I had an external sinus lift bone graft carried out in Spain two months ago in my upper jaw, in preparation for an implant. Graft material, I’m not sure what, in the form of white granules was packed into the cavity drilled into the existing bone, and a dissolvable membrane placed over the top.
I have suffered a dull toothache type pain in the area of the graft ever since.
On a number of occasions I had loose graft particles removed as they were causing some pain.
I have had three courses of antibiotics. Two of penicillin and one of Rhodogil. Only Rhodogil gave some temporary relief.
I am being advised that the graft will probably have to be removed as antibiotics have proved ineffective.
Is there a time limit for removal of graft? Is it a difficult procedure, and could your practice assist, if necessary?

At the back, where the pain is, it looks white as if there is a tooth about to emerge. When closing my mouth it feels like there is something hard in the way. Also my cheek is slightly swollen. Monday, September 1st, 2014Hi Dr Gambroudes, I have had a swollen gum infection for about 3 months now, which I think is due to a cut on the gum which has now healed. The top tooth where I cut it was hurting. I went to the dentist who did an X-ray and couldn’t find any problems. About a month later I went back and they just put antiseptic gel on it. I went to the doctors and got antibiotics but it didn’t work. I have had a deep cleaning done but the gum is still swollen and I keep getting flu. I have tried different mouthwashes, salt water, vitamin C tablets and so on but nothing is working. What else can I do? Would the gum need to be cut to get the infection out? Thanks.

Wednesday, May 14th, 2014Hello Dr Moore. I had an upper right tooth snap off several weeks ago. It caused me no pain at the time, however in the last few days it has and is causing me serious pain and extreme facial swelling. My GP has prescribed antibiotics but the pain remains regardless. What can I take to try to relieve it? When I have finished the antibiotics do I go to a dentist or hospital? There are still remnants of the tooth in the gum but the pain is awful. I have very little funds and need to know where to turn. Thank you for your reply in advance.

Monday, May 12th, 2014Hi Dr Hughes. I am having terrible trouble with my gums receding. It started about 10 years ago but with dental treatment it stopped at a level I could cope with but in the last few months it has started up again and now I would say my gums have receded from every tooth and worse of all this morning my top two teeth now have a small gap between them. I am currently on anti-biotics. I have been reading up on gum graphs but is this possible for such a large area? This is badly affecting my life now as I am losing my self-confidence in public and I hate to smile. I hope you can advise me on what to do? Thank you for your time.

Monday, February 17th, 2014I have had problems with the one front incisor tooth since October. I flossed one time at night and I pulled the floss too hard and my gum started to bleed. I didn’t think anything of it but then after that the tooth has been hurting. I’m not sure how long the gum has been swollen but it has slight swelling near that tooth, nowhere else and the swelling has been the same. It also has a lot of pressure there, is sensitive to hot and cold and the gum used to be very irritated, which has only just calmed down now after trying different mouthwashes. I have been to the dentist a number of times and she did an X-ray but couldn’t find anything. I first thought that it was just a swollen gum due to a cut I had on the gum but the cut healed. I have also taken antibiotics twice from the doctor because I was getting constant flu like symptoms since October. I recently went to the dentist again and explained that the problem could be due to a cracked tooth, as food was getting in there causing my gum to swell, which she just put some filling on. She said she didn’t understand why I was getting all these symptoms and she didn’t think the gum was swollen due to the fact that it looked pink and it looked normal but when I feel the other parts of my gums, they feel normal except for this one. She didn’t even do another X-ray just to see if anything had changed since I last had the X-ray. I am worried that it may be pulpitis, as I have read that the symptoms are the same as I’ve been getting. Do you think it could be pulpitis especially since the problem has been there since October?

Monday, February 10th, 2014Hi, in October, I flossed and my gum was bleeding because I pulled the floss out too hard. The next day, the tooth started hurting. A month after, I went to the dentist, as it wasn’t getting any better. She did an x-ray and said my teeth were fine but just had some tartar build up so I booked an appointment to get a deep cleaning but had to wait 2 months. In the meantime my tooth was still causing me problems and my gum was feeling irritated all the time. I tried rinsing with salt water, corsodyl mouthwash, mouthwash with tea tree oil and clove oil, and so on but nothing was working. I went back to the dentist and she said she didn’t realise that I had a cut on the gum and also may have food stuck under the gum and the gum was swollen but not red and I had been eating on that side. She said she couldn’t see any decay and just put some antiseptic cream on the gum and told me to rinse with salt water. Since having this problem, I have also been getting the flu a lot. I went to the doctor who gave me flucloxacillin. I had my teeth cleaned in January and told her my gum was swollen but she didn’t think it was and said it looked like I had a scab on the gum and it looked like it was healing. The cut has healed but the gum is still swollen and I have had flu again. It is really worrying me because I know I have an infection and the dentist won’t do anything. What else can I do and does the gum need to be cut to get rid of the infection, as nothing else seems to be working? Thanks.

I have had a severe pain in my wisdom tooth for 3 days now, it is making it very hard to get to sleep and its now keeping me awake at night. It’s more painful when trying to eat or drink anything and when eating my tooth keeps breaking away. I have tried painkillers and there not touching the pain. I noticed today that my tooth is growing through the gum but is breaking once it comes through the gum, Half of the tooth is missing and the other half still remains in the gum. I’m in agony and it’s giving me pain all the way down the right side of my face and teeth. What can I do as my dentist isn’t open?

I have just lost an upper post crown which I have had for around 15 years or so, the tooth had been loose, and I couldn’t get an appointment with my dentist for a whole week, I have since had an infection in the gum resulting in the need for antibiotics. I have been told by my dentist that the remaining tooth {I think it’s the root} needs to be removed. What would the general cost be to have a tooth fitted on a plate? I am at the minute undecided whether or not to just leave the gap. Thank you, your answer would really help me out as I’m unsure what to do.
