Q. hi i have a damaged Lateral Incisor i dameged it about 4 years ago. practically half the tooth was broken close to the gum now i have knocked that out and from what i can see half the tooth is broken off quite close to the gum what would be the best procedure to get it fixed. I am not in my home country so could you please tell me what is the best procedure so i know the dentist here is not going to screw it up. thank you,
A. It sounds as though you may need to have an elective
root canal treatment to allow a post crown to be made

Q. I am missing a tooth at the bottom near the front of my mouth. I think it is number 13. I am a soldier in the army and i am about to deploy to Iraq. What kind of temporary fix can a dentist do to fill this gap until i get back? It is so unbecoming.,
A. It should be possible for you to get a denture made, quite quickly which would fill the gap. Alternatively, it may be possible to have a bridge made. This would depend on the amount of time you have before your deployment, and would involve the preperation of the teeth either side of the gap at an intial appointment. This would then be followed a week to two weeks later by a fit appointment. I wish you well. Kindest Regards. Dr Kailesh Solanki

Q. i’m missing 1 of my froth teeth can lumineers and veneers help,
A. Unfortuantely, once you have lost a tooth the only way to replace the space is with either a denture, bridge or Implant. Lumineers and veneers are bonded onto existing teeth which would not work in your case.

Q. Dear sir, my question is i have gap between front teeth . sir wat treatment is there to remove gap,
A. Thanks for your question, you may wish to consider an aligner, such as the Inman Aligner, to close the gap between your teeth. The alternative to an aligner would be veneers, which can be used to improve the size shape and aesthetic appearnace of your teeth. Many Thanks. Dr Kailesh Solanki

Q. My partner has gaps between his four upper teeth, what would be the best procedure to close these gaps and what would give a good lifetime result?,
A. I have recently carried out such a treatment with veneers to solve such a problem. The difficulty can be to prevent the end result making the teeth look very wide. Careful assessment of the amount of space and the number of teeth required to be veneered is the critical issue. Please visit me at my practice to have a free cosmetic consultation

Q. Hi, I am currently almost finished having orthodontic treatment, my teeth are straight but I would like a wider smile.. showing more teeth.. the roof of my mouth is narrow..is it possible to still achieve this? My braces are supposed to be coming off in a month. Also.. as your a jaw expert, my jaw is really really clicky and doesnt seem to track up and down properly, also I have a habit of clicking it in and out on one side, if I dont it feels really tight, is this bad? Im worried about getting arthritis. I have had this since I was a child.. Im now 26. Thanks ever so much for your time.,
A. It is very difficult to give you any answers without seeing you in person. Widening your smile may be able to be done with braces and also porcelain veneers. I wouldn’t like to tell you what you would need to have done without seeing you and performing a few tests as i’d hate to give you incorrect information.I would be more than happy to see you regarding this matter.Justin Glaister

Q. My bottom row of teeth is almost perfectly straight, but on the the top row the canines (I think) are further forward than my other teeth. Also, due to an accident when I was 11 (I am now 23) two of my teeth are chipped and one of the front ones has the bottom section missing and is capped. As such, I don’t know if it would be worth having my teeth straightened if you could still see the caps, or what my other options would be? Please advise? Much appreciated.,
A. Thanks for your questions, it is still possible to have your teeth straightened, despite the presence of the crown. You seem reluctant however to make the repaired teeth more visible, if this is because the restorations do not appear natural, then you may wish to have these replaced after the completion of any Orthodontic treatment. If you would like to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact me again.Kindest regardsDr Kailesh Solanki

Q. I have recently recieved dentures to fill the gaps in missing teeth but these are causing problems. They are uncomfortable to the point of painful and impair my speech. Although I have most of my front teeth left it is hard to chew food properly. As I have colitus it puts my digestive system under more pressure to digest the semi-chewed food. Because I am unemployed I am wondering if it is possible to implants done on the nhs. I would be greatful for your reply.,
A. To be honest I have no idea whether you can get NHS implants. I would try calling any NHS practicce and asking them, hopefully they may be able to help you.Justin Glaister

Q. Hello I have spacious gaps between my upper teeth and also quite a big overbite. According to an orthodonist I recently saw, he said
invisalign may work for me, but I am border-line surgical in terms of my overbite. This is worrying to me as it seems it may not just be a cosmetic problem anymore, is there any way I can get this done on the NHS? If not, what options do I have?,
A. You should ask the orthodontist for a hospital referral to find out if there is a chance of getting things sorted on the NHS

Q. I had a veneer on my upper right1 that was chipped and i went to my dentist who said it should be replaced along with the upper left 1 to make it look ok. after 1 week both veneers fell of and again i went back to the dentists who prepared the teeth again and fitted new veneers. I have just come back from a restaurant where the upper right 1 has broken off, with only three millimeters of the original tooth remaining….please help what are my options and why do they keep falling off???,
A. This must be very worrying for you. You may have a bite issue and it is likely that your teeth may have been weak prior to veneering ( may be some old fillings were already there). It is likely that crowns will be a good solution

Q. Hello Dr Glaister, I have had the same bridge on my bottom front teeth for about 15 years (It’s a Maryland bridge). When I had it done it was the best thing ever and improved my confidence but now it’s really looking dated and too obvious. What I was wondering is, do you have to change a bridge after a few years? Also I would like to have this bridge removed and placed with some thing more up to date because I know cosmetic dentistry has come a long way in the last 15 years! Would
dental implants be best? What would you suggest? This has bothered me for many years but I have done nothing about it but this summer I have my sisters wedding coming up and would really like to do something finally.,
A. Bridges have improved alot in the last 15 years. If that is how long it’s been since you’ve had the bridge placed then it is very normal to need to replace them after 10 -15 years. Implants are a newer option and they do act more like a natural tooth, the only problem there is that in order to have implants placed you do require a good amount of bone in that area. You will need a consultation regarding this.Justin Glaister

Q. hiya im sam im 22 male and i am basically writing to ask for proffesional advise i recently just quit smoking about 7 months ago and my bottom teeth 2 of them are yellow behind them! and 2 weeks ago wen i was eating an apple a little bit of it cam of and left a little hole where the yellow was, whats the best thing to do i would be great if you could write back and imform me thanks,
A. Hi Thanks for your questions and congratulations on giving up smoking. I would always recommend that you attend your dental professional to assess the damage when a fracture occurs. I would suspect that you may just need a filling in the tooth. I would also recommend that you visit the hygienist on a regular basis, to maintain your oral health. They may also be able to offer a stain removal service such as prophyflex which can remove residual staining left by smoking, and staining foods and drinks. If you still want your teeth lighten after this, you may wish to consider
teeth whitening. The prices for this wil vary between systems and practices, but we currently have Zoom on offer at £250. Please do not hesitate to contact me again if you require any further information, or if you would like to arrange a free consultation.Kindest RegardsDr Kailesh Solanki
