my upper teeth are worn and discoloured

Q. I have rather worn upper teeth that are also slightly discoloured, what procedures do you recommend so that i can get the best look?

A. If you are interested in improving the colour of your teeth you can have them whitened. This can make things look slightly better and is a very simple form of treatment. It can be done in the surgery and this procedure takes an hour. There is also a home whitening kit that you can use at home for a couple of weeks.
You mentioned that you have wear on your teeth. This is a slightly more serious problem that should be addressed.

The wear on your teeth is a functional problem and can result in broken teeth, jaw joint problems, it can cause bone loss and gum problems. Once the enamel has been lost from the edge of the teeth, dentine is exposed. This wears down nine times faster than enamel. This means that the wear rate will increase and the teeth will deteriorate faster.

Your wear problem can be addressed and this will give you functional benefits as well as making your teeth look better. It can be done with veneers and crowns. These are porcelain shells that are made individually to fit you. They look extremely natural and can improve the appearance of the lower third of your face.

If you are within travelling distance of my practice I would be happy to see you for a consultation, the practice phone number is 01296 624163. If not then you need to find a restorative and cosmetic dentist. He/she should have a knowledge of occlusion which is the science and study of the how the teeth bite together and function. This is crucial for your treatment to be successful. Ask to look at a portfolio of previous cases so that you can check that the dentist carries out the procedures on a regular basis.
I hope this helps,
Kind regards,
