I Want A Full Set Of ‘Silver’ Teeth. What Would The Best Way To Achieve This? Would Implants Work For This?

June 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello. For a while I have wanted to get a full set of ‘silver’ teeth. I know other alloys are mainly used such as palladium. I just want them to appear silver. I know it will cost a lot but was wondering what the best way to do it would be. Whether it be a full set of crowns or to remove my current teeth and replaced with implants.

I do have a full set of healthy teeth (one missing), however I have always wanted this done and would like to know the best way before I commit to spending my money and changing my permanent appearance.

Also where would I be able to receive such a thing?

Many thanks.

My Daughter’s Teeth Are Rotten Through The Medication She Takes. Would The NHS Provide Her With Veneers?

June 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. My daughter has been on medication since she was born. The medicine has made her teeth rotten. She is now 14 and hasn’t got any confidence. Would it be possible to get her veneers on the NHS? The medication she is on is sodium picosulphate and movicol in the past she has been on lactulose and various other medicines. It is very embarrassing for her she got no friends because she won’t mix? What other options do we have? Any advice you could provide us with would really be helpful.

My Partner’s Tooth Has A Slight Turn In It. Do You Know What Procedure We Need To Consider In Order To Fix This?

June 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. My partner is wanting new teeth as he isn’t very confident with his own teeth. We are wanting to know some options he could take to improve his teeth and a price it would cost for the procedures? He has all of his teeth except one from the back which he had taken out through pain and his front tooth has a slight turn in it. Do you know anywhere we could get this type of treatment also? Thank you.

Could You Tell Me Which Crowns Are Stronger: Gold Or Porcelain?

June 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew, I’d like your advice. I was wondering if you could please tell me if gold crowns are stronger than porcelain ones and is it possible to request them with an NHS dentist? I have been told by a private dentist that gold would be best but they are very expensive. I have large fillings in my back molar teeth already and they do need crowning and I don’t mind them being gold if that is the strongest material to use as I don’t think they will affect my smile. Do you think they would have an effect on how my smile would look? Thank you in advance for your reply.

My Tooth Is Rotten And Wobbly. Should I Get This Seen To Straight Away Or Wait Till After My Daughter’s Wedding?

June 24th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. My back tooth is rotten and half fell out years ago. It caused me no discomfort for a long time but now the other half is wobbly and is making me very uncomfortable. What do I do? My daughter is getting married in 2 days and I don’t want to be in pain for that day. The tooth can’t be pulled as I was told a while back my gums need to be cut to get it out. Should I leave it and hope it doesn’t fall out and cause more pain or do I go dentist now? Thanks.

I Currently Have A Set Of Plastic Dentures Which I’d Like Replaced. I’m Unaware Of What Is Available. Could You Tell Me How Much It Would Cost?

June 24th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore,

I have a set of 3 false teeth at the front of my mouth (top set). And also I have one to the left side and one at the very back on the right side. I currently have the standard dentures with all the plastic which I really hate and I’d like to have this replaced with something else but unsure of what is available. What would you recommend and also what sort of cost would I be looking at if I had them replaced with something else? Thank you for your time and helpful advice in advance.

Is It Possible To Have A Two Unit Bridge By Using A Small Molar As Support? I Have A Missing Tooth.

June 24th, 2014
Q.

Dear Dentist. I have a missing tooth with a (hopefully) healthy small molar on one side of the gap and an old crown that I would not like to be fiddled with on the other side of the gap.
Is it possible to have a two unit bridge to fill this gap by using just the small molar as support? I do not like the sound of a Maryland Bridge but would a Cantilever Bridge be possible in my case?

Thank you very much for any information you may have.

I’ve Had Epilepsy The Last 12 Years And My Teeth Have Fallen Out. Would I Get Implants On The NHS Due To My Condition?

June 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi. I have been on medication for epilepsy for the past 12 years. Over the years my medication as changed to cope with my epilepsy but this has caused my teeth to go bad and fall out. I am a 34 year old man with 3 children and it’s getting to the point where my kids don’t want to be seen outside with me. I have been offered dentures but I am scared that if I have them put in and the dentures are loose that I could choke. When the doctor told me I had epilepsy, all my dreams and all the hard work disappeared. Do you know whether the NHS would provide me with implants due to my condition?

My Veneer Has Been In Place For 18 Years. Do You Know Of Any Way To Brighten It Up?

June 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I could do with some advice as I don’t have a great amount of knowledge on current cosmetic dental treatments and I’m not too aware of what is available. Can you please let me know how I can brighten up my veneer on my front tooth? This has been in place for the last 18 years and it’s starting to look a little bit dingy. How long is a veneer supposed to last? Would tooth whitening help me with this problem? Thank you for your time.

I Had A Cyst And I May Be Left With A Gap After Surgery. Will The NHS Sort This Out As It’s A Result Of An Operation?

June 23rd, 2014
Q.

My NHS dentist noticed that a couple of my front teeth appeared to be coming loose so they did an X-ray and found something on the X-ray and referred me to hospital. The consultant at hospital thought it was a cyst and arranged for a biopsy. The results of the biopsy confirmed that it was a cyst – apparently the sort that has a one in three chance of coming back (it has drained a lot since the biopsy). So I have been referred somewhere else for an operation. I may lose a couple of teeth and/or need a plate in my jaw! If after all the surgery I am left with a gap in my front lower teeth will I have to pay to have something done myself with my dentist or would the NHS sort it out because it happened as the result of an operation. I am a bit unclear if I will just be left with a gap. Thank you for any advice.
