my teeth become very worn away and sensitive due to acid erosion please advice

Q. Hi,I have become increasingly worried about my teeth over the past few years, as they have become very worn away and sensitive due to what I have been told is Acid Erosion. Not only have they become transparent at the ends, and seem to be getting progressively worse, they are also starting to chip and I have cracks down the middle of my incisors. I have been to two different dentists, and they have both told me that if anything my teeth are so good that they are too long and are just wearing because of this. I was also told that I grind my teeth in my sleep and I should wear a night guard.. I was wondering if it is possible to use bleaching trays as a form of guard that I recently used, instead of seperately buyin a night guard. I’m very dissatisfied with the dentists I’ve seen as they seem to be baffled as to why my teeth are so transparent at the ends, and don’t think it’s my diet as I don’t eat citrus fruits etc that claim to cause this acid erosion. I do use a special toothpaste called ‘Sensodyne Pronamel’ to help strenghten the remaining enamel and prevent further damage but, I really don’t think it has made any difference… I have always had really good teeth but, these problems are really starting to depress me and everyone who is speaking to me in person are starting to notice these problems especially the acid erosion. Please write back to me, as from what I have read on this site, you are a very good dental surgeon. Regards

A. Hi, many thanks for your email. if you do grind your teeth in your sleep then this is what will be causing the wear on your teeth and the see through nature on the tips. it may not be due to acid erosion. however it is difficult to say without weeing your teeth. you could wear your whitening tray as a temporary night guard, but to have a specific hard splint made to help the grinding at night would be a better alternative. if you email back with your location i will recommend a dentist who could help you.

I would speak to your dentist for advise as toothpaste may not be the answer to resolve this, It could be caused by your diet.
