Should I have a tooth extraction or the root canal treatment?

Q. Hi i have had several fillings performed on one of my molar teeth in the last 6 months (the last a deep filling) and have recently had an abcess. My dentist gave me a course of antibiotics and gave me the option of a root canal or extraction. However he stated that the prognosis wouldn’t be good if a root canal was was performed. I don’t really want to lose any of my teeth and feel that i have been ill advised. Having read loads of literature on root canals it appears to have a high success rate. Plus at the age of 30 would the rest of my teeth shift if iwas to go-ahead with a tooth extraction.,
A. Perhaps ask for a second opinion as root canal treatment has an 80% success rate over 10 years or so
