How Much Does Teeth Whitening Cost?

November 14th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I am looking to whiten my teeth, how much would that cost? My teeth are quite yellow and they are embarrassing. I don’t ever smile because I don’t want anyone to see them. I’m looking to whiten all my teeth so I am able to show them off to everyone. I have 2 or 3 broken teeth and it hurts when I brush them. I need advice please. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I hope that you’ll be able to answer my question and give me some advice. Thank you.

My Veneers Keep Breaking and Crumbling. Is This Normal?

November 14th, 2014
Q.

I recently had composite veneers on my top front teeth 6 in total and want them redone by a different dentist in January, as they don’t look right. The colour is completely off and the surface is very uneven. Is this normal? They have also broken off and crumbled twice and I’ve had to go back. The first time I tapped one when I drank from a cup and it literally disintegrated – surely this isn’t normal? They are also not straight and two teeth are now wobbly with gaps, which I didn’t have before, and I have healthy gums.Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer.

My Filling Has Come Out and My Tooth is Broken. Is This an Emergency?

November 13th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. My (I think it’s called a canine tooth, it’s 3rd tooth from the front to the left) has had a filling on it from when it broke in half about two years ago. The filling has come out, and I’m left with half a tooth again. Is this counted as an emergency? Or will I have to wait two weeks as that’s the only date they can see me? I don’t have any real pain but I am finding it very hard to eat and my tooth feels funny a lot of the time. Thank you in advance.

I Have Severe Toothache and Swelling Behind the Teeth. What Should I Do?

November 5th, 2014
Q.

Hi there Dr Hughes. I’m wondering if you can help me with the problem I am currently facing. At the moment, my central incisor and lateral incisor are really painful. I can feel the pain throughout my whole mouth, it’s that bad. I even have a bit of swelling behind my central and lateral teeth. Please tell me what I should do to prevent this pain, and is it something serious? I have been experiencing the pain for the past three days but today is the worst of all. Thank you.

What Treatments are Best for Enamel Damage?

November 4th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I’m quite sick and have suffered with bulimia on and off for the past year, being sick every few months.
My teeth feel strong and are still white, but I’m aware of enamel damage that can occur among other problems.
If my teeth are damaged, what treatment is available in cosmetic dentistry? And what is the price guide for treatments offered to patients like this?

Any advice would be so appreciated as I am starting to worry. Best wishes and thank you in advance.

Does Jaw Surgery Cause Permanent Numbness?

November 4th, 2014
Q.

Hey Marcus. I’m interested in jaw surgery as I’ve noticed that I have a slight overbite and a very small chin, so my chin and nose do not look in symmetry. I’m interested in jaw surgery but the fact that one of the risk is numbness or permanent numbness is scaring me! I’m 17 so can you please throw some light about the risk of permanent numbness, and if it’s common or rare? I have very low self esteem as I am starting to notice it more, even though when I tell my friends they say they can’t notice it. It just puts me down, my facial profile is not balanced and although I am grateful that I’m not in physical harm, I would like to know what you could do to sort this problem out! Thank you.

How Can I Fix a Slight Gap Between My Teeth?

November 4th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I had braces for two and a half years and they have been off now for six years. I wear my retainer every night. But on my front two teeth, if I put my nail between them, there is a very slight gap. This bothers me because it seems they are not as tightly together as they once were. I don’t want the gap to get bigger and I don’t want braces again! But it isn’t that bad. I mean it is very small, but it matters to me. Why would this happen? What can I do to fix it? I know I need a new retainer made but will that fix it? Thank you.

What’s the Most Natural, Non-Invasive Way to Close a Gap Between the Teeth?

October 30th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I had braces before, but had them removed. During my treatment, my dentist had stripped between my from front two teeth as it was bigger than the next tooth. But after the removal, we felt that although the gap was filled, the bonding between the teeth is still not complete. I mean there is a small surface gap still visible.  I am worried about it and want to fix it in the most natural, non-invasive way possible. Kindly help, thank you.

Do I Need Dental Surgery to Correct My Protruding, Gapped Teeth?

October 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi, Dr Hughes. My age is 24, and I am male. My upper incisors are not straight, they protrude forward. There is also gap between my incisor and my canine. What can be done to correct it? Is there any dental surgery? Also, I have one doubt in my mind. My grandmother died from oral cancer, will surgery affect any prospect of developing cancer of the mouth?
Can I wear braces at my age? In my childhood I wore braces, at that time there was lot of improvement but it has become embarrassing again now. What would be the correct treatment for me?

My 3-Year Old’s Teeth are Damaged. Will Cosmetic Dentistry Help?

October 30th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I’ve taken my three year old to the dentist.  His three front teeth are badly damaged, and the front two are corroded in the middle from poor dental care on my part, and drinking from bottled milk and fruit juices I’ve been told nothing can be done to fix them,  but is there anything he could get done cosmetically to cover this damage? Maybe filling it in or caps? Although all I can to is prevent the damage from getting worse, I don’t want my son to have to go through school or nursery with this and feel self conscious because of my mistakes. Thank you.
