Q. My 9 year old daughter has stains on her front teeth. How can this be removed?,
A. The staining may be superficial- and a simple trip to the dentist can get rid of this. Alternatively, it could be the first signs of decay if they are brown spots etc. I would recommend that you visit the dentist with your daughter for a check up and to discuss how to brush etc. You may want to explain to your daughter about going to the dentist and what to expoect if she hasn’t already been before.

Q. I have had one of my front teeth removed 2 months ago. My dentist had a plate made up for me which makes me sick every time I where it. I have been informed by my dentist that I cannot have a bridge made because the front tooth that remains is a crown with a metal post and the remaining bone where the other tooth was has been effected? I would like to have a second opinion on this as I cannot go about any longer with a missing front tooth (It is driving me mad),
A. Please make an appointment at my practice where I will be able to give you your options

Q. Hi Dr. Moore, My name is Joseph and i am a 16 year old male with a class 3 under bite and slight crowding on my bottom teeth. Ive had my top braces for 3 months now and my bottoms for a week and i cant stand them at all. In fact I really really dislike them and I cant see myself with braces for 2 more years. Obviously i have read about
Invisalign and i have been wondering if
invisalign can correct my under bite( class 3). I have talked to my parents about this and when i proposed my plan they told me to look into it and find out. My plan consited taking off my horrid braces and wearing
invisalign to straighten my teeth and either wear bands attached to the
invisalign brackets or wear some sort of head gear at night to slowly push my lower jaw back. I also thought about wearing
invisalign until my teeth are perfectly straight and then at that point do jaw surgery to correct my jaw alignment. I understand that these “options” of mine are quite abstract but i wanted to hear your opinion on these proposals. In addition i would appreciate it if you could provide me another way i can fix my under bite without braces that you know of.,
A. A class 3 bite is very difficult to correct, I’m not sure Invislaign is the right answer for you but perhaps you should seek advice and a consultation from a dentist with extensive invislaign experience as they may have been able to help patients like you.

Q. Are
dental implants or bridges necessary at all in order to replace a single missing tooth?,
A. Seems an odd question, but you can function with nothing just a gap. Other problems may occur but they are not life threatening. Many single tooth gaps at the back of the mouth are left unrestored. Most single tooth gaps at the front of the mouth are restored. Rob

Q. I have nearly finished treatment for an implant. However the way my gum was cut to place the implant means I have a v shaped gap in my gum, so the crown will not follow my normal gum line – the first one they tried had pink coloured porcelain at the top, (about 1/2 cm) which didn’t match my gum! It looks terrible. Can anything be done about this?,
A. The dentist could try and match the pink porcelain a bit better so that it blends in with your natural gum colour. This can be quite tricky as porcelain texture mimicks teeth really well, but not gum. The only other problem is that other materials tend not to bond very well to porcelain. Another option is to have a soft tissue graft- taking gum away from another inconspicuous area of your mouth and attatching it to the area. This IS a surgical procedure and can be quite unpredictable. The only other option, is to accept it the way it is. Hope this info has helped.

Q. I had braces, wich straightened my teeth & fixed overbite/buck teeth, when I was 13-15yrs. I am now 32, and my top-front teeth are slowing looking buck-tooth again ; also by bottom jaw as moved back (just like before I got braces) so that it looks like my chin is disappearing. What are my options for correcting these issue, and what is the approximate cost?,
A. Relapse of orthodontic cases is common and is usually treated with new ortho followed by fixed retainers. Our usual fee for this is £3300

Q. Gaps between the teeth are one of the reasons for
bad breath. Is this true?,
A. Bad breath- also known as halitosis is caused by many factors: 1. strong foods with odour- garlic, onions, curry etc 2. bad oral hygiene- ie not brushing and flossing regularly 3. Smoking 4. Not regularly drinking water to hydrate the oral cavity and wash away any food debris 5. Food trapping through poor fitting restorations (fillings and crowns etc) To avoid any bad breathe you need to improve your oral hygiene and see the dentist and hygienist regularly.

Q. I am registered at a private dentist and currently have a Maternity Exemption. I thought all my routine check ups and hygienic treatments should be free while my Exemption card still valid but my dentist said that the hygienic treatments are not free even with the NHS exemption. The thing is they don’t do the hygienic treatment in one go but asked me to do it in 4 visits and that means I have to pay 4 times. Is that right for them to do that? Many thanks,
A. If it is a private practice then you still have to pay, most Hygienist treatments are paid for privately as well but it depends on the practice

Q. I am suffuring from mouth smell and bad breeth plz anser me how can i get good breath,
A. hi make sure you are brushing twice aday as well as using a tongue scraper on your tongue, also make sure you are flossing and any untreated cavities within your mouth ar erepaired as these often trap bacteria. it is also advisable if you have not attended a dentist in a while to have the teeth cleaned

Q. hi rob. i have 2 23 year old crowns that the gum has receeded back and looks terrible, i visited one dentist who recomended a 5 tooth bridge conected to two healthy teeth…..i had a second oppinion who said to wait for the crowns to fall out and then replace the crowns due to weak roots…….now im frightened to do anything……cannot smile and miserable…please advise,
A. Find a dentist who will simulate your treatment on a set of plaster casts ( study model wax ups ) and maybe a photo simulation too. At the StJohns Dental practice in Birmingham we offer a free initial consultation for cosmetic cases. If you proceed to a full written case assesment with photos, study casts , wax ups and a detailed quote we charge £200 Call Amy on 0121 643 0610 for details or follow the weblink from CDG. Rob

Q. Hi I have had the 6 month smile braces fitted and I am currently at month 7 of treatment. I had the braces fitted as my upper right and left lateral teeth were slightly crossing over my front two teeh. By month 4, this was straightened out, but my front right tooth had began to come forward slightly. The dentist adjusted my brackets and said this should be solved within a month. It is now three months later and this problem is getting worse, my front right tooth is now visibly protruding and slightly crossing over my front left tooth. I think my upper lateral teeth have now been pushed too far back and this is causing the front right tooth to push forward – please help! im at the stage where i just want to ask the dentist to remove the brace and veneer my teeth instead.,
A. Firstly, I can understand how distressed you feel. I don’t quite understand how th front tooth can stick out more now- as the wire moves the teeth into alignment- unless one of the ligatures (bands) around the brackets had come off without you realising. If you are in any doubt about the progress of your treatment, you are in your own rights to get a 2nd opinion from another dentist/orthodontist. I don’t recommend that you get a veneer- instaed, perservere with the braces as this is the best long term option for when your teeth have aligned. You do need to wear a retainer after your treatment has completed to stop your teeth from moving back. Good luck

Q. i have three crowns fitted and would like to replace them with impants. Can it be done same day and how much will it cost.,
A. It is possible to replace them with
dental implants if the bone and the bite is suitable. You will probably need provisional crowns before the final new crowns are made and fitted to the implants.

Q. Hello, I have narrow teeth, which makes my smile very gappy I have been told by a dentist, that I need to have my teeth cosmetically filled in, could you please tell me the average cost per tooth. Many thanks,
A. hi it really all depends on how much you want the end result to be towards perfection. firstly your cost will be determined by whether you want a composite material or a porcelain. porcelain is better looking and wearing.it also depends if you are having composite bonding or veneers. composite bonding can cost upto 150 per tooth ,whereas veneers can cost betwwen 475 -600 per tooth. if you want an idea of how things will look before anything is attempted you may want a cosmetic wax up which will cost about 30- 50 per tooth

Q. Hi, My Teeth are in a pritty bad condition since I was a child, I do go to the dentist and had lots of fillings, fillings also in my front teeth at the top but they become discoloured and i get them replaced but it doesnt look good, I lost my smile a long time ago and as the years has passed by they seem to be getting worse dispite im trying to look after them the best i can all the time, i no longer smile showing my teeth anymore and have lost alot of confidence, i won’t even aply for jobs im intrested in because of my smile. I have mentioned whitening in the past to my dentist before i new anything about veneers but he explained that whitening would not work cause of all the fillings i have there, so now i have read all about veneers do you think it would be a option for me, my bottom front teeth are fine so would they just need whitening, my top two front teeth have slightly gone crocked (because of the drilling n fillings there i think) would i need additional treatment on them or would veneers help that. Big problem i have is that i will only go to my dentist as I no he’s seen all my teeth before, im so ashamed to go to a different dentist to get advise or treatment, u may not beable to answer any of my questions as you have not seen them but I felt it was worth a try in asking for your advice anyway, thanks for your time,
A. Thanks for your questions, although it is impossible to say for definite without a consultation, it sounds like veneers could be a solution for you. As they can be used to improve the size, shape and colour of you teeth, to create a more aesthetically pleasing smile. I would recommend that you discuss this option with your existing dentist, or consider a free intial consultation with a cosmetic dentist to plan the treatment and discuss the costs and repayment plans. I hope this will help, I wish you well with regaining your confidence. Kindest Regards. Dr Kailesh Solanki
