I Think I May Need Composite Bonding As I Grind My Teeth At Night. Is It The Right Option?

Thursday, October 17th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Shaffie, I am 17 years of age. I am interested in White fillings with composite bonding. If I decide on having this done to my teeth how long does it last, does it wear off in time? Also does it blend in with the colour of your teeth? A few of my teeth have worn down due to grinding my teeth at night and want to know if this method is suitable for my teeth. Also, I want to know how much will it cost because I am hoping to do it to all of my teeth as I am very insure about them whenever I smile. Does this method still work if you have gaps in your teeth and does it cover these gaps? Thank you.

I Want To Close The Gaps In My Teeth, What’s The Cheapest Way For Me To Do This?

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013
Q.

I can email you a clear picture of my teeth. I want to close my gaps and also change my fillings to white.
Please can i email you a picture for a quote? I have about 10 fillings and I have 4 gaps at the front. I am 29 years old. My dentist told me when I was 9 that the gap would close naturally, when I asked for a brace, but it never closed. I can’t afford hundreds of pounds of treatment so I am looking for the easiest and cheapest option available to me.

My Fillings Have Stained My Tooth, What Can Be Done?

Monday, March 25th, 2013
Q.

Hi there,

I have two very large amalgam fillings in my first molar (?!) on ether side of my top row of teeth and they have stained what little remaining tooth I have left a horrible grey/black colour. When I first had them done I didn’t realise they were going to be so far forward and visible in my mouth (4th tooth along from centre on either side). Every time I smile and even speak they are visible and I absolutely hate them. They have ruined my confidence and I have seen my dentist about replacing them but he says they are too large and even more of the tooth would have to be removed. I guess he is right but after years and years I just want to be able to smile properly without covering my mouth!

What options are available to me please?

Thank you.

Should I Have my Tooth Taken Out Or Just Replace The Filling

Friday, January 18th, 2013
Q.

Hi In short I have had medical problems over the last 14 years which all started weeks after having an amalgam filling done. I have spoken to Dentists and been reffered to many differant departmants of health and they have said my problems may be because of my amalgam but they can not garantee, I understand this Issue but am still going to get my filling removed. I have looked into extractions & composite fillings but am wary of dentist who use differant ways of extraction & BPA bondings. I am sensative to chemicals, how can I get the least toxic fillings to replace the ones I have ( silver amalgam), can biocompatible test be done be for & what about porcalins, I am very serious about this could you please advise what may help me.

Is there ever a need to place an amalgam filling in the lingual fossa of a later incisor which is a pontic?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Is there ever a need to place an amalgam filling in the lingual fossa of a later incisor which is a pontic because this was done for me by my dentist when I complained of pain in that area?

Also I was told by another dentist that i would have to remove my bridge to get to the root of my pain problem in the area of my bridge as nothing came up on the x-ray. If I was to have my bridge removed, considering my abutment teeth on either side have had enamel removed in preparation for my first bridge, would it be possible to use them for anchoring teeth if a new bridge was to be placed?

Thank you in advance for your help. It is highly appreciated.

I have a pain in my tooth after having old metal filling replaced with a new white one.

Q.

Hi I am running into a dental nightmare with a tooth and feeling i need some answers from someone i would trust that i am doing the right thing!
Not enough space on this box!
3 months pain and over 10 visit to dentist!
Long story short. Had old filling replaced with a white one, next day pain round the gum on eating not on bitting. went back Said food impation as the filling was made less proud for better care of the tooth and now the gum aggrivated. lots of mouth care flossing etc Progressed to filling been re shaped to previous style to stop some of the impaction, still no help to shooting pain when food hit the gum. Pain slowly got worse to traveling along my jaw and waking me up at night. Xray showed nothing. Given anitbiotics. then filling taken out and packed. Pain still in the jaw so he went for the root as could see no other possible cause! only to find 2 roots, left for a week and just had another look for Root number 3 which he cant find but now informs me i have a crack and now need a crown! But cant do a crown until he knows if i need to see a specialist for root number 3 and in the mean time i may crack my tooth and loose the whole thing!!! Is it important to find the last root or for some people is there never one???? Not sure if to pay to see specialist before my tooth splits or sit and wait for a few months as has been suggested!
My gut feeling is i had gum infection as it never has caused any pain in impaction or bitting hard and maybe antibiotics may have stopped it getting into the roots. Any addvice much appreciated!

My dentist is only offering me an amalgam filling, couldn’t I have a white one instead?

Friday, June 24th, 2011
Q.

Hello
I recently visited a dentist who has advised me I need an amalgam filling replaced and refilled using the same material, I asked her about white composite fillingsand she reluctantley said she could do it but said it would not be strong enough in my root filled back tooth – I donot agree with her in this asI have done some research and usin amalgam is highly toxic etc. This lady is an NHS dentist will she be properly trained in inserting composite fillings?
She also reluctantly polished 2 of my teeth as she said the others were fine lthough in the £17 paid it does say you are entitled to a tooth polish, afterwards I was not even offered a mouth swill! I have therefore lost my confidence in going back for the appointment for treatment and am in a dilemma as to what to do.
I would appreciate some advice from you please.
Many thanks

Is it a straight forward procedure to replace amalgam fillings with composite fillings?

Friday, April 8th, 2011
Q.

Hi Andrew,

My question is about replacing amalgam fillings with composite and whether it is a fairly straightforward process or could it lead to complications? Are composite fillings long lasting?

Thank you for answering.

Shall I replace my amalgam fillings with white composite fillings?

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Verma,

I recently visited a new dentist. I had many amalgam fillings as a child (more than 18 years ago), and have had no recent problems with them. My new dentist has suggested I replace them all over time with white fillings.

I understand that the old filling my “leak” after time, but my xrays apparently show no evidence of decay and I don’t suffer with toothache. I’m not bothered about the cosmetic side of things- so long as the filling is doing its job, I’m happy.

Would you advise replacing the fillings?

Thank you for your time.

Can you advise me of where I can get white fillings instead of metals ones and the costs associated with these?
