improve it.it is usually possible to do bonding without local anaesthetic

I have a gap between my front teeth do lumineers work for this and how much do i need to pay

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Q. I have a gap between my front teeth which i really hate! Do lumineers work for this? Roughly how much would i be expecting to pay? Thanks

A.

Lumineers could be an option. Bonding and veneers are also options and it would depend on the size of the gap which is best fopr your case. Bonding would be the cheapest solution at apprx £200 per tooth. For nice aesthetic lumineers and veneers on average they cost around £895 per tooth

I recommend you book in with a cosmetic dentist to get a quote for the various different options.

why do you think my dentist was so rude to me regarding the suspicious dark spot on my teeth

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q. Hi, I left my former dentist after she refused to bond a gap between my front teeth. She said that the hole was too large and by bonding it, my teeth would look extra big. I respected her decision but still wanted the gap bonded. I went to another dentist who bonded the gap, and started going to him regularly for a year. This dentist told me that I had a suspicious dark spot on my dental x-ray and referred me to an endodontics. Instead of seeing the endodontist, I went back to my former dentist and he was really rude to me. He told me that if I went to another dentist he would not see me again. Plus, while he was treating me, he hurt my mouth over and over again and when I would flinch or moan be told me that I was over reacting and that everything hurt me! This made me angry but I did not say anything. I kept thinking that as soon as I get out of this chair, I won’t come back! Why do you think he was so rude to me? Was it not my decision to seek another dentist after he would not bond my gap. By the way, the bonding looks great! Thanks

A. I am sorry you had such a bad experience my advice would be to find a dentist you trust and feel comfortable with.  I am glad your happy with the bonding.

is it true that dental hygenist should use instruments pastes technique to clean bonded teeth

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q. I had my 2 front teeth bonded (for a small space and a little chip on one front tooth) a year ago and was told it doesn’t need any special care and can be cleaned normally by the dental hygenist every 6 months (which it has been), but I have recently read (online) that a dental hygenist should use different instruments/pastes/techniques when cleaning bonded teeth in order not to damage the bonding. Is this true? I actually have noticed less shine on my bonding (I can see where the bonding is when looking in a ceratin light) and wondered about the cause and what can be done about it. Also, I was wondering, is there more of a chance a cavity can form around a bonded tooth? I would really appreciate information about all this, thanks!

A. Gentle cleaning by the hygenist is important so as not to roughen the filling surface.  Careful flossing by you is important because the unnaturally wide tooth will have an increased chance of food trapping.  This can cause localised gum disease and decay if left
