My Teeth Relapsed When I Caught Chicken Pox And I Couldn’t Wear My Retainer. Could I Get Braces Again?

Q.
Hello Dr. Hughes. I’m 15 and I had braces when I was around 13. My story is, my teeth are wonky because I didn’t wear my retainer. However my orthodontist knows I didn’t wear them because I caught chicken pox and it spread into my mouth so I couldn’t wear my retainer. I couldn’t wear them for around 4-5 week because it was to painful. Now my teeth are moving back and they hurt and feel really uncomfortable in my mouth. I was wondering if I could have braces again or even another retainer fitted to fix my problem, would I be able to get this on my NHS? Thank you.

Hello, thank you for getting in touch. Yes you can of course have further treatment. Ask your NHS dentist if it is possible to have this treatment again. If you explain to your orthodontist they may be able to help you. Painkillers should be taken if you experience this pain again. I hope this helps and you manage to achieve a straighter smile. Kind regards, Mark.
