I Am 17 Years Old And I’m Wondering If I’m A Suitable Candidate For Dental Implants?

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes,

I am 17 years old and have two congenitally missing lateral incisors. I underwent orthodontic treatment and received a bridge on the NHS. I was extremely unhappy with this bridge as it was very conspicuous and unnatural looking. I then switched dentists where I received a much more natural looking bridge but I am still not entirely happy with it. I was wondering whether I am a suitable candidate for dental implants. My current dentist suggests that from my X-rays that I am not as the available gum space is too small, from what I can remember it measured roughly 3mm on the left and 3.5mm on the right. It would be great to get your advice on this. Thank you!

I’m 17 And I Need Braces To Fix My Crooked Teeth. Can I Get Them For Free Through The NHS?

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I’m 17 years old and I really need braces because my teeth are rather crooked and bent. Will I still get braces under the NHS for free? Or will I have to pay? The orthodontist where I live says that they only do free braces for patients 16 years old and under, does this mean I will have to pay? And it says on the NHS they cover you till your 18 years old? How many appointments will it take to actually get the braces? Thank you.

My Teeth Have Straightened Up But Now They’re Causing Me Discomfort. Am I Eligible For Treatment On The NHS?

Wednesday, August 28th, 2013
Q.

When I was about 13 several of my bottom teeth began to cross over and I was refused braces by the orthodontist, my tooth then cut my bottom lip and was causing me discomfort so I was referred to a dental hospital where I was refused braces again. I left my teeth and my bottom one’s because they no longer bother me as they can’t be seen when I smile. I used to have a big gap between my top front teeth but last year they all straightened up and my gap closed up, but I worried they would overlap but my dentist said they wouldn’t. I’m 17 now and recently my second to front tooth has gone crooked and slipped behind my front tooth and is aching and causing me discomfort and making me self-concious, I feel it will push my front tooth forward, also my teeth don’t close together properly, am I still eligible for a brace or even a retainer on the NHS?

I’m Seventeen And Wore Braces But My Teeth Have Gone back To Their Original Place.

Monday, August 19th, 2013
Q.

I’m a 17 year old girl who has previously wore braces but unfortunately my two front teeth went back to their horrible place and ever since I’ve started having difficulties even smiling so whenever I go into public places I cover my mouth with shame and embarrassment. I worry that I’ll always have this problem and I’d just like to know if there is any hope for me. I just want to fix my two front teeth and wonder how much it will be as I can’t afford to get braces again. Can cosmetic dentistry help me put my front teeth back even a small amount so I can close my mouth without struggling?

I Have To Wear My Retainer To Hide The Gap In My Smile – What Are My Options?

Wednesday, August 7th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I have been self conscious about my teeth for almost all my life as I have a small gap between my teeth. I did have braces for a year and a bit however my gap never really closed although it did reduce in size. I still think about it and it effects my confidence. I wear my retainer whenever I go out in public as I am so embarrassed and quite aware of how it looks. My teeth are also quite small which I hate. I use my retainer, which gives the illusion of closed straight teeth and a full smile. However it has been about 4 years and I don’t want this problem to hinder me for the rest of my life. What can I do? I’m 17 years old and in need of your advice.

I’m 17, I Cannot Get Free Braces, What Should I Do About My Gappy Teeth?

Thursday, July 25th, 2013
Q.

I’m am a 17 year old boy who lives in England. I’m a full time student. i was offered braces a fee years ago but i had never wanted braces but looking back I wish I did, my top teeth are very gappy but my bottoms ones are fine (maybe a bit crowded) but I am happy with them. My top teeth are not bent, twisted and they are all in good condition but just gapped all the way along. What i would like to know is what alternatives do I have without the look of braces. I’ve heard about Invisalign but I think it will be to expensive for me, my price range will be in the region of under £3,000. Also is there any chance of getting any treatment with the NHS? If braces were still free on the NHS I may consider them.
