My tooth has developed two cracks, will I have to have it removed?

Q.
Hi Mark,
One of my back teeth which has had a filling for years has now developed 2 cracks on the inside about 3mm apart. The cracks run vertically from the end of the tooth to 3/4 up the tooth towards the gum line. I can move this piece of tooth if i push it hard with my tongue although it is still held fairly ridgedly in place. If this piece were to fall out looking at the inside of the tooth i would be left iwth 2 pieces of the side wall of the tooth left and right with with a visible filling in the middle. My friend says i will be able to use the tooth like this because if i visited a dentist he would extract it straight away. Would this be the case.

Not necessarily. It really depends on how much damage has occurred. As the symptoms you descride are mild and the tooth appears to be quite stable then it’s likely it could be repaired

I would be able to give you a much more accurate assessment only after we could have the opportunity to examine you and your teeth and gums properly so please try to come to see myself , or another experienced cosmetic dentist as soon as you can

Kind regards

Mark
