Should I Get a Silver or Porcelain Crown?
Q.
I have been told by my dentist I need a crown on one of my molars at the bottom. I cannot decide whether to have the silver NHS one a or porcelain one. What price are they usually? Why can’t the dentist do a filling instead of doing a crown? There is a small amount of tooth left. Which in your opinion is the strongest crown? Do dentists do the porcelain crown under the NHS or not? I believe I hope you can help me.

Hi many thanks for your email. If there is not a lot of tooth tissue remaining then a crown is the most protective solution. The NHS usually provide a metal crown and if you want a porcelain crown for aesthetics, this is usually provided on a private basis by the dentist. The cost of a private crown is approximately £400-700. Kind regards, Kailesh.
