Is a Bridge Covered in Band 3 NHS Prices?

April 30th, 2015
Q.

Hi, I have two teeth that need extracting and had asked my NHS dentist about having a fixed brace. I felt as though she was trying to sell me implants at a cost of £2000 each. She also advised that a bridge would cost about £1500. She did mention partial dentures, although I don’t feel this would be the right treatment for me. I had thought a bridge was covered in band 3 NHS prices? Can you advise please?

Can I Have Implants Fitted Privately and Then a Bridge and Crowns on the NHS?

April 29th, 2015
Q.

Dear doctor. I have no teeth in the upper jaw and only 5 teeth in the lower jaw. I am unemployed and have been told that I can get a bridge and crowns on the NHS. Would I be able to have implants fitted privately and allow the NHS to fit the bridge and crowns? My parents are willing to help me with the cost of just the implants. Please help me as I have trouble wearing dentures. And I also have quite a few medical conditions. Thank you.

How Much Risk is Involved in Reshaping Overlapped Teeth?

April 29th, 2015
Q.

I went for a consultation for reshaping overlapped teeth. We discussed the braces option and C-Fast, but I don’t want to go through that. The cons were discussed. I would have to remove a lot of enamel and the dentist might hit a nerve that they can’t take responsibility for. If there were any damages, I would be charged to repair them. I think that If the dentist knows what he or she is doing, it shouldn’t be a problem, otherwise why advertise the reshaping of severe overlaps when there is so much risk involved. What do you think? Reshaping and crowns seem the best and cheapest option.

How Much Would It Cost to Have My Tooth Evened Out?

April 28th, 2015
Q.

Hello. I have one uneven tooth in my mouth and I would like to know how much will it will cost to get it shaped up to look like the rest? It is just one long tooth in the front, the rest of my teeth are just fine. I just want that big tooth where you have the two big teeth in the front, but the one to the right is a tad longer then the others. I just need that to be shaped up and even like the rest of them. I would like to know the cost?

How Much Would a Gold Tooth Cost?

April 28th, 2015
Q.

Hi. I’m on benefits and I would like a gold tooth on my front tooth. I would like an estimate of how much it will cost me, and I have got another problem as 1 of my teeth is pressed back, so I would like that covered with a gold tooth. So how will the procedure go, will I have to get that tooth pushed forward or will you be able to fit a gold cap in the gap? Please get back to me as I am in need ASAP. If it is not a gold tooth I wouldn’t mind a silver tooth but please get back to me. Thanks.

How Can I Sort Out the Surface Scratch On My Tooth?

April 28th, 2015
Q.

Hi. I noticed a faint surface scratch on my front tooth. I’m panicking that it’s going to crack or something. Is this normal? It’s hardly visible and  it’s very faint. Could any toothpaste help or could it strengthen and disappear on it’s own? Also, someone told me that it could just be a natural line of the tooth. I’m very conscious of my teeth so hopefully I’m just worrying about nothing. I hope you can put my mind at rest. Thanks.

Does Composite Filling Loosen Your Teeth?

April 27th, 2015
Q.

Hi, I am 23 years old. My front teeth had this black/brownish stain on the joint between the two. So I consulted a doctor an she did a composite filling on my teeth. Now I feel like it will fall off at any moment, it feels like I’ve lost the strength of my teeth. So my question to you is this: Does composite filling loosen your teeth’s strength drastically? What are the disadvantages of having a composite filling? Thank you.

Do I Have a Cavity?

April 24th, 2015
Q.

Dear doctor,
I am experiencing some discomfort at the moment, probably the upper left 4 or 5 teeth, but I think is the premolar and it is sensitive to sweet things. Could it be a cavity or maybe too much hard brushing on that side, considering that I just chew from that side of the mouth?
I’m getting worried because on the right side a very deep cavity was not found in the past and I had to have a root canal treatment.
I m scheduled with a dentist but I just wanted to have some extra advice to be on the safe side…my OPG taken in December doesn’t show any abnormalities or caries.
Many thanks in advance, I hope you can help me.

Is My Dentist Giving Me the Right Advice?

April 24th, 2015
Q.

I am 48 years old and have been told by my dentist today that my front teeth have short roots and I would be in danger in maybe 5 years time of loosing my teeth. He is referring me to a specialist to see about augmenting the front teeth by adding bone cartilage. Can you clarify what he means? I really do not want to have implants as my front teeth are a lovely shape and I want to hold on to them for as long as I can. Also, I had a very deep filling today in my back wisdom tooth. The same dentist told me that it might not take and that I would have to have root canal treatment done if it continues to give me trouble. He also suggested that I have it removed if it does cause continual trouble, as it is an ‘8’ and wouldn’t be seen and its absence wouldn’t effect my jawline. What is your advice on this? Should I bother with root canal to ensure a strong jawline for future years, or just have it removed? It is very far back. Thanks a million.

Can the NHS Help Me With Funding for Braces?

April 23rd, 2015
Q.

Hi. I am 24 years old and my top teeth are a mess. They stick out and when I was younger I used to get bullied because of it. It’s made my life hell, I have tried speaking to my dentist they have referred me to different orthodontists and they want £1,900. There is no way can I afford that sort of money for braces, I’m a full time mum on income support, does the NHS not help because I am older? I am so self conscious I never take pictures with my kids because I do not smile, it really gets me down and I can’t get to communicate with other mums at my son’s nursery because I feel people stare at me.
